Heavy strange objects (hyperons) can provide essential signatures of the excited and compressed baryonic matter. At NICA, it is planned to study hyperons both in the collider mode (MPD detector) and ...the fixed-target one (BM@N setup). Measurements of strange hyperon polarization can give additional information on the strong interaction mechanisms. In heavy-ion collisions, such measurements are even more valuable since the polarization is expected to be sensitive to characteristics of the QCD medium (vorticity, hydrodynamic helicity) and to QCD anomalous transport. In this analysis, the possibility to measure at BM@N the polarization of the lightest strange hyperon Λ is studied in Monte Carlo event samples of Au + Au collisions produced with the DCM-QGSM generator. It is shown that the detector will allow to measure polarization with a precision required to check the model predictions.
Mutations in CRYAA, which encodes the alpha-crystallin protein, are associated with a spectrum of congenital cataract-microcornea syndromes. In this study, we performed clinical examination and ...subsequent genetic analysis in two unrelated sporadic cases of different geographical origins presenting with a complex phenotype of ocular malformation. Both cases manifested bilateral microphthalmia and severe anterior segment dysgenesis, primarily characterized by congenital aphakia, microcornea, and iris hypoplasia/aniridia. NGS-based analysis revealed two novel single nucleotide variants occurring de novo and affecting the translation termination codon of the CRYAA gene, c.520T > C and c.521A > C. Both variants are predicted to elongate the C-terminal protein domain by one-third of the original length. Our report not only expands the mutational spectrum of CRYAA but also identifies the genetic cause of the unusual ocular phenotype described in this report.

Strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions is one of the main goals of the scientific program at the NICA accelerator complex. The MPD detector is designed to study the properties of strongly ...interacting matter at extreme baryon densities. In this article, the MPD performance to measure the excitation function of the strangeness to entropy ratio in central Au + Au collisions is reported. The investigation has been performed at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics, JINR.
Strangeness and hypernuclei production in heavy-ion collisions is presently under active experimental and theoretical investigation and is of particular interest for the experiments at the new ...acceleration complex NICA (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility) which is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). We study the production of (hyper)nuclei in the NICA energy range using a novel n-body dynamical transport approach called Parton-Hadron-Quantum-Molecular Dynamics (PHQMD).
Despite the achieved success in the treatment of neonatal hydrocephalus, the task of restoring circulation, outflow, and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) remains urgent. The aim of the study ...was to investigate the effectiveness of ventriculosubarachnoid drainage in compensating hydrocephalus without shunt implantation.Materials and methods. We collected and studied clinical material for the period from 2000 to 2018 according to the data of the Republic of Crimea. We identified groups of premature (n = 184) and full-term (n = 107) infants who underwent standard treatment with lumbar puncture, subgaleal drainage, and ventriculoperitoneal shunting (VPS). In case of ventricular occlusion in 143 premature and 46 full-term infants, at the initial stage of treatment, the option of coronary – lambdoid subarachnoid ventriculostomy (RF Patent No. 2715535) in combination with lumbar punctures was included. With progression of hydrocephalus, ventriculosubarachnoid stenting (RF Patent No. 2721455) with subgaleal drainage was considered as an option.Results. The inclusion of the proposed options made it possible to increase the rate of hydrocephalus compensation without VPS to 75.5% in premature infants and to 80.4% in full-term infants versus 28.3% and 20.6%, respectively, according to the standard protocol (p < 0.001). In other cases, the imbalance between CSF production and absorption persisted, which required integration of a stent with a peritoneal part of the shunt, without replacing the system.Conclusion. The obtained result allows to consider the inclusion of the proposed options in the modern treatment algorithm for neonatal hydrocephalus.
The vertex silicon detector is part of the NICA-MPD tracking system designed for efficient registration of short-lived products of nucleus–nucleus interactions. This paper presents the results of a ...computer simulation of the identification capability of the MPD tracking system which includes a Time-Projection Chamber (TPC) and a vertex detector based on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS’s) when reconstructing the decays of strange and charmed particles generated in central Au + Au collisions at

This study investigates the distribution of PAX6-associated congenital aniridia (AN) and WAGR syndrome across Russian Federation (RF) districts while characterizing PAX6 gene variants. We contribute ...novel PAX6 pathogenic variants and 11p13 chromosome region rearrangements to international databases based on a cohort of 379 AN patients (295 families, 295 probands) in Russia. We detail 100 newly characterized families (129 patients) recruited from clinical practice and specialized screening studies. Our methodology involves multiplex ligase-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) analysis of the 11p13 chromosome, PAX6 gene Sanger sequencing, and karyotype analysis. We report novel findings on PAX6 gene variations, including 67 intragenic PAX6 variants and 33 chromosome deletions in the 100 newly characterized families. Our expanded sample of 295 AN families with 379 patients reveals a consistent global PAX6 variant spectrum, including CNVs (copy number variants) of the 11p13 chromosome (31%), complex rearrangements (1.4%), nonsense (25%), frameshift (18%), and splicing variants (15%). No genetic cause of AN is defined in 10 patients. The distribution of patients across the Russian Federation varies, likely due to sample completeness. This study offers the first AN epidemiological data for the RF, providing a comprehensive PAX6 variants spectrum. Based on earlier assessment of AN prevalence in the RF (1:98,943) we have revealed unexamined patients ranging from 55% to 87%, that emphases the need for increased awareness and comprehensive diagnostics in AN patient care in Russia.
Creating digital twins of industrial equipment requires the development of adequate virtual models, and the calculation of their parameters is a complex scientific and practical problem. To configure ...and digitally commission automated drives, two-mass electromechanical system models are used. A promising area in which to implement such models is the development of digital shadows, namely drive position observers. Connecting virtual models for online data exchange predetermines the tightening of requirements for their parameter calculation accuracy. Therefore, developing accessible techniques for calculating electromechanical system coordinates is an urgent problem. These parameters are most accurately defined by experiments. The contribution of this paper is the proposition of a method for defining the two-mass system model parameters using the oscillograms obtained in the operating and emergency modes. The method is developed for the horizontal stand drives of a plate mill 5000 and is supported by numerical examples. The technique is universal and comprises calculating the rotating mass inertia torques, elastic stiffness and oscillation damping coefficients, and the time constants of the motor air gap torque control loop. The obtained results have been applied to the development of the elastic torque observer of the rolling stand’s electromechanical system. A satisfactory coordinate recovery accuracy has been approved for both open and closed angular gaps in mechanical joints. Recommendations are given for the use of the method in developing process parameter control algorithms based on automated drive position observers. This contributes to the development of the theory and practice of building digital control systems and the implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept in industrial companies.
