In order to screen out the feeding ratio of high‐quality algae strains in Hyriopsis cumingii, this experiment investigated the effects of different ratio of mixed feeding of two algae strains ...(Scenedesmus dimorphus and Cyclotella sp.) on the growth, bead production performance, trace elements, and amino acid composition of the newborn shell of H. cumingii. The results showed that the mixed feeding of two types of microalgae with different densities had significant effects on the growth performance, bead production quality, trace elements, and amino acid composition of the newly formed shell of H. cumingii (p < 0.05); the best body weight gain rate and shell growth rate were obtained by feeding S. dimorphus (30 × 105 cell/mL) and Cyclopella sp.(8 × 105 cell/mL); the pearl weight gain rate, amino acid ratio, Ca2+ and Mn2+ content were best when feeding Cyclotella sp. (16 × 105 cell/mL), but there was no significant difference compared with S. dimorphus (30 × 105 cell/mL) and Cyclopella sp.(8 × 105 cell/mL). In summary, the optimal feeding amount for the intensive breeding process of H. cumingii is S. dimorphus (30 × 105 cell/mL) and Cyclopella sp. (8 × 105 cell/mL).

The larger individuals revealed better growth performance than smaller individuals, especially in terms of survival and specific growth rate, indicating that larger individuals were more receptive to frozen prey. Furthermore, size grading should be conducted to ensure better growth during weaning. To explore compliance with oral nutritional supplementation (ONS) and to identify the risk factors for noncompliance among gastric cancer patients based on the health belief model (HBM)
This ...prospective, observational study included gastric cancer patients at nutritional risk who were prescribed ONS from July to September 2020. Demographic factors, clinical factors, ONS-related factors, social factors and variables derived from the HBM were collected. The outcome of interest was compliance with ONS, which was measured by self-reported intake of ONS. Uni- and multivariate analyses of potential risk factors for noncompliance were performed.
A total of 162 gastric cancer patients in the preoperative and adjuvant chemotherapy periods were analyzed. The compliance rate with ONS was 24.7%. Univariate analysis identified thirteen variables as risk factors for decreased compliance. Multivariate logistic analysis indicated that ONS compliance was independently associated with the treatment period, perceived barriers to ONS, the motivation to take ONS, and the timing of taking ONS.
This study showed that overall ONS compliance among gastric cancer patients was notably low. Patients in the chemotherapy treatment period who took ONS at random times each day perceived more barriers to taking ONS and had a lower level of motivation were associated with lower compliance with ONS.
This study presents two optical frequency quadrupling techniques for generating high-purity millimeter-wave signals with optical carrier suppression. To our best knowledge, this investigation ...demonstrates for the first time that a frequency quadrupling system requires only a single integrated Mach-Zehnder modulator without an optical narrowband filter to remove undesired optical sidebands. Since no optical filter is needed, fast frequency tuning is straightforward and this approach is particularly attractive for the optical up-conversion in the wavelength-division-multiplexing radio-over-fiber systems. This study provides both theoretical analysis and experimental demonstration. The generated optical millimeter-wave signals are of very high quality with optical carrier and undesired harmonic distortion suppression ratio of more than 36 dB.
Objective New rationally designed i,i+7-hydrocarbon-stapled peptides that target both HIV-1 assembly and entry have been shown to have antiviral activity against HIV-1 subtypes circulating in Europe ...and North America. Here, we aimed to evaluate the antiviral activity of these peptides against HIV-1 subtypes predominantly circulating in China. Methods The antiviral activity of three i,i+7-hydrocarbon-stapled peptides, NYAD-36, NYAD-67, and NYAD-66, against primary HIV-1 CRF07_BC and CRFOI_AE isolates was evaluated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PI3MCs). The activity against the CRF07_BC and CRF01_AE Env-pseudotyped viruses was analyzed in TZM-bl cells. Results We found that all the stapled peptides were effective in inhibiting infection by all the primary HIV-1 isolates tested, with 50% inhibitory concentration toward viral replication (ICso) in the low micromolar range. NYAD-36 and NYAD-67 showed better antiviral activity than NYAD-66 did. We further evaluated the sensitivity of CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC Env-pseudotyped viruses to these stapled peptides in a single-cycle virus infectivity assay. As observed with the primary isolates, the ICs0s were in the low micromolar range, and NYAD-66 was less effective than NYAD-36 and NYAD-67. Conclusion Hydrocarbon-stapled peptides appear to have broad antiviral activity against the predominant HIV-1 viruses in China. This finding may provide the impetus to the rational design of peptides for future antiviral therapy.
Lamiophlomis rotata is an orally available Tibetan herb prescribed for the management of pain, with shanzhiside methylester (SM) and 8-O-acetyl-SM as quality control ingredients. This study aimed to ...evaluate the antinociceptive properties of L. rotata, determine whether SM and 8-O-acetyl-SM are principle effective ingredients, and explore whether L. rotata produces antinociception through activation of spinal glucagon-like peptide-1 receptors (GLP-1Rs).
Formalin test, neuropathic pain, and bone cancer pain models were used, and the animal sample size was 5 to 6 in each group. Hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative damage was also assayed.
The L. rotata aqueous extract blocked formalin-induced tonic hyperalgesia and peripheral nerve injury- and bone cancer-induced mechanical allodynia by 50 to 80%, with half-effective doses of 130 to 250 mg/kg, close to the human dosage. The herb was not effective in alleviating acute nociceptive pain. A 7-day gavage with L. rotata aqueous extract did not lead to antiallodynic tolerance. Total iridoid glycosides, rather than total flavonoids, were identified by the activity-tracking method as effective ingredients for antihyperalgesia, whereas both SM and 8-O-acetyl-SM were principal components. Further demonstrations using the GLP-1R antagonist and gene silencer against GLP-1R at both the spinal and the cellular levels indicated that L. rotata inhibited pain hyperactivity by activation of spinal GLP-1Rs, and SM and 8-O-acetyl-SM appeared to be orthosteric, reversible, and fully intrinsic agonists of both rat and human GLP-1Rs.
Results support the notion that the activation of spinal GLP-1Rs leads to specific antinociception in pain hypersensitivity and further suggest that GLP-1R is a human-validated target molecule for the treatment of chronic pain.

The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that thoracic skin nerve activity (SKNA) can be used to estimate SGNA.
We recorded SGNA and SKNAs using surface electrocardiogram leads in 5 anesthetized and 4 ambulatory dogs. Apamin injected into the right stellate ganglion abruptly increased both right SGNA and SKNA in 5 anesthetized dogs. We integrated nerve activities and averaged heart rate in each 1-minure window over 10 minutes. We implanted a radiotransmitter to record left SGNA in 4 ambulatory dogs (2 normal, 1 with myocardial infarction, 1 with intermittent rapid atrial pacing). After 2 weeks of recovery, we simultaneously recorded the SKNA and left SGNA continuously for 30 minutes when the dogs were ambulatory.
There was a positive correlation average r = 0.877, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.732-1.000, P <.05 for each dog between integrated skin nerve activity (iSKNA) and SGNA (iSGNA) and between iSKNA and heart rate (average r = 0.837, 95% CI 0.752-0.923, P <.05). Similar to that found in the anesthetized dogs, there was a positive correlation (average r = 0.746, 95% CI 0.527-0.964, P <.05) between iSKNA and iSGNA and between iSKNA and heart rate (average r = 0.706, 95% CI 0.484-0.927, P <.05).
SKNAs can be used to estimate SGNA in dogs.
Optimal nutrition formulas for colorectal cancer patients underwent surgery remains uncertainty. We constructed an indirect comparison study to assess comparative efficacy of different ...immunonutrition formulas and standard nutrition in colorectal cancer patients underwent surgery. PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, ClinicalTrials.gov and Web of Science databases were searched to identify RCTs that compared immunonutrition with standard nutrition or different immunonutrition formulas. Data on length of hospital stays (LOS), infectious complications (IC), noninfectious complications (NIC) and anastomotic leakage (AL) were extracted from the included RCTs for Bayesian network analysis using a random-effect model. Twelve articles that included 1032 individuals were incorporated into this study. The indirect comparison confirmed the potential improvement of arginine-based immunonutrition on IC (odds ratios OR = 0.43, 95%confidence interval CI: 0.17 to 0.95), glutamine on NIC (OR = 0.07 CI: 0.00 to 0.78) and LOS (MD=-3.91 CI: −6.33 to -1.69) and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on LOS (OR=-3.49 CI: −5.46 to -1.00). Results indicated that glutamine had the highest probability of reducing complications and hospital stays. As for colorectal cancer patients underwent surgery, this indirect comparison suggested some superiority of glutamine. Future more RCTs with larger scale are required to provide evidence for the optimal immunonutrition formulas.
