The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the $K^± → π^0π^0μ^±$ν decay based on a sample of 2437 candidates with 15% background contamination collected in 2003–2004. The decay ...branching ratio in the kinematic region of the squared dilepton mass above 0.03 GeV2/c4 is measured to be (0.65 ± 0.03) × 10–6. The extrapolation to the full kinematic space, using a specific model, is found to be (3.45 ± 0.16) × 10–6, in agreement with chiral perturbation theory predictions.
A measurement of the form factors of charged kaon semileptonic decays is presented, based on 4.4 × 106K± → π0e±νe (K e3 ± ) and 2.3 × 106K± → π0μ±νμ (K μ3 ±) decays collected in 2004 by the NA48/2 ...experiment. The results are obtained with improved precision as compared to earlier measurements. The combination of measurements in the K e3 ± and K μ3 ± modes is also presented.
The family Heliconiaceae contains a single genus, Heliconia, with approximately 180 species of Neotropical origin. This genus was formerly allocated to the family Musaceae, but today forms its own ...family, in the order Zingiberales. The combination of inverted flowers, a single staminode and drupe fruits is an exclusive characteristic of Heliconia. Heliconias are cultivated as ornamental garden plants, and are of increasing importance as cut flowers. However, there are taxonomic confusions and uncertainties about the number of species and the relationships among them. Molecular studies are therefore necessary for better understanding of the species boundaries of these plants. We examined the genetic variability and the phylogenetic relationships of 124 accessions of the genus Heliconia based on RAPD markers. Phenetic and cladistic analyses, using 231 polymorphic RAPD markers, demonstrated that the genus Heliconia is monophyletic. Groupings corresponding to currently recognized species and some subgenera were found, and cultivars and hybrids were found to cluster with their parents. RAPD analysis generally agreed with morphological species classification, except for the position of the subgenus Stenochlamys, which was found to be polyphyletic.

NA48/2 results contributing to ChPT testing are presented. A sample of 1663 events of the rare decay $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ has been selected with a minimum
e
+
e
−
effective mass of 140 ...MeV. The measured model independent decay rate is in agreement with ChPT predictions. The branching ratio of the $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ decay, never observed so far, has been obtained from a sample of about 5000 candidates with less than 6% background, also in agreement with ChPT predictions. In addition, a most precise measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic formfactors has been obtained from 4.4 million
K
e3
and 2.3 million
K
µ3
events collected in 2004.
The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected two data samples with minimum bias trigger conditions in 2003 and 2004. A measurement of the rate and dynamic properties of the rare decay K±→π±γγ from these ...data sets based on 149 decay candidates with an estimated background of 15.5±0.7 events is reported. The model-independent branching ratio in the kinematic range z=(mγγ/mK)2>0.2 is measured to be BMI(z>0.2)=(0.877±0.089)×10−6, and the branching ratio in the full kinematic range assuming a particular Chiral Perturbation Theory description to be B(Kπγγ)=(0.910±0.075)×10−6.
From the 2002 data taking with a neutral kaon beam extracted from the CERN-SPS, the NA48/1 experiment observed 97 Ξ0→Σ+μ−ν¯μ candidates with a background contamination of 30.8±4.2 events. From this ...sample, the BR(Ξ0→Σ+μ−ν¯μ) is measured to be (2.17±0.32stat±0.17syst)×10−6.
