The active twist control of helicopter rotor blades by an application of macro-fiber composite (MFC) actuators leads to significant vibration and noise reduction without the need for complex ...mechanisms in the rotating systems. For environmental improvement an optimal design methodology based on planning experiments and response surface technique has been developed for an active twist of helicopter rotor blades consisting of C-spar made of unidirectional GFRP, skin made of +45°/−45° GFRP, foam core, MFC actuators embedded into the skin and balance weight. The structural static analysis with thermal load, static torsion analysis and modal analysis using 3D finite element models has been developed using ANSYS for the optimal design. In this case thermal strain analogy between piezoelectric strains and thermally induced strains is used to model piezoelectric effects. The optimization results have been obtained for four design solutions connected with the application of active materials.
A method for determining the elastic modulus of polymeric materials from deformation diagrams of thin-walled circular cylindrical shells in compression and tension in the region of geometrical ...nonlinearity has been elaborated. A numerical solution is found by the finite-element method (ANSYS.) The existence of a unified deformation diagram in generalized coordinates is established, from which the elastic modulus is determined. To validate the method, the eigenfrequencies of cylindrical specimens were found experimentally. The results obtained are compared with FEM calculations.
This article examines the issue of forecasting the time series of server systems and suggests applying the triple exponential smoothing model to solve this problem. It presents a mathematical ...formulation of the problem and describes the specifics of forecasting the time series of server systems. After this the article gives a comparative analysis of the autoregressive, neural network and exponential smoothing models in terms of their application to this problem. It argues that the triple exponential smoothing model (Holt-Winters method) offers a number of advantages when modelling the time series of server systems. It then provides experimental research to evaluate the accuracy of the Holt-Winters method with respect to the indicated time series. The research shows that the triple exponential smoothing model exhibits high results and can be applied to the solution of practical problems.
The aspects of Case-based reasoning system operation are described. The possibility of application such system to gas-compressor units within gas-compressor stations for revealing emergencies is ...considered. A functional diagram of intellectual case-based decision-support system is offered. The diagram is to minimize maintenance staff operation during control of technological gas-compression process, which leads to minimizing human factor influence on the quality of decision-making in the field of control in emergency cases.
This article describes how methods of fuzzy logic apply to detection of critical production processes for the purposes of optimization and control of production and automated processes. We propose a ...mathematical model based on fuzzy logic methods to identify critical processes. The system of fuzzy logic inference is formulated. The existence of task solution is proven. Criteria for task solving efficiency are formulated and described.
One of the urgent directions of efficiency enhancement of production processes and enterprises activities management is creation and use of corporate knowledge bases. The article suggests a concept ...of problem-oriented corporate knowledge bases (PO CKB), in which knowledge is arranged around possible problem situations and represents a tool for making and implementing decisions in such situations. For knowledge representation in PO CKB a case-based reasoning approach is encouraged to use. Under this approach, the content of a case as a knowledge base component has been defined; based on the situation tree a PO CKB knowledge model has been developed, in which the knowledge about typical situations as well as specific examples of situations and solutions have been represented. A generalized problem-oriented corporate knowledge base structural chart and possible modes of its operation have been suggested. The obtained models allow creating and using corporate knowledge bases for support of decision making and implementing, training, staff skill upgrading and analysis of the decisions taken. The universal interpretation of terms "situation" and "solution" adopted in the work allows using the suggested models to develop problem-oriented corporate knowledge bases in different subject domains. It has been suggested to use the developed models for making corporate knowledge bases of the enterprises that operate engineer systems and networks at large production facilities.
The work shows, that in developing transmission network for data transmission in the waters of the Northern Sea route it is expediently to use medium-wave band at the expense of more steady ...telecommunication line because of lack of spatial wave in near-field zone. Types of modulation and signal-code designs for down-link and up-link were determined. Also it was established that using amplitude-phase modulations with block turbo code, it provides the best spectral and energy efficiency for down-link and frequency-shift signal for up-link is efficient.

was used to study the changes in the background cerebral activity during “successful” cognitive aging, with the cognitive ability preserved, in ...subjects engaged in complex occupational activities. The sample consisted of an older age group (OAG) of 32 subjects (14 men and 18 women with a mean age of 65.1 ± 1.18 years) and a younger age group (YAG) of 33 subjects (18 men and 15 women with a mean age of 22.1 ± 0.38 years). The mean power of the slow (Δ, θ, and α

) rhythms decrease with age, and that of the fast (β and γ) rhythms increase with age. The heterogeneity of the power parameters recorded at different sites was decreased in the OAG compared to the YAG. The centro-lateral power gradient was smoothed in the frequency bands from Δ- to β

bands in the OAG. The results suggest that the observed age-related changes are prerequisites for the involvement of compensatory mechanisms, which may be related to both mobilization of larger resources ensuring cognitive activity and reorganization of cortical networks in the areas prone to age-related physiological changes.
