  • Management of measurement protocols in production process control

    Production process quality control is based on statistical evaluation and proper presentation of measurement results. Therefore, it is very important to choose proper characteristic product ... quantities to be measured and to apply measurements of proper quality. Measurement quality depends on measurement device selection, traceability, measurement conditions, measurement procedure and quality of measurement protocol, which presents the measurement results and uncertainty of measurement. The uncertainty of measurement quantifies possible dispersion of a measurement, which directly influences the calculated production process dispersion (e.g. standard deviation). This is the main reason for including demands regarding measuring uncertainty in modern quality management standards like ISO TS 16949. The article is presenting basic metrological backgrounds for managing measurement protocols, which serve as inputs for statistical process control as well as for product acceptance criteria in national and international trade. Special attention is paid to uncertainty of measurement that is quantifying quality of measurement results and is of great importance for defining quality acceptance criteria. A brief background for involving internationally harmonised uncertainty evaluation procedure is also given in the article.
