The paper aims to determine the interdependence between quality ratings and the level of satisfaction of Rijeka’s inhabitants with the city’s public urban transport system. The purpose of the study ...is to identify the effects that the individual elements of citizens’ satisfaction with public urban transport services have on public urban transport quality ratings. To accomplish the study’s objective and purpose, and to prove the main hypothesis that there is a statistically strong and positive relationship between quality ratings and satisfaction with public urban transport, numerous scientific methods have been applied, in particular the survey method, the method of analysis and synthesis, and the methods of descriptive and inferential statistics. The study’s main finding points to the low quality of Rijeka’s public urban transport system and to the low level of satisfaction of citizens with the system. A statistically strong and positive relationship was found between quality ratings and the satisfaction of citizens with public urban transport services. Citizens are the least satisfied with the frequency of public transport intensity and the availability of urban transport in evening.

Competitiveness of local small entrepreneurs in tourist destinations which operate in the global business environment will increasingly depend on the ability to co-operate and form partnerships on the local level. Competitiveness of any tourist destination in relation to others will in the future depoend on the effectiveness of its tourist clusters. The main aim of this paper is to show how can tourism cluster of small entrepreneurs be possible model for small entrepreneurship development in tourist destinations in Croatia and how it can increase its competitiveness (case of Labin-Rabac tourist destination). The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the importance of clustering in the tourism sector, and highlight key advantages and benefits of establishing tourist cluster for its cluster members and tourist destination. Basic hypotesis: pooling of small entrepreneurs into tourism clusters is the base of the most efficient way to achieve future development of tourist destinations in order to achieve more competitive tourism.
Organizational culture and job satisfaction are the most important factors for any university. Research into how satisfied professors are with university culture is crucial in finding ways to ...increase job satisfaction in the present as well as the future. The aim of our study is to investigate whether the type of organizational culture has any effect on job satisfaction and whether there are any differences between Serbia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The study was conducted on 489 professors at universities and colleges in Serbia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The study shows that university professors in the three investigated countries have a moderate level of job satisfaction. The case study method was used. The data collection technique applied was a survey conducted among university professors. The survey was conducted electronically, via Google Forms, and the key instrument was a questionnaire. The data were processed using SPSS Statistics 21. The results of the study show that improving perceived organizational support can increase the level of job satisfaction of university professors. It is also very important to emphasize the importance and originality of this study since similar studies have not been conducted before in the three countries mentioned.
Središte pristupa u provedenom istraživanju predstavlja veći stupanj odgovornosti lokalnih vlasti grada Rijeke koja je u ingerenciji povećanja prvenstveno kvalitete i dostupnosti, a zatim i ostalih ...važnih karakteristika javnih usluga za sve građane grada, na način da osnaži ulogu svih dionika društva u definiranju, kreiranju, a onda provođenju takvih lokalnih politika koje će poboljšati javne usluge i povećati kvalitetu života građana te kreiranje SWOT matrice kao jedan od instrumenata za budući gospodarski i društveni razvoj grada Rijeke. Podaci su prikupljani tehnikom anketiranja, a znanstvena metodologija počiva na prikupljanju i analizi subjektivnih stavova građana. Rezultati deskriptivne analize pokazali su nezadovoljstvo korisnika/građana javnim uslugama. Rezultati kvalitativne analitičke metode pokazali su da su vizija i buduće razvojne strategije i brendiranja grada Rijeke i PGŽ kao ključne stavke, istaknute kao najveća slabost za budući gospodarski i društveni razvoj grada. Provedeno istraživanje pridonijelo je lakšem razumijevanju stavova o javnim uslugama iz čega proizlaze prijedlozi temeljem kojih gradska vlast i javne politike mogu bolje percipirati aktualno stanje i rezultate u vezi s javnim uslugama te porasta odgovornosti jedinica lokalne uprave i samouprave u poboljšanju kvalitete života građana, usklađivanjem s prijedlozima korisnika, a SWOT matrica poslužila je kao podloga za buduću izradu lokalnih strategija gospodarskog i društvenog rasta i razvoja. Istraživanje doprinosi osnaživanju Plana razvoja grada Rijeke od 2021. do 2027. g.
The heart of the approach of the conducted research is a greater level of responsibility of the local government of the city of Rijeka which includes the increase, primarily, of the quality and the availability, and then of other important characteristics of public services for all the citizens of Rijeka, in such a way as to strengthen the role of all the members of society in defining, creating and then implementing such local policies which will improve public services and increase the quality of life of the citizens; and creating a SWOT matrix as one of the instruments for a future economic and social development of the city of Rijeka. The data were collected by polling, while the methodology is based on gathering and analysis of the subjective opinions of the citizens. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that the users/citizens are dissatisfied with public services. The results of the qualitative analysis showed that the vision and future development strategies and the branding of the city of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski kotar County were key points, and they were considered the greatest weaknesses for a future economic and social development of the city. The carried out research led to a better understanding of the opinions regarding public services, which led to a series of suggestions based on which the city government can have and public policies can be made with a better perception of the current state and the performance of public services which then increases the responsibility of the units of local government and self-government to improve the quality of life of the citizens by accommodating the suggestions of the users, while the SWOT matrix served as the basis for a future draft of local strategies of economic and social development. The research contributes to the strengthening of the Development Plan of the City of Rijeka from 2021 to 2027.
Sagledavajući odnos prema komunalnoj infrastrukturi i okolišu u Republici Hrvatskoj, Grad Rijeka nalazi se na zavidnoj, vrlo visokoj razini čime doprinosi cjelokupnom komunalnom gospodarstvu države. ...Najveći su izazov, unatoč tomu, područja koja obuhvaćaju komunalnu higijenu grada, odlaganje smeća i cjelokupni sustav prikupljanja otpada koji nije sasvim riješen ni na nacionalnoj razini. Cilj rada jest istražiti zadovoljstvo komunalnom higijenom u Rijeci, a svrha rada determinirati čimbenike koje izravno i bitno utječu na stupanj zadovoljstva građana komunalnom higijenom grada. Podaci za potrebe ove znanstvene rasprave
prikupljeni su metodom anketiranja (n=403), a obrađeni su metodama analize i sinteze te metodama deskriptivne i inferencijalne statistike. Glavni nalaz ovoga rada upućuje na nisku razinu zadovoljstva anketiranih građana komunalnom higijenom grada (M=2,4; SD=0,97). U cilju povećanja razine zadovoljstva građana komunalnom higijenom grada nužno je značajno unaprijediti kvalitetu usluga komunalnog poduzeća (M=2,23; SD=1,01) i kulturu građana u odlaganju otpada (M=1,81; SD=0,85).
Manager’s individual ethical behavior has long been associated with personal values. This study examines the relationship between personal values based on the Schwartz theory of personal values and ...ethical behavior, presenting the results of empirical research on personal value systems and ethical/unethical behavior of the top management in the large hotel companies in Croatia. It was found that personal values in personal value systems of universalism, benevolence, tradition, conformism, security and independence are positively and significantly correlated with ethical behavior, whereas universal values in personal value systems of power, achievement, hedonism and incentive are negatively and significantly correlated with ethical behavior.
The research subject of this paper is the satisfaction of the citizens of Rijeka with higher education as a public service. The papers aims to a) determine the elements of the construct of citizen ...satisfaction with higher education as a public service and identify opportunities to enhance citizen satisfaction, that is, raise it to a considerably higher level, and b) to contribute to the creation of higher-education policies in modern circumstances to ensure that all members of society are satisfied with this public service. Research starts from the main hypothesis that most of Rijeka's citizens are satisfied with higher education as a public service. Auxiliary hypotheses are also formulated. The main and auxiliary hypotheses are tested using descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, the t-test and variance analysis (ANOVA). The main conclusion of this paper is that the satisfaction of Rijeka's citizens with the quality of services provided by higher education is above average, in particular with the availability of occupations provided by the various types of faculties. On the other hand, the citizens of Rijeka are dissatisfied with the ties between businesses (employers) and the academic community, and with the low degree to which jobs are ensured for top students. Statistically significant differences, with regard to the level of satisfaction with higher education as a public service, are evident among citizens with different educational backgrounds.

Etičko ponašanje postaje faktor strategijskih prednosti i uspješnog poslovanja a najviše poslovodstvo u procesu strateškog menadžmenta postaje odgovorno za stvaranje pretpostavki za primjenu i ...provođenje visokih etičkih principa u poduzeće. Od najvišeg poslovodstva u hotelijerstvu se očekuje veća etička svijest u odnosu na druge djelatnosti, kao i jača sposobnost da sude o etičkim pitanjima s obzirom da hotelska industrija obuhvaća veliki spektar uvjerenja i etički prihvatljivog ponašanja. Zbog toga je naglašena i povećana potreba hotelskih poduzeća da implementiraju poslovnu etiku na odgovorniji način u funkciji stvaranja pozitivne etičke kulture i klime te generiranja povećane dobiti kroz produktivnost i moral zaposlenih. Etičko ponašanje najvišega poslovodstva pritom je pod utjecajem različitih osobnih vrijednosti pojedinaca koje čine sastavni dio njihova kulturološkoga sklopa no uloga koju sustavi osobnih vrijednosti imaju za etičko/neetičko ponašanje kao i veza između etičkoga ponašanja najvišega poslovodstva i poslovanja velikih hotelskih poduzeća, manje je jasna, što u kontekstu navedene problematike predstavlja problem istraživanja ove doktorske disertacije.
U svrhu ispitivanja međuzavisnosti osobnih vrijednosti i etičkoga ponašanja najvišeg poslovodstva sa poslovanjem velikih hotelskih poduzeća u Republici Hrvatskoj (RH) provedeno je empirijsko istraživanje putem anketnog upitnika, a čiji je cilj istraživanja bio procijeniti važnost terminalnih i instrumentalnih vrijednosti najvišeg poslovodstva, spoznati koje vrijednosti pokreću i usmjeravaju najviše poslovodstvo na etičko/neetičko ponašanje te utvrditi u kakvoj su korelaciji osobne vrijednosti i etičko ponašanje najvišeg poslovodstva sa pokazateljima uspješnosti velikih hotelskih poduzeća u RH.
Dobiveni rezultati potvrđuju da postoji pozitivna veza između osobnih sustava vrijednosti s etičkim ponašanjem najvišeg poslovodstva te etičkoga ponašanja najvišeg poslovodstva i pokazatelja uspješnosti poslovanja. Sukladno provedenom istraživanju dobiveni rezultati su potvrdili znanstvenu hipotezu doktorske disertacije: „Osobe, u najvišem poslovodstvu velikih hotelskih poduzeća u RH, koje odabiru etički tijek ponašanja dugoročno postižu bolje poslovne rezultate od onih osoba u najvišem poslovodstvu koje odabiru neetički tijek ponašanja.“ Slaba ili srednje jaka korelacija u istraživanju između promatranih varijabli (osobne vrijednosti – etičko ponašanje; etičko ponašanje – pokazatelji uspješnosti poslovanja) pokazuje međutim da na stupanj etičkog ponašanja utječu i drugi faktori, dakle ne isključivo osobni sustavi vrijednosti, te da na uspješnost poslovanja također utječu i drugi faktori, a ne isključivo etičko ponašanje. Za buduća istraživanja bilo bi stoga značajno istražiti koji su to još drugi faktori koji utječu na etičko ponašanje i uspješnost poslovanja.
Na temelju svih znanstvenih spoznaja, autorica predlaže model implementacije poslovne etike u velika hotelska poduzeća u RH.
Ova doktorska disertacija pridonosi postojećoj literaturi o interferentnosti strateškog menadžmenta sa poslovnom etikom. Znanstveni doprinos istraživanja u teorijskom i u praktično – aplikativnom smislu pruža valjanu i pouzdanu osnovu za kreiranje vlastitih moralnih sustava i moćnih alata najvišeg poslovodstva u procesu strateškog menadžmenta kojima će pružiti osnovni okvir za dozvoljeno i nedozvoljeno ponašanje u funkciji poboljšanja uspješnosti poslovanja.

Ethical behaviour is becoming a factor of strategic advantage and business success, and top management is assuming responsibility for enabling the implementation of high ethical principles in their organisations. As the hospitality industry encompasses a wide spectrum of views and ethically acceptable behaviours, hotel top management is now expected to show a higher degree of ethics awareness, as well as better judgement on ethical issues. This leads to a more pronounced need for hotel organisations to implement business ethics in a more responsible way in order to create a positive culture of ethics and an ethical climate, as well as generate increased profits through employee productivity and morale. Top management's ethical behaviour is influenced by varied personal values that are an intrinsic part of an individual's cultural makeup, but the role that personal value systems have in ethical/unethical behaviours, as well as the relationship between top management's ethical behaviour and large hotel organisations' business success, are less clear, and comprise the topic of this doctoral thesis.
In order to examine the relationship between personal values and ethical behaviour of top management, and large Croatian hotel organisations' business success, questionnaire-based empirical research was carried out, with the aim of assessing the importance of top management’s terminal and instrumental values, learning which values impel and direct top management towards ethical/non-ethical behaviours, as well as determine what correlation there is between top management's personal values and ethical behaviour, and business success indicators, at large Croatian hotel organisations.
The results of the research confirm a positive correlation between top management’s personal value systems and ethical behaviours on one hand, and top management’s ethical behaviour and business success indicators on the other. These results have confirmed the scientific hypothesis of the doctoral dissertation, stating that: “Members of large Croatian hotel organisations' top level management who choose ethical behaviours achieve better business results in the long term than those who choose unethical behaviours.“ However, the weak or medium-strong correlation between the variables compared (personal values – ethical behaviours; ethical behaviours – business success indicators) shows that the degree of ethical behaviour is also affected by factors other than personal value systems, and that business success is also affected by factors other than ethical behaviour. Future research should therefore examine which other factors affect ethical behaviour and business success.
On the basis of the scientific insights available, the author proposes a model of implementing business ethics in large Croatian businesses.
