Several sinus floor elevation procedures for implant placement have been introduced. The present study aimed to evaluate the implants placed with Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) alone in atrophic ...posterior maxillae and survival rates and the potential factors associated with implant loss.
This retrospective study evaluated 71 implants in 34 patients after 1-7 years' follow-up time. Statistical models were used to determine the implant survival and the potential factors associated with loss.
Overall, 7 implants were lost, and the cumulative survival rate at 7 years by implant-based and patient-bases analyses were 85.5% and 85.7%, respectively. The mean residual bone height (RBH) was 4.26 mm. The implant survival rate was significantly lower at RBH < 4 mm than RBH ≥ 4 mm.
This retrospective study showed that sinus floor elevation with PRF alone could be applied in cases of lower RBH. However, it should be carefully performed in cases of RBH < 4 mm before surgery.

Background Although age-related change of junctional zone (JZ) of the uterus has been known, there has been no previous systematic study of age-related changes of uterine peristalsis that is observed ...as the wave conduction of the thickest or darkest area within the JZ. Purpose To examine the age-related changes of uterine peristalsis in pre and postmenopausal women using cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and to determine the correlation between peristalsis and JZ on T2-weighted (T2W) imaging. Material and Methods Cine MRI analysis was performed in 64 premenopausal volunteers and in 43 postmenopausal women. The peristaltic frequency, JZ detectability, and JZ thickness were evaluated and compared between the two groups. In the premenopausal group, the correlations between age and each item was examined. In the postmenopausal group, the number of years after menopause was used instead of age. The correlation between peristaltic frequency and JZ detectability or thickness was also analyzed. Results Peristaltic frequency and JZ detectability significantly differed between the two groups, while JZ thickness did not. Peristaltic frequency did not vary significantly with age before menopause and no peristalsis was observed after menopause. JZ detectability did not change significantly with age or number of years after menopause, while JZ thickness significantly increased with age before menopause, but did not vary after menopause. A significant moderate correlation was observed between JZ detectability and peristaltic frequency, but not between JZ thickness and peristaltic frequency. Conclusion Uterine peristalsis frequency did not change significantly according to age, but observed peristalsis on MRI significantly decreased after menopause.
Purpose
To determine the optimal inversion time (TI) value of three-dimensional (3D) balanced steady-state free-precession time-spatial labeling inversion pulse (time-SLIP) technique for ...visualization of the renal artery at 3T MRI, and to assess whether the optimal TI is affected by the subject’s age and blood velocity.
Materials and methods
Forty-two healthy volunteers (range 20–67 years) were enrolled in the study and subjected to non-contrast-enhanced renal MR angiography. Five different TI values (1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, and 2000 ms) were selected for evaluation. For quantitative evaluation, the relative signal intensity (SI) of the main renal artery was compared with that of the renal medulla (Vessel-to-Kidney ratio; VKR). Blood velocity of the abdominal aorta was measured using 2D phase contrast technique. For qualitative evaluation, two radiologists scored the depiction of the renal pelvis and the quality of visualization of the renal artery.
Results
VKR is the highest at TI = 1600 ms. A strong negative correlation between age and blood velocity was demonstrated. Regarding the qualitative evaluation, the overall image scores of renal arteries were the highest at a TI = 1800 ms for both readers. The optimal TI values in subjects below 50 years of age were 1600 and 1800 ms, whereas in subjects above 50 years of age, the optimal TI value was 1800 ms.
Conclusion
The optimal TI value for the visualization of renal arteries using time-SLIP technique at 3T MRI was 1800 ms. Subjects’ age affected optimal TI and this is likely due to differences in the blood velocity of the abdominal aorta.
Jejunal diverticulosis is a relatively rare condition which tends to remain asymptomatic. In this study, we report our experience with two cases of mesenteric abscess formation caused by penetration ...of a jejunal diverticulum. The patient in case 1 is a 94-year-old male who presented at our hospital with abdominal pain. Perforation of a diverticulum in the small intestine was suspected, based on the CT, and an emergency operation was performed. A mesenteric abscess had formed in the jejunum 25 cm from the ligament of Treitz, so a small intestine resection was performed. In the surgical specimen, a diverticulum in the small intestine was penetrated, forming the mesenteric abscess. The patient in case 2 was an 84-year-old female who consulted a local doctor for abdominal pain. She was referred to our hospital due to an increase in the number of WBC (11,300/μl) and CRP (17.7 mg/dl). Perforation of the small intestine was suspected, based on the CT, and an emergency operation was performed. A mesenteric abscess had formed in the jejunum 70 cm from the ligament of Treitz, so a small intestine resection was performed. In the surgical specimen, a diverticulum in the small intestine was penetrated, forming a mesenteric abscess. Although it is difficult to diagnose the existence of diverticula in the small intestine before surgery, for the treatment of cases in which a perforation of small intestine is suspected, the possibility of this condition should also be considered.
We report a case of ascending colon cancer associated with Japanese Schistosomiasis. An 80-year old man was admitted to the hospital for occult blood stool who had lived in Kofu, Yamanashi ...Prefecture, a past endemic area of Japanese Schistosomiasis until the age of 15. Colonoscopy showed a type2 tumor of the ascending colon. Laparoscopic right-hemicolectomy with D3 lymph node dissection was performed. Pathological findings demonstrated moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma, tub2, med, SS, INFb, int, ly1, v0, N0, PM0, DM0, RM0. In addition, Schistosoma japonicum eggs showing calcification were seen in the submucosa of the colonic lesion. This case was considered to be an old lesion.
A 68-year old man undergoing abdominal CT due to prostate cancer was found to have the cystic lesion 3cm in diameter in the distal portion of the appendix. The patient was diagnosed with appendiceal ...mucocele and underwent single-incision laparoscopic appendectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 6. The histological examination revealed low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm.
