Abstract
Background
Huge efforts are being made to control the spread and impacts of the coronavirus pandemic using vaccines. However, willingness to be vaccinated depends on factors beyond the ...availability of vaccines. The aim of this study was three-folded: to assess children’s rates of COVID-19 Vaccination as reported by parents, to explore parents’ attitudes towards children’s COVID-19 vaccination, and to examine the factors associated with parents’ hesitancy towards children’s vaccination in several countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR).
Methods
This study utilized a cross-sectional descriptive design. A sample of 3744 parents from eight countries, namely, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (KSA), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was conveniently approached and surveyed using Google forms from November to December 2021. The participants have responded to a 42-item questionnaire pertaining to socio-demographics, children vaccination status, knowledge about COVID-19 vaccines, and attitudes towards vaccinating children and the vaccine itself. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS- IBM, Chicago, IL, USA) was used to analyze the data. A cross-tabulation analysis using the chi-square test was employed to assess significant differences between categorical variables and a backward Wald stepwise binary logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the independent effect of each factor after controlling for potential confounders.
Results
The prevalence of vaccinated children against COVID-19 was 32% as reported by the parents. Concerning parents’ attitudes towards vaccines safety, about one third of participants (32.5%) believe that all vaccines are not safe. In the regression analysis, children’s vaccination was significantly correlated with parents’ age, education, occupation, parents’ previous COVID-19 infection, and their vaccination status. Participants aged ≥50 years and those aged 40-50 years had an odds ratio of 17.9 (OR = 17.9, CI: 11.16-28.97) and 13.2 (OR = 13.2, CI: 8.42-20.88); respectively, for vaccinating their children compared to those aged 18-29 years. Parents who had COVID-19 vaccine were about five folds more likely to vaccinate their children compared with parents who did not receive the vaccine (OR = 4.9, CI: 3.12-7.70). The prevalence of children’s vaccination in the participating Arab countries is still not promising.
Conclusion
To encourage parents, vaccinate their children against COVID-19, Arab governments should strategize accordingly. Reassurance of the efficacy and effectiveness of the vaccine should target the general population using educational campaigns, social media, and official TV and radio channels.
Endocardial-epicardial (Endo-epi) catheter ablation (CA) has been shown to reduce the rate of ventricular arrhythmia (VA) ablation in patients with structural heart disease (SHD). However, the ...effectiveness of this technique compared with endocardial (Endo) CA alone remains uncertain. This meta-analysis aims to compare the effectiveness of Endo-epi versus Endo alone in reducing the risk of VA recurrence in patients with SHD. We searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register with a comprehensive strategy. We used reconstructed time-to-event data to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for VA recurrence accompanied by at least one Kaplan–Meier curve for ventricular tachycardia recurrence. Our meta-analysis included 11 studies with a total of 977 patients. Endo-epi had a significantly lower risk of VA recurrence compared with those treated with Endo alone (HR 0.43, 95% CI 0.32 to 0.57, p <0.001). Subgroup analysis based on the type of cardiomyopathy revealed that patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) benefited significantly from Endo-epi in reducing the risk of VA recurrence (HR 0.835, 0.55 to 0.87, p <0.021). However, there was no significant difference with non-ICM (HR 0.440, 0.55 to 0.87, p <0.33). The analysis of conditional survival showed that patients who remained free of VA recurrence for 5 years after the procedure had a very low probability of developing VA recurrence thereafter. In conclusion, Endo-epi CA is more effective than Endo CA alone in reducing the risk of VA recurrence in patients with SHD, especially those with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and ICM.

Furthermore, the article advocates for a patient-centered, comprehensive rehabilitation regimen that enhances recovery and quality of life in elderly patients undergoing knee replacement surgery.
To our knowledge, no studies have explored leadership practices in relation to structural and psychological empowerment among nurses during COVID-19. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to ...examine those relationships in Jordanian nurses working in emergency departments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A descriptive, correlational cross-sectional design was used in this study. The participants were emergency nurses working at 3 large hospitals in Jordan. The participants were surveyed via an online questionnaire between September 2021 and January 2022. A total of 3 valid scales were included in the questionnaire to assess the nurses’ clinical leadership practices in relation to perceived structural and psychological empowerment.
A total of 193 emergency nurses were surveyed, of which 116 participants (60.1%) were male, and their average age was 29.64 (SD 4.74) years. Nurses had a moderate level of clinical leadership practices 12.50 (SD 1.65), moderate level of perceived structural empowerment 3.67 (SD 0.44), and a high-moderate level of perceived psychological empowerment 5.96 (SD 0.65). Clinical leadership practices were shown to have a significant positive relationship with structural (r = 0.65; P < .01) and psychological (r = 0.74; P < .01) empowerment. Predictors of clinical leadership practices of the Jordanian emergency nurses during COVID-19 were ranked in order of significance; structural and psychological empowerments were the highest significant predictors. However, patient to nurse ratio (>6 patients/nurse) was the lowest significant predictor.
Although structural and psychological empowerments play a pivotal role in predicting the leadership practices of the emergency nurses in Jordan, the nurses should enhance their leadership style for better management and effective communication during critical situations such as pandemics.

Hydrogels, a type of polymeric material capable of retaining water within a three-dimensional network, have demonstrated their potential in wound healing, surpassing traditional wound dressings. ...These hydrogels possess remarkable mechanical, chemical, and biological properties, making them suitable scaffolds for tissue regeneration. This article aims to emphasize the advantages of alginate, silk fibroin, and hydrogel-based wound dressings, specifically highlighting their crucial functions that accelerate the healing process of skin wounds. Noteworthy functions include self-healing ability, water solubility, anti-inflammatory properties, adhesion, antimicrobial properties, drug delivery, conductivity, and responsiveness to stimuli. Moreover, recent advancements in hydrogel technology have resulted in the development of wound dressings with enhanced features for monitoring wound progression, further augmenting their effectiveness. This review emphasizes the utilization of hydrogel membranes for treating excisional and incisional wounds, while exploring recent breakthroughs in hydrogel wound dressings, including nanoparticle composite hydrogels, stem cell hydrogel composites, and curcumin-hydrogel composites. Additionally, the review focuses on diverse synthesis procedures, designs, and potential applications of hydrogels in wound healing dressings.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common emergency condition with high morbidity, mortality, and socio-economic impact. Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is a potential ...biomarker for AP prognosis. This study systematically reviews the literature on suPAR’s prognostic roles in assessing AP severity, organ failure, mortality, and other pathological markers. Methods: A comprehensive search of 5 databases up to March 19, 2023, was conducted, selecting cohort studies that examined suPAR’s relationship with AP outcomes. Outcome variables included AP severity, organ failure, mortality, hospital stay length, and suPAR’s association with other inflammatory markers. Our paper has been registered on Prospero (ID: CRD42023410628). Results: Nine prospective observational studies with 1033 AP patients were included. Seven of eight studies found suPAR significantly elevated in severe acute pancreatitis ( P < .05). Four studies showed suPAR effectively predicted organ failure risk, and 4 studies concluded suPAR significantly predicted mortality ( P < .05). The review had no high-risk studies, enhancing credibility. Conclusion: suPAR is a valuable prognostic marker in AP, significantly predicting severity, organ failure, hospital stay length, and mortality. Further large-scale studies are needed to explore suPAR’s role in other clinical outcomes related to AP disease course, to establish it as a mainstay of AP prognosis.
