Este estudio se centra en el poco explorado campo de las emociones y el lenguaje emotivo en la literatura apocalíptica bíblica, concentrándose en textos seleccionados de Daniel y Apocalipsis. Los ...autores de este estudio presuponen la naturaleza integral de los seres humanos. El estudio ofrece una definición operativarespecto a las emociones e intenta hacer una breve revisión de cómo estas funcionan. Luego analiza algunas expresiones emocionales negativas y positivas seleccionadas de los libros apocalípticos de Daniel (centrándose en los capítulos 7 al 12) y Apocalipsis, así como algunas de las respuestas emotivas que el lector de estos libros es animado a experimentar. Finalmente, se ofrecen algunas conclusiones tentativas que surgen de esta investigación pionera.
This study highlights the contribution of current scholarship focusing on ritual studies and its impact on biblical studies. Ritual is not just useful to discover activities, patterns, and the ...interaction of key elements of religious practice and textual worlds (including, among others, time, space, participants, objects, sounds, language, and action), but it also offers a helpful way of understanding the text’s talking about God, or biblical theology. The three-step from ritual to interpretation to integration of the data into the big picture of theology (or ideology) is seldom done consistently and requires a methodological reset. Finally, a brief look at the New Testament Lord’s Supper within this framework is attempted, demonstrating the potential of such an approach.

The study of the composition of the Pentateuch has been at the center of critical scholarship since the nineteenth century. While there is general agreement that the Graf-Wellhausen documentary ...hypothesis, as originally presented, is untenable, most of current Pentateuchal research has worked within the framework of the existence of divergent sources that underwent a number of editorial changes. Considering the basic physical law of input determining output, this study challenges the basic presupposition of the existence of divergent sources and calls for a fresh approach to the hermeneutics of the Pentateuch that approaches the biblical text on its own terms and that does not a priori negate the notion of inspiration, thus challenging the philosophical and methodological presuppositions of standard historical-critical scholarship. As a starting point for this new conversation, it offers seven thesis statements focusing on basic hermeneutics as well as promising methodological approaches that may point this important discussion beyond the well-worn tracks of critical scholarship.
El estudio de la composición del Pentateuco ha estado en el centro de la erudición crítica desde el siglo XIX. Mientras hay un acuerdo general de que la hipótesis documental de Graf-Wellhausen, como fue presentada originalmente, es insostenible, la mayor parte de la investigación del Pentateuco ha trabajado dentro del marco de la existencia de fuentes divergentes que pasaron por una cantidad de cambios editoriales. Biblical texts and ancient Near Eastern pictorial images and material culture are separated by thousands of years from people living in the 21st century. This not only represents a temporal divide, ...but also a significant ideological (or worldview) divide. Following a brief introduction to important principles of adult-educational theory, this article describes an experiment of using ancient Near Eastern images and material culture to connect modern, often secular, people to the world of the Bible. It suggests that these images represent helpful means to initiate a truly cross-cultural conversation, linking 21st-century people (outside of academia) to the concerns and issues of those living in the biblical world.
This volume is intended to introduce university and seminary
students and scholars to the neglected field of ritual studies,
particularly within the larger context of biblical and theological
...studies. At the same time, the author hopes to further the
discussion by interacting with numerous scholars in the field,
providing an extensive bibliography of relevant works. Klingbeil
defines the basic terms used in ritual studies and explains the
concepts involved in interpreting biblical ritual. He offers a
broad history of the study of biblical ritual, beginning with the
critiques of ritual found in the Old Testament prophetic books and
surveying attitudes toward ritual down to modern times. Drawing on
the fields of anthropology and sociology, as well as his decade of
work in the field, Klingbeil presents a comprehensive reading
strategy for biblical ritual texts. In addition, he explores
connections between ritual studies and theological research. This
ground-breaking study promises to generate discussion about
biblical ritual and provides an excellent introduction to this
growing field of study for students and scholars.
Paying attention to the locus (textual, structural, historical and theological) of the Sabbath law in the Decalogue(s) in Exod 20:8-11 and Deut 5:12-15, as well as their location within the biblical ...canon, this study argues that one of the key reasons for the differences in the language of the Sabbath command in Exodus and Deuteronomy involves contextualization. A closer look at the textual data highlights many links to the creation narrative of Genesis. Together with liberation (or redemption), creation is a key theological component of the Sabbath law in the Decalogue(s) and is linked to issues of holiness. This holiness does not only concern the individual before God but rather involves and creates community. En se penchant sur l'insertion (textuelle, structurelle, historique et théologique) de la loi sur le sabbat dans le(s) Décalogue(s) en Ex 20,8-11 et Dt 5,12-15, aussi bien que sur sa localisation dans le canon, l'étude suggère que l'une des raisons principales des différences de langage sur le commandement du sabbat en Exode et Deutéronome vient de sa mise en contexte. Un examen plus précis des données textuelles mets en lumière bien des liens avec le récit de la création en Genèse. Avec la libération (ou rédemption), la création est un élément clef de la loi sur le sabbat dans le(s) Décalogue(s), et est liée à des préoccupations sur la sainteté. Cette sainteté ne concerne pas seulement l'individu face à Dieu, mais aussi la communauté, qu'elle implique et créée.
This study of the enigmatic phrase ךָדְּבְעַ חלַּפִתְּ־לאֶ עַמֹשְׁלִ חזֹחוּחֻפְ ךָינֶיעֵוְ "and your eyes open to listen to the prayer of your servant" (Neh 1,6) utilizes an interdisciplinary approach ...involving insights from linguistic pragmatics and ritual theory. We will begin with a brief review of the history of interpretation of this phrase. Particular attention will then be given to elements of ritual theory, such as trigger point, ritual language, time, place, sequence, etc. Finally, we will examine the pragmatic context, discourse, and conversational strategies involved with this phrase.
