Abstract Realism is conventionally understood as coldly accepting the powerful dominating the weak. Reversing this image, I argue that Realism contains an implicit ethos of resistance. Drawing on a ...recent scholarship on the historical complexity and diversity of classical Realism in international relations (IR), this article uncovers this ethos by focusing on three shifts of perspective: (1) from an extreme to moderate view of power politics; (2) from naturalizing the status quo to envisaging progressive change; and (3) from a horizontal view of politics among nations (or other horizontally situated entities) to a global image of power politics. I then explore how these shifts exist in a different scholarship, the emergence of a so-called new Realism in political theory. The article builds a conversation between classical Realism in IR and the new Realist philosopher Bernard Williams’ work, finding that both articulate an ethos of legitimate resistance to domination. The significance of the Realist ethos is that it challenges stereotyped images of the tradition justifying domination and injustices, and it inserts and positions a Realist voice in recent debates over human rights to resist in global politics.
O presente artigo irá abordar a violência cometida pelo policial militar contra as mulheres. O objetivo é identificar as principais diferenças que existe para que esse profissional seja punido de ...maneira exemplar, perante o código de conduta da instituição. A metodologia adotada para a realização do presente artigo, foi a pesquisa de cunho bibliográfico. A fundamentação teórica foi dividida em duas partes, a primeira enaltece o problema da criminalidade contra o gênero feminino, enquanto que a segunda, demonstra como o policial militar que comete esse tipo de ato, é punido de maneira muito mais efetiva, isso pelo fato de que se alia contra ele a lei vigente para toda a sociedade, e também a aplicada pelo código de conduta de caráter administrativo. O artigo visa contribuir para demonstrar que, nem mesmo as mulheres que trabalham como policiais militares, ou são cônjuges de algum, não estão livres das agressões e demais modalidades de crimes contra si. Nas considerações finais, os leitores podem visualizar como o código de conduta militar pune o profissional que comete esse tipo de crime contra a mulher de uma maneira mais rígida, por se tratar de uma classe que deve dar exemplo para a sociedade.
Por que precisamos falar da violência cometida contra as mulheres pelo policial militar e colocar em pauta o que diz a lei para o profissional? Este tema traz à luz um assunto que, claramente é pouco ...frequente no imaginário social. Apesar do termo feminicídio estar sendo cada vez mais difundido na sociedade e atualmente a violência contra o público feminino se configurar como uma das realidades mais vistas no trabalho dos policiais, pouco se imagina que em muitas situações este crime possa ser cometido por algum policial militar, até mesmo contra uma profissional que também atua na segurança pública. Deste modo faz-se necessário colocar este assunto em pauta, por meio embasamentos teóricos e jurídicos pretende-se demonstrar que, nem mesmo as mulheres que trabalham como policiais militares, ou são cônjuges de algum, estão livres das agressões e demais modalidades de crimes contra si, e também defender que o profissional que comete esse tipo de crime contra a mulher seja punido de maneira mais rígida de acordo como o código de conduta militar, já que estes profissionais são aqueles que deveriam dar exemplo para a sociedade.
Illegal state actions are sometimes interpreted as civil disobedience. Yet, liberal theorists insist that, to count as such, states must intend to reform the systemic imperfections of the ...international legal order. Moreover, states must have the capacity to engineer such reforms responsibly. These requirements result in an elitist conception of international civil disobedience because weaker states cannot refashion the key rules of the international legal order. By introducing a broader conception of resistance than found in existing theory, I show how weaker states can still engage in civil disobedience. A conceptual framework of two types of power supports my argument: constituent power and destituent power. If state action were expressed through these two types of power, then more states and more types of illegal action would count as examples of civil disobedience.
The International Criminal Court (icc) faces a profound authority crisis. This article explores the underlying conditions and ethical implications of this crisis in light of Immanuel Kant's ...(1724-1804) political theory. The icc's authority crisis is twofold: First, having been constructed as a purely legal actor, the Court's inevitable role in politics has undermined perceptions of its legitimacy. Second, having been constructed as a supranational substitute for domestic legal authority, the icc has been subverted by other, political branches of the state, such as the executive. These problems have been particularly salient in Africa where states have vociferously challenged the Court's investigations and prosecutions. Kantian political ethics show that the icc's authority crisis is an intractable moral problem that must be addressed collectively and coercively by sovereign states acting upon a larger, cosmopolitan duty to enforce universal rights.
