Wood chips were used in their original form without any physical or chemical treatment as reinforcement for polypropylene to develop composites as potential replacement for medium density fiber (MDF) ...boards, gypsum based false ceiling and other building materials. Wood chips are generated as byproducts and have limited and low value applications. Composites with up to 90% wood chips were developed through compression molding and the mechanical, acoustic and thermal properties were studied. Further, maleated polypropylene (MAPP) was used (1–5% w/w based on woodchips used) as compatibilizer and changes in properties were recorded. Up to 300% increase in tensile properties were observed when 5% compatibilizer was present. Tensile properties of the composites containing MAPP were higher than that of commercially available medium density plywood boards and also gypsum based ceiling tiles. Addition of MAPP did not change thermal conductivity but decreased sound absorption. Wood chips reinforced PP composites containing MAPP show exceedingly high properties and could replace particle, fiber boards and other building materials in current use. Utilizing the wood waste also results in environmentally friendly, sustainable and low cost building materials.

Turning process variables significantly affect the turning process performance. In the present work, Taguchi technique was applied to optimize the turning process performance during machining of AISI ...304 material under conventional cooling method. Turning process variables such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut were considered for the study. Taguchi L9 orthogonal array (OA) experimental design plan was considered for carrying out the experiments. Cutting temperature, tool wear and surface roughness were considered as output responses. From the results, it was found that the Taguchi technique determined optimum process parameters significantly improved the turning performance. It is recommended that metal cutting industries could use these optimum cutting conditions to reduce the material waste and increase the productivity while machining of AISI 304 material.
Background: Vigna mungo (Blackgram) is the major pulse crop cultivated in the Indian sub-continent. It is highly prone to yellow mosaic disease (YMD), which is widespread problem because all ...cultivated varieties are susceptible to the YMD in Andhra Pradesh state. The presence of two species of begomovirus i.e. Mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) and Mungbean yellow mosaic India virus (MYMIV) with YMD was reported in Andhra Pradesh. The current study was aimed to develop simple method of viral dimer clone construction and identifying the resistant blackgram genotypes against two species of begomovirus (MYMV and MYMIV) by agroinoculation technique. Methods: In this study, we standardize the rolling circle amplification (RCA) based viral dimer clone construction (MYMV DNA-A, MYMV DNA-B and MYMIV DNA-A) and constructed viral dimer clones were used to transform Agrobacterium tumefaciens EHA105 cells through freeze-thaw technique. Sprouted seed method of agroinoculation screening was conducted.
Result: Total 45 blackgram genotypes were screened by sprouted seed method of agroinoculation with two combinations of viral dimeric constructs (MYMV-TPT-A+MYMV-TPT-B and MYMIV-TPT-A+MYMV-TPT-B). Twenty four genotypes offered resistant against MYMV infection and twenty three genotypes were resistant to MYMIV infection. Total 17 genotypes offered resistance to both species of virus (MYMV andMYMIV) associated with YMD.
A facile and catalyst free synthesis of 6H-1-benzopyrano4,3-bquinolin-6-ones has been accomplished via the reaction of 4-chloro-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carbaldehyde with various aromatic amines in the ...presence of ultrasound. Some of these compounds were converted to the corresponding 2-(3-(hydroxymethyl)quinolin-2-yl)phenols and further structure elaboration of a representative quinoline derivative is presented. Molecular structure of two representative compounds was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction study. Many of these compounds were evaluated for their anti-proliferative properties in vitro against four cancer cell lines and several compounds were found to be active. Further in vitro studies indicated that inhibition of sirtuins could be the possible mechanism of action of these molecules.
