The development of the transport sector is a long-term and continual process. This leads to a gradual increase in economic performance, economic growth and a deeper integration of the EU countries ...into the global economic structures. This contribution is focused on the problem of usage of the east – west corridors for the freight transport in transit. There are proposed for the new transport connections between China and Europe. The aim of the new connections is speed up of transport process of good flows. When proposing new corridor routes and new options for interconnection of the European rail network, basic deterministic methods of network analysis - the critical path method of the CPM and the CCM critical chain can be used. The aim is also to offer new options for development of rail transportation.
Market liberalization is a great contemporary trend in many fields of economy. Liberalized transport market, where the transport demand is meeting with transport offer, is evolving dynamically. ...Private railway passenger operators want to increase their market share together with national railway passenger transport companies therefore the quality of passenger transportation is getting higher, which positively influences the attractiveness of railway passenger transport. The article is focused on these current trends of liberalization in railway passenger transport market. From operational and economical point of view, there are described some ways, how to make the railway passenger transport system more effective and make the entire transport system more attractive for traveling public.
This paper deals with one of the most significant fields of the application of mathematical calculations to optimize the operational research and traffic problems. This issue includes the ...distribution of goods from the source/sources (seaport in our case) to dispersed targets (customers). The application of the “simple shuttle problem” is one option of the transport problem solution.
At present, mobility is an important part of everyday activities in cities. The increasing number of passenger and freight vehicles on the widening transport infrastructure raises several problems. ...The range of use of public passenger transport does satisfy enough the citizens needs and its use is constantly decreasing, especially in the new EU countries. One of the reasons is also the growing sale and production of new passenger cars in the EU, resulting in congestion in the road infrastructure of cities. These issues are dealt with the modern City Logistics concept. The paper is aimed to the basic principles of city logistics, the reasons for its development and, in particular, the possibilities of practical use. An example is the city of Trenčín in Slovakia, where a regional rail passenger transport is proposed for city traffic service including Park and Ride system.
Extending individual car transport brings lots of positive effects such as comfort and speed of travel, but also a number of negative aspects such as congested urban agglomerations, a significant ...increase in air pollutants, higher noise and so on. This problem can only be resolved by a functional passenger transport system with well-functioning public passenger transport as a full-fledged alternative to individual transport, which will meet the needs for the widest possible population.
This contribution defines and analyses the current passenger transport system, including the structure of particular subsystems, a description of the passenger transport chain and travel motives. Subsequently, a set of measures and standards are proposed for improving this system as well as for the general traffic service of the territory. It will also be necessary to rationalize the timetables of particular passenger transport subsystems in the proposal, primarily rail passenger transport as a main transport system.
The paper describes UIC methodology and a technique used by Slovakian infrastructure managers for estimating railway capacity and proposes a new approach to evaluating the capacity consumption of a ...track line (occupation time) based on the graphic approach. The new methodology concerns for the assessment of infrastructure occupation time and is a conceptual framework developed by the authors for an easier evaluation of occupation time in the train traffic diagram.

Paper deals with the problematic about the information quality impact and the basic methods which can optimize the costs of low quality of using information. First of all, it is important to purify ...the input data from the inconsistencies and measure the quality of data. This process assures to minimize the reasons that are responsible of poor quality of processes. Targets area of this paper is to identify and minimize the main reasons of delaying the passenger train by comparing years 2012 and 2013. Target groups of passenger trains were divided in three parts responsibilities of delaying – type of train, code of delay, group responsible for the train delay.

The definition of the term of substitute bus transport is anchored in the legislation of each EU Member State differently. This paper is focused on the analysis of the concept of alternative bus ...transport in terms of legal acts in the Slovak Republic. A substitute bus service is in practice a public bus service that is operated instead of a temporary interrupted rail service. On each bus, “substitute bus service” must be labelled along with the name of the operator. Buses are always waiting at a station building, but if it is not appropriate to approach a railway stop, the buses stop at a place predetermined on the carrier’s notice boards announcing the introduction of the substitute transport.
The concept of alternative bus transport is governed by the different legislation of each EU Member State in different widths. The deficiencies in the precise definition of substitute bus transport make it possible for rail operators to provide bus services even in those cases where rail transport is not interrupted. Based on an analysis of the legal regulation of the substitution bus service, this term will be redefined.
The disease COVID-19 negatively affected sustainable mobility, including public passenger transport, as it was necessary to take several measures to reduce the population’s mobility. It also limited ...rail passenger transport. Railway operators suffered from a significantly reduced number of passengers. An analysis of the transport performance of railway passenger transport is conducted in a case study in Slovakia. Based on the decline in transport performance in railway passenger transport and the degree of measures introduced, a new methodology and procedure for introducing pandemic measures are proposed in the context of reducing the scope of rail passenger transport. The measures are proposed under the condition that it is necessary to monitor the roles and responsibilities of railway infrastructure managers and rail passenger operators. The proposed methodology includes a transport performance forecast according to the defined transport reduction measure level and the train traffic diagram variants on the model railway line in the case of levels of the implemented measures. These proposals will contribute to higher quality and more efficient railway transportation, including optimal use of railway infrastructure capacity during emergency situations. The novelty of the research lies in the new methodological procedure and its practical application.
