We propose a two-level integrated criterion for the rational choice of polymeric composite materials (PCM) intended for application in the structures of civil aircrafts. The components of this ...integrated criterion are analyzed for all stages of the life cycle of aircrafts. The entire complex of informative data required for the choice of a certain kind of PCM is also described.
For a jet located near the wing, instability waves present in jet mixing layer scatter on the wing trailing edge, leading to additional noise generation. In this article, the possibility of reducing ...this noise by active cancellation of natural instability waves has been experimentally studied. The active control system consists of near-field microphones from which the feedback signal is taken, a data processing module for signal filtering, and a high-frequency dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator. Decrease in pressure perturbations in the near field of a turbulent jet associated with axisymmetric instability waves in a narrow frequency band was demonstrated. It was shown that this reduction leads to a corresponding noise decrease in the far field.
•The largest Russian cohort of patients with mtDNA maintenance disorders was analysed.•Some peculiar features of the mutational spectra for the TWNK and the DGUOK genes were found.•High frequency of ...c.2243G > C mutation in the POLG gene was established.
Currently, pathogenic variants in more than 25 nuclear genes, involved in mtDNA maintenance, are associated with human disorders. mtDNA maintenance disorders manifest with a wide range of phenotypes, from severe infantile-onset forms of myocerebrohepatopathy to late-onset forms of myopathies, chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia, and parkinsonism.
This study represents the results of molecular genetic analysis and phenotypes of 102 probands with mtDNA maintenance disorders. So far, this is the largest Russian cohort for this group of diseases. Mutations were identified in 10 mtDNA maintenance genes: POLG (n = 59), DGUOK (n = 14), TWNK (n = 14), TK2 (n = 8), MPV17 (n = 2), OPA3 (n = 1), FBXL4 (n = 1), RRM2B (n = 1), SUCLG1 (n = 1) and TYMP (n = 1). We review a mutation spectrum for the DGUOK and TWNK genes, that can be specific for the Russian population. In 34 patients we measured the blood mtDNA copy number and showed its significant reduction. Novel variants were found in 41 cases, which significantly expands the mutational landscape of mtDNA maintenance disorders.

Corona discharge over a surface of alcohol, water, and kerosene with aluminum powder addition is applied to realize and visualize a number of electrohydrodynamic phenomena at the interaction of the ...discharge with a surface of the liquid. Thin aluminum powder film allows to visualize funnels and motion in them appearing under an ion wind impact.
α7-Type nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR) promotes the growth and metastasis of solid tumors. Secreted Ly6/uPAR-Related Protein 1 (SLURP-1) is a specific negative modulator of α7-nAChR ...produced by epithelial cells. Here, we investigated mechanisms of antiproliferative activity of recombinant SLURP-1 in epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells and activity of SLURP-1 and synthetic 21 a.a. peptide mimicking its loop I (Oncotag) in a xenograft mice model of epidermoid carcinoma. SLURP-1 inhibited the mitogenic pathways and transcription factors in A431 cells, and its antiproliferative activity depended on α7-nAChR. Intravenous treatment of mice with SLURP-1 or Oncotag for 10 days suppressed the tumor growth and metastasis and induced sustained changes in gene and microRNA expression in the tumors. Both SLURP-1 and Oncotag demonstrated no acute toxicity. Surprisingly, Oncotag led to a longer suppression of pro-oncogenic signaling and downregulated expression of pro-oncogenic miR-221 and upregulated expression of KLF4 protein responsible for control of cell differentiation. Affinity purification revealed SLURP-1 interactions with both α7-nAChR and EGFR and selective Oncotag interaction with α7-nAChR. Thus, the selective inhibition of α7-nAChRs by drugs based on Oncotag may be a promising strategy for cancer therapy.
The main chemical reactions that lead to formation of the nonequilibrium two-temperature plasma and highly excited Rydberg complexes are considered. A special attention is given to l-mixing reaction ...responsible for the formation of quantum resonance properties for radio wave propagation medium. A detailed analysis of the influence of Rydberg states to the behavior of GPS signals in D and E layers of the ionosphere is presented. It is shown that the transition frequencies between the excited states of orbitally degenerate Rydberg complex are resonant with respect to the carrier frequencies of GPS. That is why these states are the main cause of the GPS signal distortion. The mechanism of GPS signal delay in D and E layers is also discussed.

Negative corona multielectrode discharge over a surface of alcohol is applied to realize a number of electrohydrodynamic phenomena at the interaction of the discharge with a surface of the liquid ...(alcohol). Funnels and liquid columns were realized in the case of two and four upper electrodes. Columns reveal realization of an instability of a surface of a liquid.
The paper presents a block diagram that shows the benefits of protective-coating thermal spraying methods and the main factors that have an effect on the coating structure and properties. The authors ...put forward a procedure for preliminary prioritizing (in terms of effectiveness) of concrete coatings and the corresponding thermal spraying method. The influence of machining on the performance of coated parts is taken into account. The criterion-based assessment of performance improvement for aircraft structural parts with thermal spray coatings is proposed to be implemented within the framework of a conceptual approach that involves the use of an integral effectiveness criterion including single, group, and complex components.
Program development and computing for off-line data analysis of the multi purposes detector (MPD) experiment at NICA collider are considered. Detailed detector simulation of the MPD and event ...generation with Monte Carlo methods are very important in the experimental analysis for the determination of the detector acceptance and resolution, and to distinguish background event of known processes from new physics. Support of the interactive graphical presentation of simulated and experimental data at all levels, from the event display are also shown.
Thermally stimulated processes in mixtures of boric acid (BA) with boron nitride (BN) and aluminum that underwent the plastic deformation under a pressure of 0.5–4.0 GPa in an anvil-type ...high-pressure apparatus were studied with differential-scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and mass spectrometry. Water releases in initial BA within 20–200°C, which leads to an endothermic effect. The weight loss associated with release of water in the deformed BA–BN mixture proceeded within 20–200 and 250–450°С according to mass spectrometric data. The enthalpy of water release endoprocess within 200–200°С decreased with an increase in an amount of BN in mixtures and with an increase in deformation pressure, and it remained constant within 250–450°С. There were endopeaks on the thermogram of the BA–Al starting mixture due to the release of water and an endopeak of aluminum melting. The thermograms of the deformed mixtures showed an exopeak of aluminum melting and an exopeak within 200–550°C.
