Among the common AEs of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), the incidence of lower abdominal pain/pelvic pain is 36.1% (95% CI: 24.3%∼48.8%), vaginal bleeding is 20.6% (95% CI: 13.9%∼28.0%), vaginal discharge is 14.0% (95% CI: 9.6%∼19.1%), myoma discharge is 24% (95% CI: 14.6%∼34.8%), buttock pain is 10.8% (95% CI: 6.0%∼16.5%) and sacral pain is 10% (95% CI: 8.8%∼11.2%). Serious complications include uterine rupture, necrotic tissue obstruction requiring surgical intervention, third degree skin burns and persistent lower limb pain or movement disorders.RESULTSThis systematic review finally included 41 articles. PurposeThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of motivation on job satisfaction and organizational performance in the context of container shipping companies in Taiwan. Four motivation ...dimensions were identified based on an exploratory factor analysis, including remuneration, job achievement, job security and job environment. In addition, five job satisfaction dimensions were identified, namely: job policy, job autonomy, job workload, job performance and job status. Organizational performance dimensions included financial and non-financial performance.Design/methodology/approachFactor analysis was used to summarize a large number of motivation, job satisfaction and organizational performance attributes to identify the crucial factors. Reliability tests based on Cronbach’s alpha and corrected item-total correlation coefficients was used to test the internal consistency of questionnaire responses. ANOVA tests were subsequently used to test for differences in respondents’ perception of these factors according to selected demographics. Finally, a multiple regression model analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between motivation, job satisfaction and organizational performance.FindingsResults indicated that remuneration and job performance had a positive effect on financial performance dimensions such as return on assets, turnover growth rate and profitability while job environment and job autonomy had a positive effect on non-financial performance dimensions, such as customer service, employee productivity and service quality.Originality/valueThis study has drawn attention to the importance of the relationships between motivation, job satisfaction and organizational performance in the container shipping context. The findings have significant implications for researchers and shipping practitioners. Despite the existence of research on the inter-relationships between motivation, job satisfaction and organizational performance in other disciplines, no empirical study was discussed in previous shipping or transportation-related research.
Type I interferon (IFN) induced by virus infections during pregnancy can cause placental damage, but the mechanisms and identities of IFN-stimulated genes that are involved in this damage remain ...under investigation. The IFN-induced transmembrane proteins (IFITMs) inhibit virus infections by preventing virus membrane fusion with cells and by inhibiting fusion of infected cells (syncytialization). Fusion of placental trophoblasts via expression of endogenous retroviral fusogens known as syncytins forms the syncytiotrophoblast, a multinucleated cell structure essential for fetal development. We found here that IFN blocks fusion of BeWo human placental trophoblasts. Stably expressed IFITM1, -2, and -3 also blocked fusion of these trophoblasts while making them more resistant to virus infections. Conversely, stable IFITM knockdowns in BeWo trophoblasts increased their spontaneous fusion and allowed fusion in the presence of IFN while also making the cells more susceptible to virus infection. We additionally found that exogenous expression of IFITMs in HEK293T cells blocked fusion with cells expressing syncytin-1 or syncytin-2, confirming the ability of IFITMs to block individual syncytin-mediated fusion. Overall, our data indicate that IFITMs inhibit trophoblast fusion and suggest that there may be a critical balance between these antifusogenic effects and the beneficial antiviral effects of IFITMs in virus infections during pregnancy.

Mammary epithelial cells (MECs) secrete milk into the mammary alveolar lumen during lactation. The secreted milk accumulates in the alveolar lumen until milk ejection occurs, and excess milk ...accumulation downregulates milk production in alveolar MECs. Intramammary hydrostatic pressure also increases in the alveolar lumen in a manner dependent on milk accumulation. In this study, we investigated whether high hydrostatic compression directly affects lactating MECs, using a commercial compression device and a lactation culture model of MECs, which have milk production ability and less permeable tight junctions. High hydrostatic compression at 100 kPa for 8 h decreased β-casein and increased claudin-4 levels concurrently with inactivation of STAT5 and glucocorticoid receptor signaling pathways. In addition, high hydrostatic compression for 1 h inactivated STAT5 and activated p38 MAPK signaling. Furthermore, repeated rises and falls of the hourly hydrostatic compression induced activation of positive (Akt, mTOR) and negative (STAT3, NF-κB) signaling pathways for milk production concurrently with stimulation of casein and lactoferrin production in MECs. These results indicate that milk production-related signaling pathways in MECs change in response to hydrostatic compression. Hydrostatic compression of the alveolar lumen may directly regulate milk production in the alveolar MECs of lactating mammary glands.

During lactation, mammary epithelial cells (MECs) on the apical membrane are in contact with lactose in milk, while MECs on the basolateral membrane are in contact with glucose in blood. Both glucose ...and lactose are sweeteners that are sensed by a sweet taste receptor. Previously, we have shown that lactose exposure on the basolateral membrane, but not the apical membrane, inhibits casein production and phosphorylation of STAT5 in MECs. However, it remains unclear whether MECs have a sweet taste receptor. In this study, we confirmed that the sweet taste receptor subunit T1R3 existed in both the apical and basolateral membranes of MECs. Subsequently, we investigated the influence of apical and basolateral sucralose as a ligand for the sweet taste receptor using a cell culture model. In this model, upper and lower media were separated by the MEC layer with less-permeable tight junctions. The results showed in the absence of glucose, both apical and basolateral sucralose induced phosphorylation of STAT5, which is a positive transcriptional factor for milk production. In contrast, the T1R3 inhibitor basolateral lactisole reducing phosphorylated STAT5 and secreted caseins in the presence of glucose. Furthermore, exposure of the apical membrane to sucralose in the presence of glucose inhibited the phosphorylation of STAT5. Simultaneously, GLUT1 was partially translocated from the basolateral membrane to the cytoplasm in MECs. These results suggest that T1R3 functions as a sweet receptor and is closely involved in casein production in MECs.

This study investigated crucial green supply chain management (GSCM) capability dimensions and firm performance based on electronics-related manufacturing firms in Taiwan. On the basis of a factor ...analysis, six green supply chain management dimensions were identified: green manufacturing and packaging, environmental participation, green marketing, green suppliers, green stock, and green eco-design. According to their factor scores in the GSCM dimensions, a cluster analysis subsequently assigned responding firms into four groups, namely, the weak GSCM oriented group, the green marketing oriented group, the green supplier oriented group, and the green stock oriented group. Differences in firm performance and GSCM dimensions among groups were examined. Results indicated that the green marketing oriented group performed best. Based on the resource-based view (RBV), the capability of the green marketing oriented group was considered to be the deployment of a collection of resources that enables it to successfully compete against rivals. The importance of green marketing as a GSCM capability and strategic asset/critical resources for electronics-related manufacturing firms to obtain a competitive edge is therefore highlighted in this study.
Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) has been classified into three subtypes, namely the European (Eu-TBEV), Far Eastern (FE-TBEV), and Siberian (Sib-TBEV). In this study, we discovered a new subtype ...of TBEV in wild rodent Marmota himalayana in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China, proposed as subtype Himalayan (Him-TBEV). Two complete genomes of TBEV were obtained from respiratory samples of 200 marmots. The phylogenetic analysis using the E protein and polyprotein demonstrated that the two strains of Him-TBEV formed an independent branch, separated from Eu-TBEV, Sib-TBEV, and FE-TBEV. The nomenclature of Him-TBEV as a new subtype was also supported by comparative analysis using nucleotide and amino acid sequences of E protein and polyprotein. For E protein, The Him-TBEV showed 82.6-84.6% nucleotide identities and 92.7-95.0% amino acid identities with other three subtypes. For polyprotein, the Him-TBEV showed 83.5-85.2% nucleotide identities and 92.6-94.2% amino acids identities with other three subtypes. Furthermore, of 69 amino acid substitutions profiles detected in complete polyprotein of 112 strains of TBEV, Him-TBEV subtype displayed unique amino acids in the 36 positions. Notably, for the subtype-specific amino acid position 206 of E protein, Him-TBEV shared the Val with Eu-TBEV, but differed from FE-TBEV and Sib-TBEV. The evolutionary analysis with BEAST suggested that Him-TBEV diverged from other subtypes of eastern TBEV group about 2469 years ago. It should be mentioned that Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China is the plague endemic region where Marmota himalayana is the primary host. The public health significance of discovery of Him-TBEV in Marmota himalayana must be carefully evaluated.
Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been used to successfully treat primary liver cancer (PLC); however, identifying modifiable patient factors associated with therapeutic benefits is ...challenging. Obesity is known to be associated with increased survival after ICI treatment; however, the relationship between body composition (muscle, fat) and outcomes is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between sarcopenia and CT-derived fat content and the prognosis of ICIs for the treatment of PLC. Methods In this retrospective cohort study of 172 patients with PLC, we measured the skeletal muscle index (SMI), skeletal muscle density, visceral adipose tissue index, subcutaneous adipose tissue index, total adipose tissue index (TATI), and visceral-to-subcutaneous adipose tissue area ratio using CT. In addition, we analyzed the impact of body composition on the prognosis of the patients. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to screen for influencing factors. Results Among the seven body composition components, low SMI (sarcopenia) and low TATI were significantly associated with poor clinical outcomes. Multivariate analysis revealed that sarcopenia (hazard ratio HR, 5.39; 95% confidence interval CI, 1.74-16.74; p = 0.004) was a significant predictor of overall survival (OS). Kaplan-Meier curves showed that sarcopenia and TATI were significant predictors of OS. Body mass index was not associated with survival outcomes. Conclusions Sarcopenia and fat tissue content appear to be independently associated with reduced survival rates in patients with PLC treated with ICIs. A new cell line was established from the brain of a cultured fish, tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), designated as TA‐02 (Tilapia Astrocyte clone 02 cell line). The TA‐02 cells are grown for 300 days ...in an L‐15 medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). This cell line showed excellent proliferative capacity and expressed various neuroglial cell markers, including SOX2, SOX10, Hes1, Notch1, Occludin, E‐cadherin, and GFAP. In addition, TA‐02 cells were susceptible to Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) as demonstrated by the presence of a severe cytopathic effect (CPE), virus particle in a transmission electron microscope (TEM), and PCR positive signal. Bacterial cytotoxicity studies showed that Streptococcus agalactiae was toxic to TA‐02 cells. When co‐culture with trans‐well, TA‐02 exhibited prominent barrier properties, manifested by tight intercellular junctions and increased trans‐endothelial electrical resistance (TEER). In addition, the barrier is effective against Escherichia coli (non‐meningitis pathogenic bacteria). In contrast, S. agalactiae (meningitis pathogenic bacteria) can pass through the membrane comprising the cells in the trans‐well insert. The newly established TA‐02 cell line provided a valuable tool for virus pathogenesis and a vitro model of the fish blood–brain barrier.
