Addiction to cell phone use is prevalent in the college student population, which not only affects academic life but also often coincides with psychological problems such as anxiety and depression. ...Four institutions of higher education with high detection rates of depression and other psychological disorders in previous years were the setting for this paper’s one-year baseline survey and two follow-up studies. Using mental health scores such as depressive symptoms as the dependent variable and cell phone dependence scores as the independent variable, we explored the association between cell phone dependence and depressive symptoms among college students using a partial least squares regression model that combines the features of principal component analysis and stepwise regression. Finally, we designed a social treatment and adjustment strategy for cell phone dependence, selected six college students with severe cell phone dependence to undergo a semester-long intervention and adjustment, and evaluated the effects. The study found that regardless of gender, there was a significant positive association between cell phone dependence and depressive symptoms among college students, with
= 0.26, 95% CI: 0.31, 0.38 for male students, and
= 0.26, 95% CI: 0.31, 0.39 for female students, and the effect of female dosage was even more pronounced. We scored 15 points. The social intervention adjustment strategy designed in this paper has a better impact on college students suffering from cell phone dependence, which can reduce the time of cell phone use by at least 2 hours or more. This study provides innovative ideas and feasible debugging strategies for managing cell phone use behavior and the mental health of college students.
We introduce and compare typical shaping schemes suitable for optical communications. The geometrically shaped-quadrature amplitude modulation (GS-QAM) formats are characterized by the ...non-equidistant spacing of constellation points, transmitted uniformly, and applied to improve system capacity. On the other hand, the well-known constant composition distribution matcher (CCDM) is applied for the generation of probabilistically shaped QAM (PS-QAM) formats. Mutual information (MI) is used as a metric to analyze the performances of regular/GS/PS-MQAM formats. In a linear amplified spontaneous emission noise limited region, it can be proved by the numerical simulation that MI performances of the GS-8/16QAM are always better than regular 8/16QAM and PS-8/16QAM; the largest shaping gains can be separately reached by PS-32QAM and GS-32QAM. We continue with the experimental demonstration on the 16QAM-based transmission system, and find that GS-16QAM generally has the best MI performance. We also find that the modulation-dependent nonlinear noises of the GS-8/16/32QAM are comparable to that of the regular 8/16/32QAM and generally lower than PS-8/16/32QAM. By using the enhanced Gaussian noise model, we observe that the GS-8/16QAM formats have better performances than regular 8/16QAM and PS-8/16QAM over multi-span transmission. Meanwhile, PS-32QAM formats provide superior performance over a relatively long transmission distance.
We experimentally demonstrate an eight-state continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) over atmospheric turbulence channels. The high secret key rate (SKR) is enabled by 4-D multiplexing ...of 96 channels, i.e., six-channel wavelength-division multiplexing, four-channel orbital angular momentum multiplexing, two-channel polarization multiplexing, and two-channel spatial-position multiplexing. The atmospheric turbulence channel is emulated by a spatial light modulator on which a series of azimuthal phase patterns yielding Andrews' spectrum are recorded. A commercial coherent receiver is implemented at Bob's side, followed by a phase noise cancellation stage, where channel transmittance can be monitored accurately and phase noise can be effectively eliminated. Compared to four-state CV-QKD, eight-state CV-QKD protocol potentially provides a better performance by offering higher SKR, better excess noise tolerance, and longer secure transmission distance. In our proposed CV-QKD system, the minimum transmittances of 0.24 and 0.26 are required for OAM states of 2 (or -2) and 6 (or -6), respectively, to guarantee the secure transmission. A maximum SKR of 3.744 Gb/s is experimentally achievable, while a total SKR of 960 Mb/s can be obtained in case of mean channel transmittances.
Invasive surgical cerebrum biopsy results in delayed treatment for the definitive diagnosis of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). The existent research was aimed at confirming the ...underlying diagnostic miRNAs of distinguishing PCNSL from glioma. A publicly available miRNA expression profiles (GSE139031) from adult PCNSL as well as glioma specimens were provided by GEO datasets. Differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) were filtered between 42 PCNSL patients and 170 glioma patients. Candidate miRNAs were identified through SVM-RFE analysis and LASSO model. ROC assays were operated to determine the diagnostic value of serum miRNAs in distinguishing PCNSL from glioma. StarBase v2.0 was applied to screen the targeting genes of miRNAs, and KEGG analysis was applied using the targeting genes of miRNAs. In this study, we identified 12 dysregulated miRNAs between PCNSL and glioma samples. The ten critical miRNAs (miR-6820-3p, miR-6803-3p, miR-30a-3p, miR-4751, miR-3918, miR-146a-3p, miR-548am-3p, miR-371a-3p, miR-487a-3p, and miR-4756-5p) between these two algorithms were ultimately identified. The results of KEGG revealed that the targeting genes of hsa-miR-3918 were primarily related to MAPK signal pathway, PI3K-Akt signal pathway, and human papillomavirus infection. Overall, bioinformatics analysis revealed that ten miRNAs are potential biomarker for distinguishing PCNSL from glioma.
An overwhelming majority of companies listed in Hong Kong are incorporated in Bermuda/Caribbean jurisdictions. When these firms falter, insolvency proceedings are often commenced in Hong Kong. The ...debtor who wishes to restructure its debts will need to have enforcement actions stayed. Hong Kong does not have a statutory moratorium structure for restructuring purposes. Between 2018 and 2021, Hong Kong's Companies Court addressed this difficulty by granting cross-border assistance, in the form of, inter alia, a stay order, to the debtor's offshore officeholders, whose appointment triggers a stay for restructuring purposes. The Court has recently decided to cease the use of this method. This paper assesses this decision by, inter alia, comparing the stay mechanism in the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross Border Insolvency. It concludes that it is possible, and desirable, to continue the use of the cross-border assistance method without jeopardising the position of the affected parties.
Background The incidence of severe infections (SIs) in patients with autoimmune nephropathy after rituximab (RTX) treatment varies significantly. Our study aims to identify high-risk populations, ...specifically by comparing the differences in the risk of SIs between patients with primary nephropathy and those with nephropathy in the context of systemic autoimmune diseases (referred to as secondary nephropathy). Methods This retrospective cohort study investigated the occurrence of SIs in adult patients with immune-related kidney disease who received RTX treatment at our institution from 2017 to 2022. Multivariable COX regression models were used to analyze the association between the type of nephropathy (primary or secondary) and SIs. Propensity score analyses, subgroup analyses, and E-value calculations were performed to ensure the reliability of the results. Results Out of 123 patients, 32 (26%) developed 39 cases of SIs during a mean follow-up period of 19.7 ± 14.6 months post-RTX treatment, resulting in an incidence rate of 18.9/100 patient-years. The multivariable COX regression analysis indicated that patients with secondary nephropathy had a significantly higher risk of SIs compared to those with primary nephropathy (HR = 5.86, 95% CI: 1.05–32.63, P = 0.044), even after accounting for confounding variables including gender, age, BMI, history of prior SIs, baseline eGFR, lymphocyte counts, IgG levels, and the utilization of other immunosuppressive therapies. Various sensitivity analyses consistently supported these findings, with an E-value of 5.99. Furthermore, advanced age (HR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.01–1.06; P = 0.023), low baseline IgG levels (HR: 0.75; 95% CI: 0.64–0.89; P < 0.001), and recent history of SIs (HR: 5.68; 95% CI: 2.2–14.66; P < 0.001) were identified as independent risk factors. Conclusion The incidence of SIs following RTX administration in patients with autoimmune nephropathy is significant. It is crucial to note that there are distinct differences between the subgroups of primary and secondary nephropathy. Patients with secondary nephropathy, particularly those who are elderly, have low baseline IgG levels, and have a recent history of SI, are more susceptible to SIs.
Renal microvascular lesions, common in lupus nephritis (LN), are associated with long-term poor outcomes. There are mainly five pathological types of renal microvascular lesions in LN: (1) vascular ...immune complex deposits (ICD), (2) arteriosclerosis (AS), (3) thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), (4) non-inflammatory necrotizing vasculopathy (NNV), and (5) true renal vasculitis (TRV). The pathogenesis of renal microvascular lesions in LN remains to be elucidated. The activation and dysfunction of endothelial cells, in addition to the contribution of immune system dysfunction, especially the immune complex-induced vascular inflammation and antiphospholipid antibody-associated thrombotic events, are key mechanisms in the development of vascular lesions in LN that need to be further investigated. Alteration of the microvascular environment produces an acute immunological response that recruits immune cells, such as T cells, monocytes, and macrophages, which induces platelet aggregation with microthrombus formation. There is also increased cytotoxicity caused by cytokines produced by immune cells in the kidney. Identifying the mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of renal microvascular lesions in LN might provide potential targets for the development of novel therapies.
Top‐down estimates using satellite data provide important information on the sources of air pollutants. We develop a sector‐based 4D‐Var framework based on the GEOS‐Chem adjoint model to address the ...impacts of co‐emissions and chemical interactions on top‐down emission estimates. We apply OMI NO2, OMI SO2, and MOPITT CO observations to estimate NOx, SO2, and CO emissions in East Asia during 2005–2012. Posterior evaluations with surface measurements show reduced normalized mean bias (NMB) by 7% (NO2)–15% (SO2) and normalized mean square error (NMSE) by 8% (SO2)–9% (NO2) compared to a species‐based inversion. This new inversion captures the peak years of Chinese SO2 (2007) and NOx (2011) emissions and attributes their drivers to industry and energy activities. The CO peak in 2007 in China is driven by residential and industry emissions. In India, the inversion attributes NOx and SO2 trends mostly to energy and CO trend to residential emissions.
Plain Language Summary
Satellite observations are widely used to estimate air pollutant emissions and evaluate their trends. We design a new method based on Bayesian statistics to estimate emissions of major air pollutants in East Asia according to their sources (e.g., energy, industry, transportation, etc.). Results from this approach show better agreement with independent surface measurements than the previous estimates that use observations to optimize emissions by species and estimates that compile emissions using activity data and emission factors. This method provides a new perspective to analyze the trend of air pollutants by sources and is crucial for countries and regions that lack detailed and timely emission estimates for each source sector.

Verifying the role of H2O2 is a critical challenge for deepening the understanding of the mechanism of peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). In this research, Co, Fe bimetallic organometallic frameworks (ZIF-L@Fe28) were prepared, and their ultrahigh activities via H2O2 generation at Fe and Co sites were experimentally and theoretically verified. The important contribution of H2O2 to 1O2 production was identified through the quantifications of the mutual transformation of active species. Co sites were identified as the most active positions for PMS activation because of they strongly triggered 1O2, SO4·−, ⋅O2−, ·OH, and H2O2. However, the self-quenching of active species suppressed the efficiency and selectivity of 1O2 generation at Co sites. In contrast to Co sites, Fe sites had selective preference for H2O2 generation, and the transformation of H2O2 to 1O2 further enhanced the performance of ZIF-L@Fe28. The supplementary discussion from the perspective of H2O2 will enable the further application of the PMS activation mechanism.
Ground and satellite observations show that air pollution regulations in the United States (US) have resulted in substantial reductions in emissions and corresponding improvements in air quality over ...the last several decades. However, large uncertainties remain in evaluating how recent regulations affect different emission sectors and pollutant trends. Here we show a significant slowdown in decreasing US emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and carbon monoxide (CO) for 2011–2015 using satellite and surface measurements. This observed slowdown in emission reductions is significantly different from the trend expected using US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) bottom-up inventories and impedes compliance with local and federal agency air-quality goals. We find that the difference between observations and EPA’s NOₓ emission estimates could be explained by: (i) growing relative contributions of industrial, area, and off-road sources, (ii) decreasing relative contributions of on-road gasoline, and (iii) slower than expected decreases in on-road diesel emissions.
