This paper is focused to the field-induced dynamics of vortex-like domain walls (VDWs) in magnetic nanotubes (MNTs). Based on a dissipative Lagrangian formalism that fully includes damping as well as ...exchange and dipole–dipole coupling, it is shown that VDW motion is very sensitive to the chirality, giving rise to a chiral asymmetry in the vortex wall propagation. As a consequence, the dynamics of the wall is fundamentally different to that of nanostripes and solid nanowires. Besides the well-known Walker breakdown that stands at the onset of the precessional wall motion, it is found an additional breakdown field (called here the chiral breakdown) that modifies the steady regime of VDWs. We also show outstanding VDWs dynamical properties at low applied fields, as low-field mobilities (∼10km/(sT)) and very short relaxation times (∼1ns), offering a reliable fast control of VDWs velocities (∼1000m/s at applied fields of 0.7mT).
•We model analytically the dynamics of vortex domain walls in magnetic nanotubes.•We fully include damping, exchange and dipole–dipole coupling.•The wall dynamics is fundamentally different to that of nanostripes.•We report and describe an extra dynamical instability, the Chiral Breakdown field.•We report outstanding dynamical properties at weak magnetic fields.
Reconstruction of the tip of the nose following the excision of skin cancer is a cosmetic and surgical challenge. We propose using a crescentic nasojugal flap, also known as a perialar crescentic ...advancement flap, to repair such defects. We present a series of 13 cases in which cutaneous carcinoma (mostly basal cell carcinoma) was excised from the lateral nasal tip with clear margins and the defect repaired with a crescentic nasojugal flap. The technique was successful in all cases. None of the patients developed notable surgical complications and the postoperative outcomes were satisfactory, with no significant functional or cosmetic problems. The crescentic nasojugal flap is therefore a good option for repairing medium-sized defects on the tip of the nose.
Abstract
In this contribution we propose two numerical methods for the solution of the system of two non-linear coupled differential Ginzburg-Landau equations. These proposals are based firstly on ...taking a matrix view considering the quasi-linear coupled system, as a second option, considering the computational molecule with its respective restriction of the values and eigen-vectors of the matrix. We clearly and concisely obtained the eigenvalues that lead us to an optimal spatio-temporal convergence solution of said system of equations. We compare the numerical convergence times obtained by these three methods with the known time found by applying the link variable method.
Magnonics addresses the physical properties of spin waves and utilizes them for data processing. Scalability down to atomic dimensions, operation in the GHz-to-THz frequency range, utilization of ...nonlinear and nonreciprocal phenomena, and compatibility with CMOS are just a few of many advantages offered by magnons. Although magnonics is still primarily positioned in the academic domain, the scientific and technological challenges of the field are being extensively investigated, and many proof-of-concept prototypes have already been realized in laboratories. This roadmap is a product of the collective work of many authors, which covers versatile spin-wave computing approaches, conceptual building blocks, and underlying physical phenomena. In particular, the roadmap discusses the computation operations with the Boolean digital data, unconventional approaches, such as neuromorphic computing, and the progress toward magnon-based quantum computing. This article is organized as a collection of sub-sections grouped into seven large thematic sections. Each sub-section is prepared by one or a group of authors and concludes with a brief description of current challenges and the outlook of further development for each research direction.
Background
Plasma exchange (PLEX) is a therapeutic option in the treatment of acute attacks of Demyelinating Diseases of the Central Nervous System (DDCNS). Factors related with PLEX response are not ...well established.
Methods
Descriptive and retrospective study. We included patients treated with PLEX for acute attacks of DDCNS between 2008 and 2017. We recorded demographics, clinical and treatment-related data, and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score at admission, at discharge, and at 6 months.
Results
We included 64 patients. Forty-eight (75%) were female with a mean age of 48.28 ± 11.5 years. Half of our patients were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Clinical improvement was achieved in 51.6% at discharge and 62.5% at 6 months. The logistic regression model showed that EDSS score > 3 at admission (
p
= 0.04) and early clinical improvement with PLEX (
p
= 0.00) were predictors of good response to PLEX at discharge and at 6 months, respectively. No serious adverse effects were identified.
Conclusions
PLEX is a safe and effective treatment for acute attacks of DDCNS. EDSS score at admission and early clinical improvement with PLEX were factors associated with good response to PLEX.
