To improve our local data and demographics of thyroid neoplasm in Makkah region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and provide some basic statistics for future studies in our local community. Methods: A ...record based retrospective epidemiological study was conducted and included 314 thyroid disease patients who were presented to our centers at Makkah region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between December 2009 and December 2019. Results: A descriptive statistical analysis was carried out. The average age was 42.77 years, with a female-to-male ratio of 3:1, and most of the patients were Saudi (77%). Fifty-seven percent of cases were benign, while in malignant cases, 33.4% were papillary thyroid carcinoma. The mean follow-up time was 15.44 months, with excellent compliance in 39.4% of the patients. Conclusion: Thyroid tumors have a leading incidence in head and neck tumors in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, mandating further studies to determine the causes and distribution in other regions of the country.
To evaluate the accuracy and e cacy of ne-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in diagnosing thyroid nodules, correlating it with the histopathological findings.
A retrospective evaluation of 314 ...patients was undertaken at a tertiary referral center of King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC), Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, between 2010-2019. Patients who presented with thyroid swellings underwent ultrasonography and FNAC. If indicated, surgery was performed. The FNAC findings were compared to the final histopathological reports.
The findings for FNAC from our data set of 314 patients showed a sensitivity value of 79.8%, specificity of 82.1%, accuracy of 74.8%, positive predictive value of 74.8%, and negative predictive value of 85.9%. Conclusion: Our study showed that FNAC has high sensitivity and speci city in the initial evaluation of patients with thyroid nodules. When guided by ultrasonography, the accuracy can be markedly improved. Molecular markers once widely available can improve the diagnostic power of FNAC to be no less than the histopathologic evaluation of thyroid tissue.

Essential thrombocythemia (ET) is a malignant hematological disease that has the ability to progress to acute leukemia or transform into other myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The coexistence of ...ET and other MPNs with pituitary adenoma (PA) is rare. There are no reports of cases of secretory PA of prolactin hormone in combination with ET. This case was reported in a young woman from Saudi Arabia who had the secretory PA present in combination with ET. The 20-year-old patient was treated for a micro-PA with hyperprolactinemia. The patient was referred to the hematological service for thrombocytosis. There was no history of thrombosis, cardiovascular risk factors, or constitutional symptoms. Laboratory tests showed that platelet levels consistently lagged from 700 × 103/µL to 1000 × 103/µL for 1 year. Hemoglobin 13 g/dL, white blood cells (WBCs) 6 × 103/µL, and normal WBC differential. The peripheral blood smear was inconclusive. A peripheral blood sample was sent for the cytogenetic study of myeloproliferative diseases, which came to be positive for c.1849G>T p.(V617F) mutation in the EXON 14 Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) gene. The patient was diagnosed with a MPN, ET with positive exon 14 JAK2, at low-risk category. Evidence suggests that MPNs in combination with endocrinological diseases are rare. However, there is a high incidence of MPN and unrelated tumors such as PA. Further research is recommended to thoroughly investigate endocrine tumors and look beyond secondary thrombocytosis that leads to thrombocythemia as in ET.
The study aimed to highlight the temporal and spatial change of juvenile crimes in the Taif Governorate during the period from 2015-2020. To achieve its objectives, the study relied on the data ...of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development– Juvenile Welfare Department 2020. The study adopted the inductive-inferential approach as a methodological framework, using statistical methods and modern techniques in graphs and cartography. The study found that the crimes decreased very sharply from 33.3% to 2.8%, and the results showed that the two crimes of self and money were at the top of the list of juvenile crimes. As for the nationalities of the perpetrators of these crimes, except for Saudis, 17 nationalities participated in them, as the Yemeni community formed the highest percentage (22%), followed by Burmese nationality (16%) of the total nationalities. In terms of the spatial distribution of the crime, Al- Hawiyah and Al- Faisaliyah police stations occupied the largest percentage among the police departments by about (43%) for both of them. Based on the results, the study recommends conducting more juvenile crime studies, focusing on self and money crimes.
