Aliarcobacter butzleri
(formerly known as
Arcobacter
butzleri) is an emerging food-borne zoonotic pathogen that establishes in vitro endosymbiotic relationships with
Acanthamoeba castellanii
, a ...free-living amoeba. Previously, we described that this bacterium acts as an endocytobiont of
A. castellanii
, surviving for at least 10 days in absence of bacterial replication. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of
A. butzleri
to survive as a long-term endosymbiont of
A. castellanii
for 30 days in two models of symbiotic interaction with
A. castellanii
: (i) endosymbiotic culture followed by gentamicin protection assay and (ii) transwell co-culture assay. The results allow us to conclude that
A. butzleri
is capable of surviving as an endosymbiont of
A. castellanii
for at least 30 days, without multiplying, under controlled laboratory conditions. In addition, in the absence of nutrients and as both microorganisms remain in the same culture, separated by semi-permeable membranes,
A. castellanii
does not promote the survival of
A. butzleri
, nor does it multiply. Our findings suggest that the greater survival capacity of
A. butzleri
is associated with their endosymbiont status inside
A. castellanii
, pointing out the complexity of this type of symbiotic relationship.

Purpose
Mental health disparities have been documented among sexual minority college students, but there is a dearth of evidence from developing countries. The aim is to estimate the prevalence of ...12-month mental and substance use disorders across a range of sexual identities among first-year college students in Mexican universities, and test whether there is an association between sexual identity and disorders and whether the association is moderated by gender.
Method
The University Project for Healthy Students, a web-based survey conducted as part of the World Health Organization’s World Mental Health International College Student initiative, recruited 7874 students from nine Mexican universities in 2016 and 2017. Logistic regressions estimated the association of sexual identity with 12-month major depressive episode, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, alcohol abuse/dependence, and drug abuse/dependence, with interaction terms for gender.
Results
Compared to heterosexual students reporting no same-sex attraction (SSA), heterosexual students with SSA (AORs range 1.77–3.67) and lesbian/gay and bisexual students (AORs range 2.22–5.32) were at a higher risk for several disorders. Asexual students were at higher risk for drug abuse/dependence (AOR = 3.64). Students unsure of their sexual identity were at a higher risk for major depressive episode, panic disorder, and drug abuse/dependence (AORs range 2.25–3.82). Gender differences varied across sexual identity and disorder.
Conclusion
These findings are the first empirical report of sexual minority psychiatric disparities among a college student population from a developing nation and underscore the importance of clinical interventions that address mental health needs among sexual minority college students.
Ticks and tick-borne diseases affect livestock productivity and cause significant economic losses. Therefore, surveillance of these pathogens and vectors is paramount to reducing these effects in ...livestock. This study aimed to identify
and

s.l. from seven locations in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, between 2015 and 2017. From 404 bovines, 2880 ticks were collected:
(2391 females and 395 males),
spp. (51 females and 42 males) and
(1 female).
represented the largest specimens captured, with 96.7% within the seven study sites. PCR processed only 15% (442) of tick samples to identify

s.l. was not found either in the ticks or serum samples. Two
DNA nucleotide sequences obtained in this study were deposited in the GenBank with the following accession numbers OR050501 cattle, and OR050500

Despite being developed from one zygote, heterokaryotypic monozygotic (MZ) co-twins exhibit discordant karyotypes. Epigenomic studies in biological samples from heterokaryotypic MZ co-twins are of ...the most significant value for assessing the effects on gene- and allele-specific expression of an extranumerary chromosomal copy or structural chromosomal disparities in otherwise nearly identical germline genetic contributions. Here, we use RNA-Seq data from existing repositories to establish within-pair correlations for the breadth and magnitude of allele-specific expression (ASE) in heterokaryotypic MZ co-twins discordant for trisomy 21 and maternal 21q inheritance, as well as homokaryotypic co-twins. We show that there is a genome-wide disparity at ASE sites between the heterokaryotypic MZ co-twins. Although most of the disparity corresponds to changes in the magnitude of biallelic imbalance, ASE sites switching from either strictly monoallelic to biallelic imbalance or the reverse occur in few genes that are known or predicted to be imprinted, subject to X-chromosome inactivation or A-to-I(G) RNA edited. We also uncovered comparable ASE differences between homokaryotypic MZ twins. The extent of ASE discordance in MZ twins (2.7%) was about 10-fold lower than the expected between pairs of unrelated, non-twin males or females. The results indicate that the observed within-pair dissimilarities in breadth and magnitude of ASE sites in the heterokaryotypic MZ co-twins could not solely be attributable to the aneuploidy and the missing allelic heritability at 21q.
This paper addresses the multi-product, multi-period capacitated lot sizing problem. In particular, this work determines the optimal lot size allowing for shortages (imposed by budget restrictions), ...but with a penalty cost. The developed models are well suited to the usually rather inflexible production resources found in retail industries. Two models are proposed based on mixed-integer formulations: (i) one that allows shortage and (ii) one that forces fulfilling the demand. Both models are implemented over test instances and a case study of a real industry. By investigating the properties of the obtained solutions, we can determine whether the shortage allowance will benefit the company. The experimental results indicate that, for the test instances, the fact of allowing shortages produces savings up to 17% in comparison with the model without shortages, whereas concerning the current situation of the company, these savings represent 33% of the total costs while preserving the revenue.

Causal ordering is a useful tool for mobile distributed systems (MDS) to reduce the non-determinism induced by three main aspects: host mobility, asynchronous execution, and unpredictable ...communication delays. Several causal protocols for MDS exist. Most of them, in order to reduce the overhead and the computational cost over wireless channels and mobile hosts (MH), ensure causal ordering at and according to the causal view of the Base Stations. Nevertheless, these protocols introduce certain disadvantage, such as unnecessary inhibition at the delivery of messages. In this paper, we present an efficient causal protocol for groupware that satisfies the MDS's constraints, avoiding unnecessary inhibitions and ensuring the causal delivery based on the view of the MHs. One interesting aspect of our protocol is that it dynamically adapts the causal information attached to each message based on the number of messages with immediate dependency relation, and this is not directly proportional to the number of MHs.
