This study analyzes how corporate social responsibility (CSR) influences consumer behavior in the case of the Spanish agrifood sector. The originality of the study resides in the proposed model that ...explains that CSR influences perceptions of food safety and health, and quality, and that this perceived quality influences consumer behavior, that is, satisfaction and loyalty. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data from 295 personal interviews; satisfactory results were obtained for all the proposed relationships. Therefore, we suggest that, to achieve consumer loyalty, agrifood companies should orient their strategies toward creating sustainable relationships based on CSR actions. Other academic and management implications are proposed to complete the paper. EconLit Citations: M14, M310, Q13.
AIEgens have emerged as a promising alternative to molecular rotors in bioimaging applications. However, transferring the concept of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) from solution to living systems ...remains a challenge. Given the highly heterogeneous nature and the compartmentalization of the cell, different approaches are needed to control the self-assembly within the crowded intricate cellular environment. Herein, we report for the first time the self-assembly mechanism of an anthracene-guanidine derivative (AG) forming the rare and highly emissive T-shaped dimer in breast cancer cell lines as a proof of concept. This process is highly sensitive to the local environment in terms of polarity, viscosity, and/or water quantity that should enable the use of the AG as a fluorescence lifetime imaging biosensor for intracellular imaging of cellular structures and the monitoring of intracellular state parameters. Different populations of the monomer and T-shaped and π–π dimers were observed in the cell membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleoplasm, related to the local viscosity and presence of water. The T-shaped dimer is formed preferentially in the nucleus because of the higher density and viscosity compared to the cytoplasm. The present results should serve as a precursor for the development of new design strategies for molecular systems for a wide range of applications such as cell viscosity, density, or temperature sensing and imaging.
Mineral dust aerosols are composed of a complex assemblage of various minerals depending on the region in which they originated. Given the different mineral composition of desert dust aerosols, ...different physicochemical properties and therefore varying climate effects are expected. Despite the known regional variations in mineral composition, chemical transport models typically assume that mineral dust aerosols have uniform composition. This study adds, for the first time, mineralogical information to the mineral dust emission scheme used in the chemical transport model COSMO–MUSCAT. We provide a detailed description of the implementation of the mineralogical database, GMINER (Nickovic et al., 2012), together with a specific set of physical parameterizations in the model's mineral dust emission module, which led to a general improvement of the model performance when comparing the simulated mineral dust aerosols with measurements over the Sahara region for January–February 2022. The simulated mineral dust aerosol vertical distribution is tested by a comparison with aerosol lidar measurements from the lidar system PollyXT, located at Cape Verde. For a lofted mineral dust aerosol layer on 2 February at 05:00 UTC the lidar retrievals yield a dust mass concentration peak of 156 µg m−3, while the model calculates the mineral dust peak at 136 µg m−3. The results highlight the possibility of using the model with resolved mineral dust composition for interpretation of the lidar measurements since a higher absorption in the UV–Vis wavelengths is correlated with particles having a higher hematite content. Additionally, the comparison with in situ mineralogical measurements of dust aerosol particles shows that more of them are needed for model evaluation.
Open innovation benefits from access to cutting-edge discoveries to increase their transformation into tangible applications for the benefit of society. Improving research quality has been proposed ...as a primary objective of open science by the United Nations, to increase science reproducibility, impact, and trust, leading to robust decision-making and policies. However, opening access to data and processes is insufficient for researchers to achieve open innovation in the context of globalization, for example, by gathering insights from external and internal sources. Developing the appropriate mindset to manage complexity and generate synergy among researchers in academia, industry, and the government is essential to catalyze knowledge and transform it into relevant innovations for society. To gain insights into the roles and challenges of researchers aiming to bridge the gap between open science and open innovation, a decade-plus Mapping Literature Review was conducted based on the complex thinking paradigm. Complex thinking allows for novel connections of the information collected through open science and open innovation, considering different forms of engaging with alternative means of knowledge creation that may promote innovative and critical thinking. The findings revealed: a) broad positioning of the terms in the European Union; b) open access and open data as current driving themes; c) a constant trade-off between the terms “open data” and “information protection”; d) lack of studies on researchers’ complex thinking to help them manage openness; e) absence of the environmental helix in the initiatives; and (f) challenges in innovative communication and collaborative practices among public and private entities. Overall, we identified an opportunity to develop researchers’ complex thinking such that the openness of information becomes a shared responsibility among partners across multiple helices. This shared responsibility can have methodological implications that permeate how open science and open innovation are theorized and, in practice, facilitate the development of fundamental collaborative research procedures.
Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is ideal for the diagnosis of pancreatic neoplasms with high precision. We described five cases of metastases to the pancreas, highlighting the importance of clinical ...data, imaging features and the use of immunocytochemistry to lead the diagnosis. We retrospectively searched our archives for metastatic neoplasm to the pancreas diagnosed with FNA performed with endoscopic ultrasound, over a 5-year period. Furthermore, we reviewed the literature for imaging and cytologic features. We described five cases of metastatic neoplasms, a renal cell carcinoma, a breast carcinoma, one leiomyosarcoma, a hepatocellular carcinoma, and ovarian serous carcinoma. All of them has history of primary malignancy and were confirmed with immunostains. All the patients were asymptomatic and identified the metastasis during the follow-up, except for the ovarian serous carcinoma were the patient had acute abdominal pain, and the most common imaging feature were the irregular borders. Although the metastases to pancreas are rare, its important to always have the history of the patient, imaging features, and the suspicion at the moment of the evaluation of the smears and cell-block, because the management and prognostic its different compared to primary malignancies.

Quality of work (QoW) encompasses multiple objective and subjective dimensions, which may include labor income, job stability, job satisfaction, and social security. This paper follows the method ...proposed by Gómez-Salcedo et al. (2013) that introduces a new way of measuring QoW, which consists of (1) the use of Sen’s functioning and capabilities approach and (2) a fuzzy sets method to define membership to the sets of good job quality. Using the Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares, we obtain results at the national level about age, gender, educational level, firm size, and industry sector. The results are consistent with previous literature. One topic that is highlighted from our results is the existence of a “Quality of Work Life Cycle”, with higher levels of the index up to age 30, that may have critical implications for the social security system; people with lower quality jobs may not be contributing to health and pension funds, leaving many people without access to a retirement fund and implying more demands on the subsidized system to cover health expenses.
