In this essay, I argue for the following theses. First, Kummer's concept of ''ideal prime factors of a complex number'' was inspired by Poncelet's introduction of ideal elements in geometry as well ...as by the reconceptualization that Michel Chasles put forward for them in 1837. In other words, the idea of ideal divisors in Kummer's ''theory of complex numbers'' derives from the introduction of ideal elements in the new geometry. This is where the term ''ideal'' comes from. Second, the introduction of ideal elements into geometry and the subsequent reconceptualization of what was in play with these elements were linked to philosophical reflections on generality that practitioners of geometry in France developed in the first half of the 19^{\rm th}$ century in order to devise a new approach to geometry, which would eventually become projective geometry. These philosophical reflections circulated as such and played a key part in the advance of other domains, including in Kummer's major innovation in the context of number theory.
L’obésité est une épidémie mondiale qui touche plus de 400 millions d’adultes présentant de graves comorbidités. La recherche de nouveaux traitements pour diminuer ses conséquences négatives est ...nécessaire. Les orexines (orexine-A (OxA) et orexine-B (OxB)) sont des neuropeptides hypothalamiques qui interviennent dans différents processus physiologiques, notamment le maintien des états de veille/sommeil, l’homéostasie énergétique, les mécanismes de récompense, la cognition et l’analgésie. Le but de cette étude est d’étudier les conséquences d’un traitement chronique à l’OxA dans des modèles de souris sensibles ou résistantes à l’obésité.
Cette étude a été réalisée chez la souris C57BL/6 femelles âgées de 8 semaines. Un groupe de 60 souris a reçu le régime glucido-lipidiques (HL), dont la répartition de l’énergie en % pour les différents nutriments est la suivante (P20, G50 (amidon 50 %, sucrose 50 %) et L30 (25 % huile de soja, 75 % saindoux)). La mesure de la composition corporelle après 3 semaines de régime HL a permis d’identifier 16 souris sensibles au régime HL (OP) et 16 souris résistantes (OR). Chaque groupe a été divisés en 2 sous-groupes : la moitié de chaque groupe recevant des injections d’OxA pendant 9 semaines (8 souris OP, 8 souris OP+OxA, 8 souris OR et 8 souris OR+OxA). En parallèle un groupe de 12 souris contrôles a reçu un régime standard (P20 Soja) dont la répartition de l’énergie en % pour les différents nutriments protéines (P), glucides (G) et lipides (L) est la suivante : P20, G70 (80 % amidon, 20 % sucrose) et L10 (100 % huile de soja). Nous avons fait le suivi du poids des animaux pendant 12 semaines, réalisé des tests de tolérance au glucose, mesuré la prise alimentaire, la dépense énergétique, ainsi que l’expression dans l’hypothalamus de plusieurs neuromédiateurs et les récepteurs à l’orexine.
Nos résultats montrent que le traitement des souris par l’OxA réduit la prise du poids des souris OP. Cette diminution de la prise de poids est associée à une diminution de la masse grasse, de la prise alimentaire, d’une réduction de la stéatose hépatique, d’une réduction de la glycémie et d’une augmentation du quotient respiratoire. Nous observons également au niveau de l’hypothalamus, lequel est impliqué dans le contrôle de la prise alimentaire, une diminution de l’expression des récepteurs aux orexines (OX1R & OX2R) ainsi qu’une régulation de l’augmentation induite par le régime HL chez les souris obèses, des neuropeptides AgRP, NPY, POMC et CART, impliqués dans la prise alimentaire.
Nous avions précédemment démontré, chez des souris soumises à un régime standard, que les injections d’OxA avaient peu d’effet sur les dépenses énergétiques. Cependant, chez les souris OP l’administration d’OxA réduit la prise de poids en régulant la prise alimentaire et en améliorant le métabolisme énergétique et en modulant l’expression au niveau de l’hypothalamus de certains neuropeptides impliqués dans la prise alimentaire. Ces résultats suggèrent que l’OxA pourrait réduire l’obésité non seulement en améliorant le métabolisme énergétique mais également en agissant directement via le système nerveux central.
The acid sphingomyelinase (ASM)/ceramide system may provide a useful framework for better understanding SARS-CoV-2 infection and the repurposing of psychotropic medications functionally inhibiting ...the acid sphingomyelinase/ceramide system (named FIASMA psychotropic medications) against COVID-19. We examined the potential usefulness of FIASMA psychotropic medications in patients with psychiatric disorders hospitalized for severe COVID-19, in an observational multicenter study conducted at Greater Paris University hospitals. Of 545 adult inpatients, 164 (30.1%) received a FIASMA psychotropic medication upon hospital admission for COVID-19. We compared the composite endpoint of intubation or death between patients who received a psychotropic FIASMA medication at baseline and those who did not in time-to-event analyses adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, psychiatric and other medical comorbidity, and other medications. FIASMA psychotropic medication use at baseline was significantly associated with reduced risk of intubation or death in both crude (HR = 0.42; 95%CI = 0.31-0.57; p < 0.01) and primary inverse probability weighting (IPW) (HR = 0.50; 95%CI = 0.37-0.67; p < 0.01) analyses. This association was not specific to one FIASMA psychotropic class or medication. Patients taking a FIASMA antidepressant at baseline had a significantly reduced risk of intubation or death compared with those taking a non-FIASMA antidepressant at baseline in both crude (HR = 0.57; 95%CI = 0.38-0.86; p < 0.01) and primary IPW (HR = 0.57; 95%CI = 0.37-0.87; p < 0.01) analyses. These associations remained significant in multiple sensitivity analyses. Our results show the potential importance of the ASM/ceramide system framework in COVID-19 and support the continuation of FIASMA psychotropic medications in these patients and the need of large- scale clinical trials evaluating FIASMA medications, and particularly FIASMA antidepressants, against COVID-19.

°C and 1300
°C, of Ni–Zn ferrites prepared by PIM. In particular, the densification behaviour, microstructure and mechanical properties of samples with toroidal and bar geometry were analyzed at different temperatures. Additionally, the magnetic behaviour (complex permeability and magnetic losses factor) of these compacts was compared with that of samples prepared by conventional powder compaction. Finally, the mechanical behaviour (elastic modulus, flexure strength and fracture toughness) was analyzed as a function of the powder loading of feedstock. The final microstructure of prepared samples was correlated with the macroscopic behaviour. A good agreement was established between the densities and population of defects found in the materials depending on the sintering conditions. In general, the final mechanical and magnetic properties of PIM samples were enhanced relative those obtained by uniaxial compaction.
The application of Powder Injection Molding to Ni–Zn ferrites allowed obtaining samples with density, magnetic and mechanical properties improved in relation to those obtained by uniaxial pressure compaction. Different powder loadings were tested. The best mechanical performance was achieved for 55
vol.%, while samples prepared with 58% powder loading present the higher magnetic properties.
