With increasing interest in a translingual approach to writing studies, a considerable amount of empirical research has been conducted to investigate how this approach can affect writing practice and ...pedagogy. This article reports on 42 empirical studies on a translingual approach to writing and discusses the approach’s implications for teaching writing in English as an additional language (EAL). The results reveal that a translingual approach has been enacted in various contexts with diverse writer groups and for different research foci. The findings show that a translingual approach that advocates for writer agency, languages other than English as resources rather than impediments, heterogeneity as the norm in the classroom, and a challenge to English monolingualism (1) brings more ideological discussions to the teaching of EAL writing, (2) enriches written feedback studies with more negotiation of unconventional language use, and (3) facilitates EAL writing instruction and learning through viewing oral genres as resources for written genres. Nevertheless, the findings also indicate the need for caution (such as balancing language norms and deviations rather than resisting the norms and crossing rather than flattening language differences) in adopting a translingual approach to EAL writing.
To investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of photoaging in the Chinese population. This web-based cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2023 and March 2023 among the ...Chinese population aged 18-80 years old. Participants' knowledge, attitude, and practice toward photoaging were collected through a self-administered questionnaire. A total of 830 questionnaires were collected, with 826 valid questionnaires and an efficiency rate of 99.52%. There were 274 (33.17%) males and 532 (64.41%) aged 31-51 years old. The average knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 7 (4, 9) (possible range 0-12), 31.5 (28, 34) (possible range 8-40), and 33 (24, 42) (possible range 11-55), respectively, indicating poor knowledge, good attitude, and moderate practice. Spearman correlation analysis showed that knowledge was negatively correlated with attitude (r = - 0.111, P < 0.05) and practice (r = - 0.113, P < 0.05), and attitude was positively correlated with practice (r = 0.992, P < 0.05). The multivariable linear regression model showed that for each point increase in attitude score, the practice score increased by 2.96 points (β = 2.96, 95% CI 2.91-3.01, P < 0.001). The Chinese population has poor knowledge, good attitude, and moderate practice toward photoaging. A good attitude toward photoaging would lead to good practice, and more outreach and education for the Chinese population might be needed.
A highly efficient
-mediated transformation method is needed for the molecular study of model tree species such as hybrid poplar 84K (
×
cv. '84K'). In this study, we report a callus-based ...transformation method that exhibits high efficiency and reproducibility. The optimized callus induction medium (CIM1) induced the development of calli from leaves with high efficiency, and multiple shoots were induced from calli growing on the optimized shoot induction medium (SIM1). Factors affecting the transformation frequency of calli were optimized as follows:
concentration sets at an OD
of 0.6,
infective suspension with an acetosyringone (AS) concentration of 100 µM, infection time of 15 min, cocultivation duration of 2 days and precultivation duration of 6 days. Using this method, transgenic plants are obtained within approximately 2 months with a transformation frequency greater than 50%. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) and β-galactosidase (GUS) histochemical staining analyses confirmed the successful generation of stable transformants. Additionally, the calli from leaves were subcultured and used to obtain new explants; the high transformation efficiency was still maintained in subcultured calli after 6 cycles. This method provides a reference for developing effective transformation protocols for other poplar species.
It is fundamental to develop highly efficient visible light-responsive photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance material for fabricating PEC biosensor. Herein, BiPO4/three-dimensional nitrogen doped ...graphene hydrogel (3DNGH) nanocomposites were prepared for the first time via a facile one-pot hydrothermal route. In this nanoarchitecture, the BiPO4 nanorods were anchored onto the porous structure of 3DNGH. Compared with pristine BiPO4, the absorption of BiPO4/3DNGH has been extend to visible-light region, and the energy band gap of BiPO4/3DNGH was calculated to be 2.10 eV, which was greatly narrower than that of pristine BiPO4 with a band gap of 3.85 eV. Under visible light irradiation, the photocurrent signal of the as-prepared BiPO4/3DNGH was 847.2-fold, 4.1-fold and 2.3-fold enhanced comparing to pristine BiPO4, BiPO4 functionalized reduced graphene oxide and BiPO4/nitrogen doped graphene. The enhancement of such photocurrent signal was attributed to the introduction of 3DNGH, which was capable to improve the charge transfer rate and also the efficiency of visible-light utilization of BiPO4. Based on the excellent PEC properties of BiPO4/3DNGH, a label-free PEC aptasensor for selectivity and sensitivity detection of tetracycline (Tc) was successfully established by using Tc aptamer as a biorecognition element. Under optimized conditions, the proposed PEC aptasensor exhibited a wide linear in the range from 0.1 nmol L−1 to 1 μmol L−1 as well as a low detection limit of 0.033 nmol L−1 (S/N = 3). The prepared BiPO4/3DNGH nanocomposites would serve as a promising visible light-responsive photoactive material for fabrication of PEC biosensors with high performance.
•BiPO4/3DNGH with super visible light-responsive was prepared for the first time.•The photocurrent of BiPO4/3DNGH was greatly enhanced compared with pristine BiPO4, BiPO4/rGO and BiPO4/NG.•A visible light-driven PEC tetracycline aptasensor was successfully established.•The proposed aptasensor exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity for tetracycline detection.
Four flavonoid glycosides containing coumaroyl or feruloyl groups were isolated from the male flowers of Ginkgo biloba L., and compounds 3 and 4 were identified as novel compounds. The inhibitory ...activities against α-glucosidase were investigated by docking studies, in vitro assays and kinetic studies. The docking results showed that all compounds mainly formed hydrogen-bond and π-π-stacking interactions with α-glucosidase. Compound 4 had the lowest binding energy and maximum number of hydrogen bonds. Subsequently, the in vitro assays showed that compound 4 exhibited the strongest inhibitory potency. Finally, the kinetic studies indicated the inhibitory mode of compounds 1-4 against α-glucosidase were mixed types of competitive and non-competitive. Together, these findings suggested that the isolated flavonoid glycosides in this study, especially compound 4, have potential as α-glucosidase inhibitors.
•Urbanization level of Wuhan metropolitan area were assessed from 2000 to 2019.•The urbanization process was divided into four periods.•The evaluation index system of the water system pattern was ...established.•The downward trend of water system pattern indicators correlated with urbanization.•Correlation varied in different urbanization stages.
With the rapid economic development and continuous urbanization, the status of river ecosystems is undergoing profound changes. Therefore, quantitative assessment of the impact of urbanization on the water system is highly desirable. Considering Wuhan metropolitan area as the study area, this study constructed an indicator system and used the entropy technique for order preference similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method to quantify the urbanization level of each city. The urbanization process was divided into four periods based on the results of the urbanization level measurement. Then, the theory of landscape ecology was used to establish the evaluation index system of the water system pattern. Finally, the study used the grey relational analysis model to analyze the relationship between urbanization and evolution of water patterns under different periods. The results indicate that (1) from 2000 to 2019, the urbanization level of Wuhan metropolitan area exhibited an increasing trend, while the four indicators of the quantitative attribute and the two indicators of complexity showed a decline. (2) A negative correlation was observed between urbanization level and water system pattern indicators, with the correlation ranging from 0.55 to 0.62 (maximum value is 1). The urbanization process shows the most significant impact on the quantitative characteristics of water systems. (3) After classifying the urbanization stages, the correlation further increased between 0.55 and 0.95. (4) The four indicators of water patterns with the highest correlation with urbanization in the given periods are class area, area-weighted mean patch fractal dimension, edge density, and number of patches. Management can judge the corresponding human activities in relation to the current stage of the urbanization process and targeted protection of the water systems.

is more resistant to salt stress. It is critical to investigate the ...transcriptome and molecular basis of salt tolerance in order to uncover stress-related genes. In this study, salt-tolerant treatment of
resulted in an increase in osmo-regulatory substances and recovery of antioxidant enzymes. To improve the mining efficiency of candidate genes, the analysis combining both the transcriptome WGCNA and the former GWAS results was selected, and a range of key regulatory factors with salt resistance were found. The

overexpressed plants were better than that of the wild type under salt stress. Transcriptome analysis of leaves of transgenic lines and WT revealed that highly enriched GO terms in DEGs were associated with stress responses, including abiotic stimuli responses, chemical responses, and oxidative stress responses. The result is helpful for in-depth analysis of the salt tolerance mechanism of poplar. This work provides important genes for poplar breeding with salt tolerance.
Artificial intelligence (AI) offers the potential for the development of e-textiles that give wearers a smart and intuitive experience. An emerging challenge in intelligent materials design is hand ...gesture recognition textiles. Most current research focuses on number gesture recognition via smart gloves, so there is a gap in research that studies contact-less number gesture recognition textiles via computer vision. Meanwhile, there is lack of exploration on the integration of illuminating function and number gesture recognition textiles to improve interactivity by real-time visualizing detection results. In this research, a novel interactive illuminating textile with a touch-less number gesture recognition function has been designed and fabricated by using an open-source AI model. It is used in sync with a polymeric optical fiber textile with illuminative features. The textile is color-changing, controlled by the system's mid-air interactive number gesture recognition capability and has a woven stripe pattern and a double-layer weave structure with open pockets to facilitate integration of the system's components. Also described here is a novel design process that permits textile design and intelligent technology to integrate seamlessly and in synchronization, so that design in effect mediates continuously between the physical textile and the intangible technology. Moreover, this design method serves as a reference for the integration of open-source intelligent hardware and software into e-textiles for enhancement of the intuitive function and value via economy of labor.
This paper introduces a weaving method to develop three-dimensional and stretchable polymeric optical fiber (POF) fabrics with double weave. It was discovered from the literature that the appearance ...and property of existing POF textiles are still quite limited. So far, stretch performance has not been realized for POF textiles. The goal of this paper is to determine the design parameters of creating three-dimensional and stretchable POF textiles. The new properties for POF textiles were realized by combing double weave and elastic yarns with suitable motifs. The surface dimension and stretch were compared for eight POF samples . From the experimental results, it was shown that the POF fabrics woven with the unstitched double weave at substantial transverse areas exhibited the most effective three-dimensional effect and stretch. The POF samples created in this study showcased the characteristics of dimensional surface, great volume, high stretch, as well as unique luminous effects.
