An improved measurement of the decay $B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-$ and searches for the decays $B^0$ → $μ^+μ^+$ and $B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-γ$ are performed at the LHCb experiment using data collected in proton-proton ...collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7, 8 and 13 TeV. corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1, 2 and 6 fb-1, respectively. The $B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-$ branching fraction and effective lifetime are measured to be $\mathscr{B}$($B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-$) = (3.09$^{(+0.46+0.15)}_{(-0.43-0.11)}$) x 10-9 and $τ(B^0_s →μ^+μ^-)$ = (2.07 ± 0.29 ± 0.03) ps, respectively, where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic contributions. No significant signal for $B^0$ → $μ^+μ^-$ and $B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-γ$ decays is found and the upper limits $\mathscr{B}$($B^0$ → $μ^+μ^-$) < 2.6 x 10-10 and $B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-γ$ < 2.0 x 10-9 at 95% confidence level are determined, where the latter is limited to the range $m_{μμ}$ > 4.9 GeV/c2. Additionally, the ratio between the $B^0$ → $μ^+μ^-$ and $B^0_S$ → $μ^+μ^-$ branching fractions is measured to be $\mathscr{R}_{μ+μ-}$ < 0.095 at 95% confidence level. The results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions.

Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations are presented of vibrational dynamics and spectra of crystal HCl hydrates. Depending on the composition, the hydrates include distinct protonated water forms, ...which in their equilibrium structures approximate either the Eigen ion H3O+(H2O)3 (in the hexahydrate) or the Zundel H2O···H+···OH2 ion (in the di- and trihydrate). Thus, the hydrates offer the opportunity to study spectra and dynamics of distinct species of protonated water trapped in a semirigid solvating environment. The experimentally measured spectra are reproduced quite well by BLYP/DZVP-level calculations employing Fourier transform of the system dipole. The large overall width (800−1000 cm-1) of structured proton bands reflects a broad range of solvating environments generated by crystal vibrations. The aqueous HCl solution was also examined in search of an objective criterion for separating the contributions of “Zundel-like” and “Eigen-like” protonated forms. It is suggested that no such criterion exists since distributions of proton-related structural properties appear continuous and unimodal. Dipole derivatives with respect to OH and O···H+ stretches in water and protonated water were also investigated to advance the understanding of the corresponding IR intensities. The effects of H bonding and solvation on the intensities were analyzed with the help of the Wannier centers' representation of electron density.

CCL18 was profoundly upregulated in ruptured human atherosclerotic plaque, particularly within macrophages. Repeated administration of CCL18 in Western-type diet-fed
mice or PCSK9
-overexpressing wild type (WT) mice led to increased plaque burden, enriched in CD3
T cells. In subsequent experimental and molecular modeling studies, we identified CCR6 as a functional receptor mediating CCL18 chemotaxis, intracellular Ca
flux, and downstream signaling in human Jurkat and mouse T cells. CCL18 failed to induce these effects
in murine spleen T cells with CCR6 deficiency. The ability of CCR6 to act as CCL18 receptor was confirmed
in an inflammation model, where subcutaneous CCL18 injection induced profound focal skin inflammation in WT but not in
mice. This inflammation featured edema and marked infiltration of various leukocyte subsets, including T cells with a Th17 signature, supporting CCR6's role as a Th17 chemotactic receptor. Notably, focal overexpression of CCL18 in plaques was associated with an increased presence of CCR6
(T) cells.
Our studies are the first to identify the CCL18/CCR6 axis as a regulator of immune responses in advanced murine and human atherosclerosis.
Type II isoforms of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase A (PKA-II) contain a phosphorylatable epitope within the inhibitory domain of RII subunits (pRII) with still unclear ...function. In vitro, RII phosphorylation occurs in the absence of cAMP, whereas staining of cells with pRII-specific antibodies revealed a cAMP-dependent pattern. In sensory neurons, we found that increased pRII immunoreactivity reflects increased accessibility of the already phosphorylated RII epitope during cAMP-induced opening of the tetrameric RII
:C
holoenzyme. Accordingly, induction of pRII by cAMP was sensitive to novel inhibitors of dissociation, whereas blocking catalytic activity was ineffective. Also in vitro, cAMP increased the binding of pRII antibodies to RII
:C
holoenzymes. Identification of an antibody specific for the glycine-rich loop of catalytic subunits facing the pRII-epitope confirmed activity-dependent binding with similar kinetics, proving that the reassociation is rapid and precisely controlled. Mechanistic modeling further supported that RII phosphorylation precedes cAMP binding and controls the inactivation by modulating the reassociation involving the coordinated action of phosphodiesterases and phosphatases.

The DESY II Test Beam Facility is a key infrastructure for modern high energy physics detector development, providing particles with a small momentum spread in a range from 1 to 6GeV to user groups ...e.g. from the LHC experiments and Belle II as well as generic detector R&D. Beam telescopes are provided in all three test beam areas as precise tracking reference without time stamping, with triggered readout and a readout time of > 115 μs . If the highest available rates are used, multiple particles are traversing the telescopes within one readout frame, thus creating ambiguities that cannot be resolved without additional timing layers. Several upgrades are currently investigated and tested: Firstly, a fast monolithic pixel sensor, the TelePix, to provide precise track timing and triggering on a region of interest is proposed to overcome this limitation. The TelePix is a 180nm HV-CMOS sensor that has been developed jointly by DESY, KIT and the University of Heidelberg and designed at KIT. In this publication, the performance evaluation is presented: The difference between two amplifier designs is evaluated. A high hit detection efficiency of above 99.9% combined with a time resolution of below 4ns at negligible pixel noise rates is determined. Finally, the digital hit output to provide region of interest triggering is evaluated and shows a short absolute delay with respect to a traditional trigger scintillator as well as an excellent time resolution. Secondly, a fast LGAD plane has been proposed to provide a time resolution of a few 10 ps, which is foreseen to drastically improve the timing performance of the telescope. Time resolutions of below 70 ps have been determined in collaboration with the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Abstract Managing wildlife populations in the face of global change requires regular data on the abundance and distribution of wild animals, but acquiring these over appropriate spatial scales in a ...sustainable way has proven challenging. Here we present the data from Snapshot USA 2020, a second annual national mammal survey of the USA. This project involved 152 scientists setting camera traps in a standardized protocol at 1485 locations across 103 arrays in 43 states for a total of 52,710 trap‐nights of survey effort. Most (58) of these arrays were also sampled during the same months (September and October) in 2019, providing a direct comparison of animal populations in 2 years that includes data from both during and before the COVID‐19 pandemic. All data were managed by the eMammal system, with all species identifications checked by at least two reviewers. In total, we recorded 117,415 detections of 78 species of wild mammals, 9236 detections of at least 43 species of birds, 15,851 detections of six domestic animals and 23,825 detections of humans or their vehicles. Spatial differences across arrays explained more variation in the relative abundance than temporal variation across years for all 38 species modeled, although there are examples of significant site‐level differences among years for many species. Temporal results show how species allocate their time and can be used to study species interactions, including between humans and wildlife. These data provide a snapshot of the mammal community of the USA for 2020 and will be useful for exploring the drivers of spatial and temporal changes in relative abundance and distribution, and the impacts of species interactions on daily activity patterns. The eROSITA telescope array aboard the Spektrum Roentgen Gamma (SRG) satellite began surveying the sky in December 2019, with the aim of producing all-sky X-ray source lists and sky maps of an ...unprecedented depth. Here we present catalogues of both point-like and extended sources using the data acquired in the first six months of survey operations (eRASS1; completed June 2020) over the half sky whose proprietary data rights lie with the German eROSITA Consortium. We describe the observation process, the data analysis pipelines, and the characteristics of the X-ray sources. With nearly 930 000 entries detected in the most sensitive 0.2–2.3 keV energy range, the eRASS1 main catalogue presented here increases the number of known X-ray sources in the published literature by more than 60%, and provides a comprehensive inventory of all classes of X-ray celestial objects, covering a wide range of physical processes. A smaller catalogue of 5466 sources detected in the less sensitive but harder 2.3–5 keV band is the result of the first true imaging survey of the entire sky above 2 keV. We present methods to identify and flag potential spurious sources in the catalogues, which we applied for this work, and we tested and validated the astrometric accuracy via cross-comparison with other X-ray and multi-wavelength catalogues. We show that the number counts of X-ray sources in eRASSl are consistent with those derived over narrower fields by past X-ray surveys of a similar depth, and we explore the number counts variation as a function of the location in the sky. , we estimate that the eROSITA all-sky survey resolves into individual sources about 20% of the cosmic X-ray background in the 1–2 keV range. The catalogues presented here form part of the first data release (DR1) of the SRG/eROSITA all-sky survey. Beyond the X-ray catalogues, DR1 contains all detected and calibrated event files, source products (light curves and spectra), and all-sky maps. Illustrative examples of these are provided.
Aims. We introduce the TELAMON program which is using the Effelsberg 100-m telescope to monitor the radio spectra of active galactic nuclei (AGN) under scrutiny in astroparticle physics, specifically ...TeV blazars and candidate neutrino-associated AGN. Here, we present and characterize our main sample of TeV-detected blazars. Methods. We analyzed the data sample from the first ∼2.5 yr of observations between August 2020 and February 2023 in the range from 14 GHz to 45 GHz. During this pilot phase, we observed all 59 TeV-detected blazars in the Northern Hemisphere (i.e., Dec > 0°) known at the time of observation. We discuss the basic data reduction and calibration procedures used for all TELAMON data and introduce a sub-band averaging method used to calculate average light curves for the sources in our sample. Results. The TeV-selected sources in our sample exhibit a median flux density of 0.12 Jy at 20 mm, 0.20 Jy at 14 mm, and 0.60 Jy at 7 mm. The spectrum for most of the sources is consistent with a flat radio spectrum and we found a median spectral index ( S ( ν )∝ ν α ) of α = −0.11. Our results on flux density and spectral index are consistent with previous studies of TeV-selected blazars. Compared to the GeV-selected F-GAMMA sample, TELAMON sources are significantly fainter in the radio band. This is consistent with the double-humped spectrum of blazars being shifted towards higher frequencies for TeV-emitters (in particular for high-synchrotron peaked BL Lac type objects), which results in a lower radio flux density. The spectral index distribution of our TeV-selected blazar sample is not significantly different from the GeV-selected F-GAMMA sample. Moreover, we present a strategy to track the light curve evolution of sources in our sample for future variability and correlation analysis.
