This study investigates the relationship between ergonomic risk exposures and insomnia symptoms, using data representative of Korea's general working population.
Data from the 5th Korean Working ...Conditions Survey were used for this study. The eligible population (employees) for the current study was 37,026. Insomnia symptoms were estimated using the minimal insomnia symptom scale (MISS) questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore the association between ergonomic risks and insomnia symptoms.
All the investigated ergonomic risks increased odd ratios (ORs) for insomnia symptoms: Tiring or painful positions (OR, 1.64; 95% CI, 1.43-1.88); lifting or moving heavy loads (OR, 2.33; 95% CI, 1.99-2.71); long periods of standing (OR, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.29-1.69); and repetitive hand or arm movements (OR, 1.46; 95% CI, 1.29-1.67). The mediated proportion of musculoskeletal pain was 7.4% (95% CI, 5.81-10.13), and the mediated proportion of feeling of exhaustion was 17.5% (95% CI, 5.81-10.13).
This study provides evidence for the relationship between ergonomic risks and insomnia symptoms, for which musculoskeletal pains and the feeling of exhaustion may be potential mediators.
Social jetlag, which is the mismatch between endogenous rhythm and social timing, is prevalent among the working population. Social jetlag may result in mood changes; however, evidence of ...relationship between social jetlag and depressive disorders has not been fully verified. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the association between social jetlag and depressive symptoms in a representative working population of South Korea.
This study included 5447 Korean employees in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Social jetlag was calculated as the difference between the midpoint of sleep time on weekdays and free days. Depressive symptoms were assessed using Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Multiple logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratio after adjusting for confounding factors. Moreover, social jetlag and continuous depression scores were evaluated using linear regression and generalized additive models.
The proportion of the participants who had >2 h of social jetlag was 10.26 %. Depressive symptoms increased as social jetlag increased. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the adjusted OR (95 % confidence interval) for 1 to 2 h of social jetlag was 1.355 (0.891–2.059) and for >2 h was 1.859 (1.084–3.187), which <1 h was reference.
This study used a cross-sectional design and measurements were based on self-reported scales.

This study included 8259 working population in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2016–2018. Social jetlag was calculated as the difference between the midpoint of sleep time on work day and work-free day. Five-point Likert scale of SRH was used to assess subjective health perception on general health conditions. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence interval (CI) for poor SRH in the 1–2 h or longer than 2 h social jetlag groups compared to that in the reference group (less than 1 h), after adjusting for age, sex, marital status, occupation, household income, and weekly working hours.
The proportions of those with <1 h, 1–2 h, >2 h of social jetlag were 63.80 %, 25.67 %, and 10.53 %, respectively. The risk of poor SRH increased as social jetlag increased. Greater social jetlag was significantly associated with an increased likelihood of reporting poor SRH. The adjusted ORs for the groups with social jetlag between 1 and <2 h, and >2 h were 1.100 (95 % CI = 0.935–1.295), and 1.503 (95 % CI = 1.097–1.727), respectively. Moreover, the OR trend was statistically significant (p for trend = 0.008).
This study found that social jetlag and poor SRH were significantly related in the Korean working population.
•Social jetlag is a circadian misalignment that arises from a discrepancy between activity/sleep schedules on school/work days and free days.•This study showed that social jetlag was significantly associated with poor self-rated health in a representative working population in South Korea.•This suggests that the risk of poor self-rated health occurs even in individuals without major health disorders when their endogenous rhythm and social timing are misaligned.•Therefore, it is necessary to develop measures that enable workers to control their working hours according to their health status and personal preferences.

that may have resulted from reassortment events. Using next-generation RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), we found that the ratios of the RNA levels of the 10 reovirus segments in infected cells were constant during the late stages of infection. We also discovered that the relative abundance of each segment differed. Notably, the relative abundance of M2 (encoding the µ1 protein) and S4 (encoding the σ3 protein) RNAs was higher than that of the others throughout the infection. Additionally, massive junctions were identified. These results support the hypothesis that defective genome segments are generated and that cross-family recombination occurs. These data may further the study of gene function, viral replication, and virus evolution.
Although endoscopic ultrasound-guided celiac neurolysis (EUS-CN) and percutaneous celiac neurolysis (PCN) are utilized to manage intractable pain in pancreatic cancer patients, no direct comparison ...has been made between the two methods. We compared the efficacy and safety of EUS-CN and PCN in managing intractable pain in such patients. Sixty pancreatic cancer patients with intractable pain were randomly assigned to EUS-CN (n = 30) or PCN (n = 30). The primary outcomes were pain reduction in numerical rating scale (NRS) and opioid requirement reduction. Secondary outcomes were: successful pain response (NRS decrease ≥50% or ≥3-point reduction from baseline); quality of life; patient satisfaction; adverse events; and survival rate at 3 months postintervention. Both groups reported sustained decreases in pain scores up to 3 months postintervention (mean reductions in abdominal pain: 0.9 (95% confidence interval (CI): −0.8 to 4.2) and 1.7 (95% CI: −0.3 to 2.1); back pain: 1.3 (95% CI: −0.9 to 3.4) and 2.5 (95% CI: −0.2 to 5.2) in EUS-CN, and PCN groups, respectively). The differences in mean pain scores between the two groups at baseline and 3 months were −0.5 (p = 0.46) and −1.4 (p = 0.11) for abdominal pain and 0.1 (p = 0.85) and −0.9 (p = 0.31) for back pain in favor of PCN. No significant differences were noted in opioid requirement reduction and other outcomes. EUS-CN and PCN were similarly effective and safe in managing intractable pain in pancreatic cancer patients. Either methods may be used depending on the resources and expertise of each institution.
The early-stage M23C6 morphology at the phase boundary between austenite and δ ferrite grain in Type 304L austenitic stainless steel was investigated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The ...M23C6 has coherency with austenite grains at phase boundary. The phase boundary between the M23C6 and austenite grains has curved appearance. The curved phase boundary might be a faceted interface composed of (111) plane and the other low-index planes on the atomic scale. The M23C6 morphology at the phase boundary was identified to be a complex pyramid-like shape that has {111}, {110} and {100} interfaces. The slight deviation in the angle measured between edges of carbide in the TEM images from that calculated between edges expected from the M23C6 morphology might be attributed to multilayer growth in the interior region of the M23C6 face.
Shaan virus (ShaV), a novel species of the genus Jeilongvirus, family Paramyxoviridae, was isolated from an insectivore bat (Miniopterus schreibersii) in Korea in 2016. ShaV particles contain a ...hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) glycoprotein in their envelope that allows the virus to target cells. Typically, diverse paramyxoviruses with HN glycoprotein are reported to interact predominantly with sialic acids, but there are no studies of receptors for ShaV. In this study, the identification of potential receptors for ShaV was demonstrated using sialidase treatments, glycan microarray, magnetic bead-based virus binding assay, and neuraminidase inhibitor treatments. Pretreatment of MARC-145 cells with sialidase, which cleaves α2,3-linked sialic acids, showed higher inhibition of viral infection than α2,6-linked-specific sialidase. These data were supported by the binding of ShaV to predominantly α2,3-linked sialylated glycans in the screening of sialyl linkage patterns through glycan microarray. To further confirm the direct interaction between ShaV and α2,3-linked sialic acids, ShaV was incubated with α2,3- or α2,6-linked sialylated glycans conjugated to magnetic beads, and binding signals were detected only for α2,3-linked sialylated glycans. In addition, the potential of sialic acids as a receptor was demonstrated by the viral replication inhibitory effect of the neuraminidase inhibitor 2,3-dehydro-2-deoxy-N-acetylneuraminicacid (DANA) in the mature virion release steps. Collectively, these results support that α2,3-linked sialic acids are the potential receptor for ShaV infection in MARC-145 cells. IMPORTANCE Bats host major mammalian paramyxoviruses, and novel paramyxoviruses are increasingly being reported around the world. Shaan virus (ShaV), from the genus Jeilongvirus, family Paramyxoviridae, has a potential attachment glycoprotein, HN. Here, we identify that ShaV binds to sialic acid and demonstrate that α2,3-linked sialic acids are the potential receptor for ShaV infection. The presented data regarding ShaV receptor specificity will enable studies into the viral tropism for the host and contribute to the development of new antiviral strategies targeting viral receptors.
The Shaan virus is a new paramyxovirus species recently isolated from an insectivorous bat. Therefore, its replication characteristics remain unclear. We used transcriptome analysis and molecular ...experiments to examine host cell responses in human A549, HEK293, and monkey MARC-145 cell lines infected with the Shaan virus (ShaV/B16-40). Transcriptome data showed that Shaan virus infection induced innate immune responses associated with defense mechanisms against viral infection in all infected host cells. In real-time RT-PCR, IFN-α, -β and -λ1 were significantly upregulated in response to infection with Shaan virus in A549 and HEK-293 cells. However, the expression of IFN-α and -λ1 did not change in MARC-145 infected cells, while IFN-β significantly increased compared to the control in all the infected cell lines. In DEG analysis, the viperin expression pattern by Shaan virus infection varied depending on the host cell types or their origins. Viperin was highly induced at the RNA level by Shaan virus infection, and viperin protein expression was detected by western blotting. Although viperin, an ISG, has broad inhibitory effects on a range of viral pathogens, viperin knockdown or knock-in in the infected cells indicated that this protein did not markedly affect Shaan virus replication. Interestingly, these effects were independent of CMPK2 expression, which is beneficial for the antiviral effects of viperin. Therefore, the present results suggest that Shaan virus might have a strategy to evade the antiviral effect of viperin or not be significantly affected by viperin.

For the application of a structural material to a core’s internals and a fuel cladding, the material should be evaluated in terms of its corrosion and stress corrosion cracking susceptibility. Stress corrosion cracking and general corrosion tests of ferritic–martensitic (F/M) steels, high Ni alloys and an oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloy were performed. Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) was not observed on the fractured surface of the T 91 steel in the supercritical water at 500, 550 and 600
°C. As the test temperature increased, the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield strength (YS) of T 91 decreased, and a high dissolved oxygen level induced corrosion and low ductility. The F/M steels showed a high corrosion rate whereas the Ni base alloys showed a little corrosion at 500 and 550
°C. Corrosion rate of the F/M steels at 600
°C test was up to three times larger than that at 500
°C. A thin layer composed of Mo and Ni seems to retard the Cr diffusion into the out layer of the corrosion product of T 92 and T 122.
Paeonia japonica, distributed throughout Asia, is a traditional medicinal herb in Korea, with many potential beneficial effects including pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer ...activities. Despite its high pharmacological value, the genetic information on Paeonia japonica remains limited. In this study, the chloroplast genome of P. japonica was sequenced using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology and genome and phylogeny were analyzed using multiple tools. The chloroplast genome of P. japonica was 152,731 bp in length with an inverted repeat region of 26,656 bp, including a large single-copy region of 84,389 bp and a small single copy region of 17,030 bp. The P. japonica chloroplast genome included 113 genes comprising 80 protein-coding genes, 27 tRNA, and 5 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that P. japonica and P. obovata share a close evolutionary relationship.
