This paper examines the concept of longing in Nick Cave’s love songs. The notion of longing is an ambiguous term, and as such is presented here through perspectives of psychology, psychoanalysis and ...popular musicology, more precisely through sociology of music and cultural studies. Starting point of this analysis is Nick Cave’s lecture on love songs where he points out two related terms regarding the feeling of longing, Saudade and Duende, as words that portray the feeling of longing and sadness that exist in certain works of art. Apart from them, the German word Sehnsucht, defined as life longing, is also presented as a synonym for sadness. No life is possible without life that we do not live, as much as no profound experience of love is possible without pain and beauty – that is the main thesis of this paper that includes dialectics of longing.
The aim of this study was to examine whether there is a difference in the dimensions of attachment and difference in emotional regulation between the group of female patients suffering from bulimia ...nervosa (BN) and the control group. We also wanted to examine whether emotional regulation has a mediating role in the relationship between dimensions of attachment and severity of BN symptoms.
The study included a total of 100 female participants from 15 to 25 years of age (M=20.40, SD=3.26). The clinical group consisted of 50 patients suffering from BN, and the control group consisted of 50 healthy female subjects.
Female patients suffering from BN achieved higher scores in the dimensions of anxiety (t
=-5.12, p=0.00) and avoidance (t
=-4.30, p=0.00). Dimension of attachment related anxiety (β=0.44, p=0.00) proved to be a statistically significant predictor of BN symptoms. Subjects of the clinical group also achieved significantly higher (t
=7.41, p=0.00) emotional dysregulation than participants of the control group. We also found that the mediation effect of emotional regulation on the association between anxiety and BN symptoms was statistically significant (z'=4.43, p=0.00).
Patients suffering from BN showed significantly higher levels of attachment related anxiety and avoidance as well as significantly higher level of difficulties in emotional regulation than healthy controls. Attachment anxiety proved to be a significant predictor of symptoms BN, suggesting that the attachment related anxiety is stronger correlate of BN symptoms than avoidance, and may represent a risk factor for more severe BN symptoms. It was also found that the relationship between attachment related anxiety and BN symptoms were mediated by emotional regulation.

This paper aims to point out the field within the psychotherapy process that enables selfknowledge, and that is the field where “I and You” meet. A true encounter is what enables growth and a therapeutic effect on the client and the psychotherapist. One of the key tasks of the psychotherapy process is to stimulate and (re)discover vital energy in the client, which is called Eros. Eros thus becomes a place of vitality, creativity, and transformation, and ultimately a path to self-realization. Self-awareness and therapeutic growth in psychodrama are achieved fundamentally through the technique of “role reversal” which allows people to be seen from the perspective of another, which enriches and expands their experience of themselves and opens the way to change. Such a privileged position, which is made possible by a psychodramatic action of role reversal, is an important effect by which a person has the opportunity to interpret “oneself to oneself” and thereby overcome the limitations of the traditional subject-object dichotomy.
This paper focuses on an underresearched topic of the notion of identity and its relation to social order in self-help books. First, the theoretical backgrounds assumed to have influenced the notion ...of identity in self-help books were analysed. Identity as represented in self-help books can be changed, improved, discovered, strengthened and achieved. It is deficient, and self-help books attempt to compensate for that lack through the processes of self-realisation referred to as “tools for achieving happiness”. Along with the relationship between self-help books and identity at the individual level, another specific topic of the paper is the relation of identity in self-help book to society and social order. Sociological and cultural-critical approach was used to analyse possible contribution that self-help books might make to social change. More specifically, it was analysed whether identity advocated in self-help books can empower individuals for active social participation. Two dominant perspectives in cultural, critical and sociological analyses of self-help books were used to that aim. One claims that striving for individual happiness promoted in self-help books is only maintaining the status quo, while the other one suggests that self-help books can act as catalysts of social change. That is explained by the notion that change at the individual level leads to change in the broader social space. The authors concluded that identities are constantly in the process of transformation, which allows a simultaneous existence of subordination to social order and resistance to it.
This paper discusses the contribution made by psychodrama role theory to sociology. It is well known that role theory was founded and disseminated in sociology, and specifi cally in social ...psychology; our goal therefore is to indicate the ways in which psychodrama can act as a bridge between sociology and psychology. J. L. Moreno, as the founder of psychodrama, strongly believed that psychodrama was more inclusive than sociology, particularly since it has practical and therapeutic aspects of role playing, and role reversal especially. Our idea is to emphasize and demonstrate how role reversal, role development, role analysis and the theatrical background of psychodrama are practical elements that result in therapeutic eff ects. Along with the theoretical elaborations of these aspects and contributions, we use examples from our ongoing weekly psychodrama group, which we have been leading as directors / co-therapists since 2014.
This paper analyses the concept of self-help as a cultural phenomenon. It is studied through self-help books as texts that give advices for almost every aspects of life. Considering there is a ...hiperproduction and proliferation of the self-help discourse, not just in literature but also through institutions, this paper analyses conditions that enabled birth and development of such a specific outlook on life. This paper demonstrates the ways in which the tradition of American Protestantism from the late 15th and in the 16th and 17th centuries laid the foundations of the culture of self-help. It examines the extent to which work, persistence and dedication to God corresponded to the impending ethics of self-reflection and perseverance. Examples show ways in which the institutionalization of psychological discourse and cultural practices in the 20th century participated in the promotion of popular psychology in everyday life which resulted in the establishment of psychotherapeutic discourse. However, there is a paradoxical situation - on the one hand such texts are sold in very large numbers of copies, while on the other hand there is no expert analysis of the ways in which self-help books find their place in society by shaping the perception of reality. Therefore, this paper aims to draw attention to this ubiquitous cultural phenomenon.
