Five octaethylporphyrins (OEP) and tetraphenylporphyrins (TPP): (OEP)InCl, (OEP)MnCl, (OEP)GaCl, (TPP)Pd, and (TPP)RhI have been deposited as sensitive coating onto quartz-crystal microbalances. The ...sensitivities of the resulting sensors have been measured with respect to 2,4-dinitrotrifluoromethoxybenzene vapors. When exposed to the nitroaromatic compound, a large and significative response is recorded for every tested porphyrin, the detection process being slightly reversible. Along with a good sensitivity, the sensors exhibit an excellent selectivity when common solvents are used as interfering vapors. Among all the studied derivatives, (OEP)MnCl appears as the most sensitive and selective coating.
Three-dimensional Finite Element simulations of mode I crack tip fields in Compact Tension specimens are presented for elastic ideally-plastic F.C.C. single crystals. The computations are carried out ...within the framework of classical continuum crystal plasticity for three crack orientations: (001)110,(110)001 and (001)100. The attention is drawn on the strong differences between the plastic strain field obtained at the free surface and in the mid-section of the specimens. The results are compared, on the one hand, to analytical solutions for stationary cracks in single crystals under plane strain conditions and, on the other hand, to experimental tests on a single crystal nickel-based superalloy at room temperature. For this material, both octahedral and cube slip must be taken into account. A good agreement between experimental observations and numerical results is found in the structure of the strain localization bands observed at the free surface of (110)001 cracked specimens. In particular, the evidence of kink banding near the crack tip is provided, confirmed by EBSD orientation mapping. The measured values of local lattice rotation are in agreement with the Finite Element prediction.

In this article we show that, without any technological modification, an acoustic firmness sensor used for estimating fruits firmness, can also be used in order to discriminate between different ...apple varieties. A repetability and reproducibility (R&R) analysis shows that the device is capable to measure not just the mass and the resonance frequency of fruits but also some other key spectral characteristics as well. Thus, 18 key features were identified and used for the classification of apples belonging to 10 different varieties. The prospects of this study are interesting in the context of sorting automatically fruits.
Les « tiges de mil » et les « pattes du héron » sont l’image du désarroi. Celui qui, dans l’un des poèmes tamouls étudiés ici, saisit la poétesse quand elle se rend compte qu’elle n’est pas un objet ...d’amour pour l’homme qui lui a promis le mariage, mais une proie pour un séducteur. Une image qui convient parfaitement au poème, à la fois aimé et trahi par son traducteur. Comment illustrer dans la traduction française le champ de liberté que représente le champ de mil ? Comment transmettre au lecteur le choc de la désillusion, provoqué dans l’original par la superposition des tiges élancées du mil et des longues pattes du héron ? Comment rendre en français cette apparition paradoxale, imaginaire et réelle, qui fait éclater la vérité comme un coup de théâtre ? Existe-t-il un type de difficultés spécifiques à la traduction des poésies orientales ? Quelles solutions les traducteurs de langues orientales peuvent-il apporter au dilemme de la traduction ? Pour tenter de répondre à ce type de questions, il était nécessaire d’organiser les conditions d’un dialogue entre des praticiens de la traduction, spécialistes de langues et cultures orientales, et des spécialistes issus de différents domaines des sciences humaines (sociologie, histoire, littérature comparée, théorie de la littérature, esthétique, traductologie, etc.). Le présent ouvrage constitue le premier volume des actes de la recherche « Lire et traduire les poésies orientales » (2005-2012). Il traite principalement des poésies de langues extrême-orientales (chinois, coréen, japonais, vietnamien) et des poésies de langues indiennes (bengali, gujarati, kannada, malayalam, panjabi, sanskrit, tamoul, télougou).
Continuous cardiac index (CI) monitoring is frequently used in critically ill patients. Few studies have compared the pulse contour-based device FloTrac/Vigileo^sup ^ to pulmonary artery ...thermodilution (PAC) in terms of accuracy for CI monitoring in septic shock. The aim of our study was to compare the third-generation FloTrac/Vigileo^sup ^ to PAC in septic shock. Eighteen patients with septic shock requiring monitoring by PAC were included in this study. We monitored CI using both FloTrac/Vigileo^sup ^ and continuous thermodilution (PAC-CI). Hemodynamic data were recorded every hour or every 2 min during fluid challenges. The primary endpoint was the global agreement of all CI-paired measurements determined using the Bland-Altman method adapted to replicated data. We tested the linearity of the bias by regression analysis, and compared the reactivity of the 2 techniques during fluid challenges. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis tested the ability of FloTrac/Vigileo^sup ^ to detect concordant and significative CI changes, using PAC-CI as the reference method. Overall, 1,201 paired CI measurements were recorded. The Bland-Altman analysis for global agreement of the 2 techniques showed a bias of -0.1 ± 2.1 L min^sup -1^ m^sup -2^ and a percentage error of 64 %. The overall correlation coefficient between PAC-CI and FloTrac/Vigileo^sup ^ CI was 0.47 (p < 0.01), with r^sup 2^ = 0.22. The area under the curve of the ROC curve for detecting concordant and significant changes in CI was 0.72 (0.53; 0.87). In our study, third-generation Flowtrac-Vigileo^sup ^ appears to be too inaccurate to be recommended for CI monitoring in septic shock.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Mechanical stress in damascene copper/low-k interconnects has been studied by means of micro-rotating sensors embedded in chips and directly integrated in CMOS process flow. A new hinge sensor design ...has been elaborated and a new analytical model of the mechanical equilibrium of sensors is validated. These sensors allow the study of the average residual stress as a function of the line width in a range from few hundred nanometers to several microns. It was found that the residual stress increases from 290 to 850
MPa in, respectively, 2 and 0.25
μm wide lines. This trend shows a yield stress increase with the line width reduction. Copper grains microstructure change between large and narrow lines is probably one of the reasons for yield stress and so residual stress increase. This microstructure change has been observed by means of Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) observations.

Methods and Results:
Tandem repeat motifs of 3–6 bp were searched using a simple sequence repeat (SSR)–pipeline package in coding portions of the date palm draft genome sequence. Fifteen loci produced highly consistent amplification, intraspecific polymorphisms, and stepwise mutation patterns.

These microsatellite loci showed sufficient levels of variability and transferability to make them useful for population genetic, selection signature, and interspecific gene flow studies in
Phoenix
and other Coryphoideae genera.
