Purpose:
Injury to the distal triceps brachii tendon is rare. Imaging radiographs are used to confirm the findings of physical examination, classify the extent of injury, and guide treatment. ...Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered the gold standard of diagnostic imaging. However, no previous study has reported on the accuracy of differentiation between partial- and full-thickness triceps tendon tears. Our study’s aim was to define the accuracy of MRI in differentiating partial- from full-thickness tear of the distal triceps tendon. We hypothesized that MRI has low accuracy in differentiating partial- from full-thickness tears.
Methods:
A total of eight patients with nine triceps tendon tears underwent surgical repair from 2011 to 2015. MRI of the elbows were retrospectively reviewed for the presence and type of tear, tendon involvement, and location of the tear, and later correlated with surgical findings.
Results:
Of the three surgically confirmed complete tears, MRI correctly reported a complete tear in all patients. Of the six partial tears confirmed at surgery, MRI correctly identified four tears. In two cases, MRI described a complete tear, but only a partial tear was noted at surgery.
Conclusion:
False-positive MRI assessment of distal triceps injury is not rare. Surgeons should rely on clinical examination in assessing distal triceps tendon injury, with imaging studies providing an adjunctive role in the diagnosis and decision-making.

This study aimed to clarify the possible association of initial 24 hours' fluid balance with poor outcomes in pediatric patients with sepsis.
Retrospective data analysis included pediatric patients admitted with suspected or proven sepsis or septic shock to pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Saudi Arabia.
The study included 47 patients; 13 (28%) died, and mortality rate was significant in children with neurologic failure (P < 0.02), mechanical ventilation within 24 hours of admission (P < 0.03), leukopenia (P < 0.02), abnormal international normalized ratio (P < 0.02), initial blood lactate levels higher than 5 mmol/L (P < 0.02), or positive fluid balance at 24 hours of admission to the PICU (P < 0.001).
Among children with sepsis and/or septic shock, there is significant association between mortality and initial high blood lactate levels and positive fluid balance at 24 hours from admission to the PICU.

The objective of this study was to explore the predictors of survival and to compare the risk of mortality among colorectal cancer patients treated with different therapeutic modalities.
The study utilized data from the electronic colorectal cancer registry of a university-affiliated tertiary care hospital. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to estimate the survival rates over 36 months of follow-up across rectal and colon cancer patients as well as different sociodemographic and medical characteristics. Bivariate and multiple Cox proportional-hazards regressions were conducted to estimate the risk of mortality among rectal and colon cancer patients undergoing different treatments.
The number of patients in the registry who were followed up for 36 months was 143 patients. The majority of patients had colon cancer (74.13%). Rectal cancer patients had generally better survival estimates compared to their colon cancer counterparts. Colon cancer patients treated with chemotherapy had a significantly lower risk of mortality controlling for the use of surgery, radiotherapy, and other variables including age, gender, stage of cancer, and family history of colorectal cancer (HR=0.33;
=0.03). Additionally, colon cancer patients with a family history of colorectal cancer had significantly higher risk of mortality (HR=3.40;
=0.02).
The findings of this study highlight the value of chemotherapy in managing colon cancer patients.

Background
Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common life-threatening condition with non-specific clinical presentations. The diagnosis of PE depends highly on imaging studies, which may also provide ...prognostic information. This study aimed to describe the clinical and imaging profiles of patients with PE, emphasizing the differences between central and peripheral PE.
Methods
After ethics review board approval, this retrospective observational study examined the non-negative results in adult patients who underwent computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CT-PA) at our hospital between May 2016 and December 2019. Demographic and clinical information and imaging findings were collected from the electronic medical records.
Results
The study included 85 cases that were identified after re-interpreting the 103 non-negative CT-PA scans. Six cases were excluded for incomplete data and 12 cases were false-positive. Central PE was found in 63.5% of the cases. Obesity was the most common risk factor seen in 37.6% of the cases. Furthermore, 9.4% of the patients had sickle cell disease, which tended to be associated with peripheral PE. There was no difference between the peripheral and central PE in most clinical and imaging parameters evaluated (
P
> 0.05). However, patients with isolated subsegmental PE were more likely to develop hemoptysis (
P
= 0.04).
Conclusion
This study suggests that patients with obesity and sickle cell disease constitute an important proportion of all PE cases. Furthermore, the clinical and imaging profiles in patients with peripheral PE are similar to those in patients with central PE. Future research should focus on the clinical value of peripheral PE in patients with sickle cell disease.
Aims and Objectives: Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is an umbrella term for a number of conditions in the area of the joint, temple, and masticatory system. Many of those with TMD also suffer ...from headaches and anxiety. The aims and objectives of this study were to determine if there exists an association between the Diagnostic Criteria of TMD (DC/TMD) symptom questionnaire and report of headaches as well as stress. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was implemented via the use of the DC/TMD symptom questionnaire and the perceived stress scale (PSS). This was distributed conveniently among dental students in a multi-dental school setting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and was completed by 152 dental students. Odds ratios, Chi-square, and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals are reported. Statistical significance was set at P ≤ 0.05. Results: Those who ticked yes for pain on the TMD pain screener for pain with chewing hard or tough food, pain on mouth opening and lateral excursion, and pain with jaw habits as parafunction were at an odds risk from twice to thrice as likely to experience headaches. Similarly, those with poor coping skills on the PSS were more likely to have headaches (P = 0.002). Likewise, positive answers on the screener and symptom questionnaire were relevant with higher stress scores on the PSS. Conclusion: This study clarifies and reiterates the intertwined power of both stress and headaches; the former being a role player in TMD progression and the latter its product. TMD is unfortunately on the rise; it should not be brushed off as a nuisance. A multidisciplinary approach in diagnosis and treatment of both TMD and headaches by a team of orofacial pain specialist, neurologist, psychiatrist and/or psychologist, and physical therapists to untangle the deceiving presentation of both conditions would not only provide a more favorable prognosis but also improve cost and time expenditures.
