IntroductionIn recent years, there is a growing interest in microbiota and how certain dietary patterns affect our brain. We know that diet has an important impact in physical and mental health. The ...mecanism that underlies is already unknown, but there is emerging evidence that diet modulates brain gut microbiota and has implications in mental problems.ObjectivesThe aim of this poster is highlight the importance of diet in mental health and the link with microbiota.MethodsReview of recent literature about diet, microbiota and psychiatry. The studies were collected of the electronic databases PubMed.ResultsNew researches highlight the importance of adequate nutrition for mental health. Several studies link healthy diet with a minor risk of mental illnesses or with the improvement of depressive symptoms. Likewise, poor dietary habits could aggravate cognitive decline and increased risk of developing anxiety, depression or other mental illnesses. It has been shown that a diet rich in fiber, polyphenols and micronutrients improve gut microbial composition and can reduce metabolic endotoxemia and neuroinflammation, and this has been associated with improvements in brain health. Also, prebiotic and probiotics have positive effects. Therefore, dietary interventions could be a complementary therapeutic approach for patients with mental problems. This is what nutritional psychiatry focuses on.ConclusionsMicrobiota as a potential therapeutic target for mental illness is a hot topic in psychiatry, but also, its interaction with dietary change or the use of probiotics and prebiotics. This action is easy to implement in our clinical practice and could be part of a biopsychosocial treatment to improve or prevent some psychiatric disorders.Nutritional psychiatry is a new field that needs to be developed and the knowledge in microbiota, diet and mental health could help. Hopefully, the research about this topic continues expanding.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared
The aim of this work was the recovery of protein substrates from monkfish waste (heads and viscera) generated in the on-board processing of this species. Initially, the effect of pH, temperature, and ...protease concentration was studied on mixtures of a 1:1 ratio (
) of monkfish heads/water. The optimal conditions of proteolytic digestion were established at 57.4 °C, pH 8.31, Alcalase = 0.05% (
) for 3 h of hydrolysis. Later on, a set of hydrolysis at 5L-pH-stat reactor were run under the aforementioned conditions, confirming the validity of the optimization studies for the head and viscera of monkfish. Regarding the chemical properties of the fish protein hydrolysates (FPH), the yield of digestion was higher than 90% in both cases and the degrees of hydrolysis and the soluble protein content were not especially large (<20% and <45 g/L, respectively). In vitro digestibility was higher than 90% and the percentage of essential amino acids ranged from 40 to 42%. Antioxidant activities were higher in viscera FPH, and antihypertensive ability was superior in head FPH. The values of number average molecular weights (Mn) of monkfish hydrolysates were 600 Da in the viscera and 947 Da in the head. The peptide size distribution, obtained by size-exclusion chromatography, indicated that the largest presence of peptides below 1000 Da and 200 Da was observed in the viscera FPH.
A reliability generalization meta-analysis was carried out to estimate the average reliability of the seven-item, 5-point Likert-type Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), one of the most widespread ...scales developed around the COVID-19 pandemic. Different reliability coefficients from classical test theory and the Rasch Measurement Model were meta-analyzed, heterogeneity among the most reported reliability estimates was examined by searching for moderators, and a predictive model to estimate the expected reliability was proposed. At least one reliability estimate was available for a total of 44 independent samples out of 42 studies, being that Cronbach’s alpha was most frequently reported. The coefficients exhibited pooled estimates ranging from .85 to .90. The moderator analyses led to a predictive model in which the standard deviation of scores explained 36.7% of the total variability among alpha coefficients. The FCV-19S has been shown to be consistently reliable regardless of the moderator variables examined.
IntroductionThe metaverse is a digital world created using different technologies like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), cryptocurrency and the internet.Interest in the metaverse has ...grown in recent months in different fields and it could have potential application in the treatment of mental health disorders.ObjectivesTo gain a better understanding of metaverse and to explore its possible applications on mental health.MethodsReview of recent literature about the implications of the metaverse users in mental health.ResultsMetaverse is a virtual universe where people can interact with other users, objects, and environments personifying an avatar. VR, AR and mixed reality (MR) have been used in the treatment and diagnosis of various mental health disorders for last years.Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, eating disorders, anxiety, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder have been already benefited from VR. Also, there are results to treat persecutory delusions in psychosis. On the other hand, we know that to spend a significant amount of time playing 3D immersive games and using social media, could lead to insecurity, anxiety, depression and behavioural addiction. The lack of evidence and these risks could be limitations to implement Metaverse for the therapeutic management of mental health. Many companies have already started to develop virtual mental health clinics with mental health professionals serving patients in real time, some spaces have already offer group therapy sessions. Other immersive spaces have also been created for practising mindfulness, meditation, or yoga.ConclusionsThe new technologys have changed the way that we socialise, work, and interact, even the way that we receive medical treatment. The metaverse could prove useful in the management of the mental health disorders that have already benefited from VR, but at the same time we could potentially lead to the worsening of others.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared
A core assumption of Basic Emotion Theory is that the conscious experience of a basic emotion co-occurs with a facial expression signal of that same emotion. Our analysis of available evidence found ...co-occurrence in only 13% of cases-thus calling into question basic and applied studies in which the emotion is inferred from the face. Our second analysis counted as a co-occurrence even when only part of the facial signal was observed. Co-occurrence was found in only 23% of cases. Witkower et al.'s rebuttal failed to undermine these important findings. They claimed that similar degrees of correlation are found in other areas of psychology, but they confuse co-occurrence of two intrinsic manifestations of the same event (expression and experience of emotion) with the correlation between one potential causal antecedent and an observed event (e.g., effects of meditation on anxiety). Our results stand as a major challenge to Basic Emotion Theory.
This article provides a more comprehensive view of relational capital (RC) and how it affects knowledge sharing (KS) within family firms. Through the lens of an RC framework with four dimensions ...(agent, context, object, and relationship) and a relational perspective, we propose that the agent, context and relationship have an effect on the sharing of the object (knowledge). To operationalize the dimensions we used mutual trust and reciprocal commitment to represent the agent, norms and sanctions the context, and strength of ties the relationship. To empirically test the proposal, quantitative relational data at the dyadic level was collected from 27 agents including family members and non-family members in a manufacturing company located in Mexico. Data was analyzed using social network analysis through multiple regression quadratic assignment procedure (MRQAP). Findings suggest that RC is better represented by one individual dimension (mutual trust), one relational dimension (ties strength) and one contextual dimension (norms and sanctions) and they prove to have a significant effect on KS. This study contributes to the social capital and knowledge management literature by expanding, through a relational perspective, the understanding of the RC variables and their effects on KS within the context of family businesses in a Latin American emerging economy.
•Fast analysis of polar pesticides in water samples by on line-SPE-UHPLC–MS/MS.•Method is easily automatable and requires minimal sample volume and sample handling.•On line-SPE provides good ...extraction recoveries, reproducibility and low LOQ values.•Standard addition method was used to quantify real samples due to matrix effects.•Some pesticides were detected in superficial water samples analyzed at trace levels.
A simple, fast and sensitive method has been developed for the determination of 37 LC-amenable pesticides in surface water samples. On-line solid phase extraction (SPE) coupled to ultra high performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC–MS/MS. was employed for pre-concentration and analysis of all compounds in 16min. SPE parameters were evaluated in order to increase sample throughput and detectability. Thus, injected sample volume, sample loading flow, carryover effects and reusability of the cartridges employed were studied, observing that 70 extractions can be performed with the same cartridge. Validation parameters were performed and good linearity (R2>0.99 in all cases) and precision (interday relative standard deviation values were lower than 14%) were obtained. Limits of detection (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) were lower than 6.0 and 18.0ngL−1 applying an injection sample volume of 1.5mL, respectively, with exception of thifensulfuron methyl, whose limits were 10.0 and 33.0ngL−1, respectively. On-line SPE recoveries were evaluated for three concentration levels (0.01, 0.03, 0.10 and 0.20μgL−1) and acceptable values were found. The on-line SPE method was also compared with off-line SPE. Matrix effects were observed for majority of compounds and standard addition method was selected for analysis of real water samples. Finally, surface water samples were analyzed and, in all cases, the pesticide concentrations were below than the allowable limit in water for human consumption.

•A high sensitivity fluorimetric HPLC method was applied to analyze OHPAHs.•Fluorimetric multiemission detection increases the selectivity and sensitivity.•A novel and simple extraction procedure for ...milk was optimized.•The proposed method allows the simultaneous analysis of OHPAHs in human breast milk and in cow milk.
Hydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OHPAHs) in biological fluids, such as milk, are considered as biomarkers of exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in organism. The presence of OHPAHs in milk samples indicates a potential contamination on human organisms and milk producing animals. In this way, infants can be contaminated by lactation through the consumption of milk of both, human and animal origins. In this paper, eight OHPAHs have been analyzed in commercial cow milks and in human breast milk using HPLC and fast scanning fluorimetric detection (FSFD). Extraction and cleaning procedures of OHPAHs from milk samples have been investigated, and the experimental results using two bibliographic protocols and a new proposed protocol have been compared. The new protocol using enzymatic hydrolysis, proteins precipitation and, solvent extraction using acetonitrile, was proposed as the most adequate for the determination of 2-hydroxyfluorene, 1-/9-, 2-/3- and 4-hydroxyphenanthrenes, 1-hydroxypyrene and 3-hydroxybenzoapyrene. The method recoveries ranged from 80–102% and 75–91% for fresh cow milk and for human breast milk, respectively, for all components except for 3-OHBza Py. Low recovery values were calculated for 3-hydroxybenzoapyrene in all cases. No statistical difference in the method performance was observed between fresh cow milk and human breast milk.
Cationic dendrimers, such as PAMAM, are known to be positively charged at neutral pH allowing their unspecific interaction with proteins and other cellular components. Especially, ferritin, which has ...an important role in iron homeostasis, presents a negative electrostatic potential at the 3-fold channel. This channel is important in the functionality of ferritin because it allows the iron entry into its inner cavity. In this way, the interaction between the protonated terminal amines of the dendrimer and the negatively charged 3-fold channels of ferritin is expected. Experimental measurements demonstrated that PAMAM G4 inhibits the iron storage properties of L-chain human ferritin (L-Ftn). Molecular dynamics simulations have been used to analyze the specific interaction between PAMAM G4 and L-Ftn. Results show that PAMAM G4 effectively interacts with the 3-fold channels of L-Ftn, suggesting that this interaction is responsible for the inhibition of the iron storage properties of L-Ftn.
