Quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) discovered in the decaying tails of giant flares of magnetars are believed to be torsional oscillations of neutron stars. These QPOs have a high potential to ...constrain properties of high-density matter. In search for quasi-periodic signals, we study the light curves of the giant flares of SGR 1806-20 and SGR 1900+14, with a non-parametric Bayesian signal inference method called D3PO. The D3PO algorithm models the raw photon counts as a continuous flux and takes the Poissonian shot noise as well as all instrument effects into account. It reconstructs the logarithmic flux and its power spectrum from the data. Using this fully noise-aware method, we do not confirm previously reported frequency lines at ν ≳ 17 Hz because they fall into the noise-dominated regime. However, we find two new potential candidates for oscillations at 9.2 Hz (SGR 1806-20) and 7.7 Hz (SGR 1900+14). If these are real and the fundamental magneto-elastic oscillations of the magnetars, current theoretical models would favour relatively weak magnetic fields B̅ ~ 6× 1013–3 × 1014 G (SGR 1806-20) and a relatively low shear velocity inside the crust compared to previous findings.

We investigate ground and excited state transport through small (d≈70 nm) graphene quantum dots. The successive spin filling of orbital states is detected by measuring the difference between ...ground-state energies as a function of a magnetic field. For a magnetic field in-plane of the quantum dot the Zeeman splitting of spin states is measured. The results are compatible with a g factor of 2, and we detect a spin-filling sequence for a series of states which is reasonable given the strength of exchange interaction effects expected by comparing Coulomb interaction energy and kinetic energy of charge carriers in graphene.
We experimentally investigate a strongly driven GaAs double quantum dot charge qubit weakly coupled to a superconducting microwave resonator. The Floquet states emerging from strong driving are ...probed by tracing the qubit-resonator resonance condition. In this way, we probe the resonance of a qubit that is driven in an adiabatic, a nonadiabatic, or an intermediate rate, showing distinct quantum features of multiphoton processes and a fringe pattern similar to Landau-Zener-Stückelberg interference. Our resonant detection scheme enables the investigation of novel features when the drive frequency is comparable to the resonator frequency. Models based on the adiabatic approximation, rotating wave approximation, and Floquet theory explain our experimental observations.
Objectives. The objective of this study is to use bibliometric and systemic terms to select and analyze a set of articles dealing with occupational risk management in the civil construction industry. ...Methods
. Knowledge development process - constructivist (ProKnow-C) methodology was used as an intervention instrument to guide the selection of the bibliographic portfolio and to support systemic analysis. Results. The bibliographic portfolio was created and included 20 articles. Bibliometric highlights were relevant articles, authors, countries of origin, journals and keywords. Systemic analysis showed opportunities to contribute to the state of the art in all areas of knowledge, enabling the researcher to understand theoretical bases, gaps and research opportunities for the theme and thus establish their research question in accordance with the established knowledge vision. Conclusions. The systemic analysis of each article in the bibliographic portfolio based on the decision support model and areas of knowledge present in each stage of its construction measures the amplitude of the knowledge at each stage, and therefore the completeness of or gaps in each article. This clarifies the overall state of and gaps in the field, showing opportunities for new research.
