Teaching approach applied by mathematics teacher can affect students' mathematical connection ability (MCA). The fact shows that there are still many teachers using conventional learning, causing ...passive students and low MCA among students. The purpose of this study was to describe the effectiveness of applying a collaborative realistic mathematics education (RME) approach using the classroom and the outdoor environment to improve students' MCA on the topic of similar triangles. This quasi-experimental research with a qualitative descriptive approach took the subject of ninth-grade students at a public junior high school in Jember, Indonesia. Data were collected using observation sheets, questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The data were analyzed using the effectiveness test (N-gain score). The results showed that the application of collaborative RME using the indoor and outdoor classrooms made students more active in physical, social, and mental activities. This learning is effective in improving students' MCA. The average score of 57.47 in the pre-test increased to 93.88 in the post-test, and the N-gain score was 0.86. Mathematics teachers are advised to apply this learning approach, not only on the topic of similarity triangles, but also on other suitable topics.
Kemampuan berpikir kritis dan Adversity Quotient (AQ) berperan penting dalam proses menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMA ...berdasarkan Adversity Quotient (AQ) pada materi sistem persamaan linear tiga variable (SPLTV). Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa angket ARP, soal tes, dan pedoman wawancara. Angket ARP diberikan kepada tiga kelas di sebuah SMA Negeri di Jember, Indonesia. Dari 3 kelas tersebut dipilih 7 subjek penelitian, di mana 3 siswa dengan kategori AQ tinggi, 3 siswa AQ sedang, dan 1 siswa AQ rendah. Kemudian, mereka diberikan masalah matematika topik SPLTV untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan kategori AQ tinggi cenderung mempunyai kemampuan berpikir kritis sangat tinggi dan tinggi. Siswa kategori AQ sedang cenderung mempunyai kemampuan berpikir kritis tinggi dan sedang, serta siswa kategori AQ rendah cenderung memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis yang sangat rendah. Saran untuk siswa perlu meningkatkan AQ agar mampu memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis yang optimal.
Problem-solving and mathematical connections are two important things in learning mathematics, namely as the goal of learning mathematics. However, it is unfortunate that the ability of students ...'mathematical connections is very low so that it impacts on students' failure in solving mathematical problems. The writing of this paper aims to discuss the understanding of mathematical problems, mathematical problem solving, mathematical connections, and how they play a role in solving mathematical problems. The method used in writing this paper is a method of studying literature, which is reinforced by the example of a qualitative research result. The research subjects consisted of two eighth grade students of junior high school in Jember East Java, Indonesia, in 2017/2018. The research data consisted of written test results solving the mathematical problem as well as interview results. Data analysis uses descriptive qualitative analysis. From the results of literature studies and research results provide a conclusion that mathematical connections play an important role, namely as a tool for students to use in solving mathematical problems where students who have good mathematical connection skills succeed in solving mathematical problems well, while poor mathematical connection skills cause students to fail in solving mathematical problems.
Abstrak. Kemampuan berpikir komputasi sangat penting untuk dikembangkan sehingga dapat menjadi salah satu bahan pertimbangan dalam merancang bahan pembelajaran. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian ...deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir komputasi siswa dan mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir komputasi 6 orang subjek penelitian. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 6 siswa terpilih dari 25 siswa kelas VIII G SMP Nuris Jember. Instrumen penelitan berupa soal tes pola bilangan, pedoman wawancara serta lembar validasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 25 siswa menunjukkan 16% siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan berpikir komputasi rendah, 64% siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan berpikir komputasi sedang, dan 20% yang mempunyai kemampuan berpikir komputasi tinggi. Siswa kelas VIII G rata-rata mampu memenuhi indikator kemampuan berpikir komputasi yaitu dekomposisi, berpikir algoritma, pengenalan pola. Namun, belum maksimal pada indikator abtraksi dan generalisasi. Siswa dengan kemampuan berpikir komputasi tinggi mampu memenuhi semua indikator berpikir komputasi yaitu dekomposisi, berpikir algoritma, pengenalan pola, dan abtraksi dan generalisasi. Walaupun, pada tahap abstraksi dan generalisasi masih terdapat kesalahan. Siswa dengan kemampuan berpikir komputasi sedang mampu memenuhi indikator dekomposisi, berpikir algoritma, dan pengenalan pola. Siswa dengan kemampuan berpikir komputasi rendah mampu memenuhi indikator dekomposisi dan berpikir algoritma, namun masih terdapat beberapa kesalahan.Kata Kunci: Berpikir Komputasi, Numerasi, Pola bilangan.
This study aims to describe the students’ mathematical connections in terms of the locus of control. The mathematical connection indicators in this study are writing down the mathematical concepts ...that underlie the answers, recognize the relationship of various mathematical ideas and mathematical topics that can be related to problems of everyday life, and understand how to solve mathematical ideas that are interrelated and underlie each other to obtain an integrated whole. Data collection methods in this study were questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The subjects of this study were six seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 7 Jember. The data analyzed by qualitative descriptive analysis. Based on the tests and interviews analysis, we known that students with internal locus of control could write mathematical concepts as a two variable linear equation system (TVLES). Students can connect TVLES material with problems, for example, represented the object in variables x and y. Students can also solved the problems related to TVLES material by using common examples, elimination and substitution methods. While the students’ with external locus of control also can write the mathematical concepts as a TVLES. But the students did not write in detail the relationship between TVLES material and the problem. Students can not solve problems by using TVLES solutions such as elimination and substitution, but students only use estimates in finding solutions.

The purpose of this research is to develop social arithmetic worksheet which is valid, practical and effective for grade seven in flipped classroom blended learning. The development model used in developing this studentworksheets is Four D Model. Methode for conducting this research is the observation method to see the effectiveness and practically, the test method and questionnaire method used to see the effectiveness of student worksheet. The results of this study are the results of the Student Worksheet validation score that meet the valid criteria (3.6 out of 4.00) based on the results of the validator. This Student Worksheet obtained a very good conclusion and was declared practical (94.73%) based on observations of teacher activities. Student Worksheets with the subject of social arithmetic and their used in the flipped classroom blended learning is categorized as effective based on student test results (100%), observations of student activities (96.88%) and student response results (100%).
Abstrak. Kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa merupakan kemampuan penting yang perlu dikuasai siswa dan menjadi salah satu standar dalam proses pembelajaran matematika di sekolah. Penelitian ini ...bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP dalam memecahkan masalah matematika nalaria berdasarkan jenis kelamin. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri di Jember yang berjumlah 29 siswa, 15 laki-laki dan 14 perempuan.Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes tertulis dan tes lisan. Triangulasi data menggunakan metode sumber, yaitu menguji kesesuaian antara data dari tes tertulis dan tes lisan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa laki-laki memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang hampir sama baiknya dengan siswa perempuan, dan termasuk dalam kategori Cukup. Perbedaannya adalah, siswa laki-laki memiliki kemampuan komunikasi tertulis lebih baik dari siswa perempuan, sedangkan siswa perempuan memiliki kemampuan komunikasi lisan lebih baik dari siswa laki-laki. Dari hasil ini direkomendasikan kepada guru matematika di sekolah untuk terus melatih siswa memecahkan masalah matematika nalaria agar kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dapat meningkat. The poor quality of mathematics learning process is a factor influence the low of mathematics students’ achievement, where there are still many teachers using a conventional teaching method at ...school. Mastering mathematics in elementary school is essential for students because it provides the foundation to learn the subject at the secondary school and university levels. This study aimed to examine ...the effect of implementing the Outdoor Learning in Mathematics (OLM) method to increase elementary students' motivation and learning achievements in geometry. This study was carried out at one of the public elementary schools in Jember, East Java, Indonesia using an experimental research design. Participants were 54 grade 4 students consisting of class 4A and 4B, equally divided into the experimental and control groups, respectively. The experimental group was treated in the form of learning geometry topics using the OLM method, while the control group used conventional methods. Data were collected using questionnaires, observation, and tests. The obtained data were analysed using non-parametric statistics with SPSS software. The results showed that students' opinions were very positive and supported the application of the OLM method in elementary schools. In addition, the OLM method triggers the students' motivation, as well as student learning achievements in geometry. Thus, it can be concluded that the Outdoor Learning method has a positive effect on elementary students' motivation and learning achievement in geometry. From these results, it is necessary to conduct further researches involving a large number of participants, develop teacher modules, and incorporate the OLM method into the mathematics curriculum. It is hoped that students will like mathematics more, so that their motivation and learning achievements can be improved.
This research was motivated by students' difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts in the material of quadrilaterals and triangles. Therefore, researchers developed a teaching module to ...make it easier for students to understand mathematical concepts that suit student characteristics based on the ethnomathematics of typical batik found in the school environment. The aim of this research is to develop ethnomathematics-based teaching modules that are valid, practical, and effective. This research uses the Plomp development model. The subjects used in the trial class were class VIII B SMPN 1 Arjasa, using the random sampling method. Based on the results of the research analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) The ethnomathematics-based teaching module developed is valid, practical, and effective; 2) The teaching module that has been developed can help students understand the concept of flat shapes with a student completion percentage of 83.33% as well as student responses who are interested and happy to use the teaching module. The teaching module that has been developed can be used in mathematics learning for class VII middle school. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kesulitan siswa dalam memahami konsep matematika pada materi segiempat dan segitiga. Oleh karena itu, peneliti mengembangkan modul ajar untuk memudahkan siswa dalam memahami konsep matematika yang sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa berdasarkan etnomatematika khas batik yang terdapat di lingkungan sekolah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan modul ajar berbasis etnomatematika yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan Plomp. Subyek yang digunakan pada kelas uji coba adalah kelas VIII B SMPN 1 Arjasa, dengan menggunakan metode random sampling. Berdasarkan hasil analisis penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa: 1) Modul ajar berbasis etnomatematika yang dikembangkan valid, praktis dan efektif; 2) Modul ajar yang dikembangkan dapat membantu siswa dalam memahami konsep bangun datar dengan persentase ketuntasan siswa sebesar 83,33% serta respon siswa yang tertarik dan senang menggunakan modul ajar. Modul ajar yang dikembangkan dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran matematika kelas VII SMP.
