It is well-known that there is a bilingual education in the Pomurje region in Slovenia since 1959. The most striking feature of the educational model is that both the Slovene language, as the ...official language, as well as the Hungarian language, having the status of a regionally official language, are languages taught and languages of teaching. Learning both languages and learning in both languages is compulsory for both communities - the minority and the majority. The lecture shows innovations launched as experiments of the project E-competences of teachers of schools in the Pomurje region. It has the intention to show what the external differentiation of the second language means in secondary schools: the group is organized for Slovenian pupils arriving from outside the bilingual region and not knowing Hungarian, who are theoretically learning Hungarian as a foreign language - in an area where the Hungarian language as a foreign language (theoretically and legally) cannot exist - to successfully participate in bilingual education. On the other hand the lecture is about the Hungarian school in Ljubljana, where pupils of the Slovene Hungarian migrant community learn the language of their parents and highlighting the problems of teaching Hungarian as the heritage language.
