The Channel-Spark method was used for deposition of highly oriented ferromagnetic La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 films on NdGaO3 substrates. It was found that additional oxygen decreases the film quality suppressing ...the Curie temperature and metal-insulator transition below the room temperature. To achieve the best quality of the films the samples were either annealed in high vacuum at deposition temperature or even deposited in argon atmosphere with no oxygen annealing. For such films the resistive measurements showed a metallic behaviour in the interval 10-300 K in accordance with the high Curie point (Tc 350 K). Micro-Raman analysis indicate that the La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 films are well ordered, while some outgrowths show stoichiometrical deviations.
The flavonoid myricitrin showed an antidepressant-like effect in the tail suspension test and increased hippocampal neurogenesis, as well as demonstrating anti-inflammatory effects. Interestingly, ...inflammation has been linked to depression, and anti-inflammatory drugs showed promising results as antidepressant-like drugs. Thus, the present study evaluated the effects of myricitrin in the chronic mild stress (CMS) model, a translational and valid animal model of depression, using the mini-experiment design to improve the reproducibility of the findings. The sucrose preference test (SPT), forced swim test (FST), and tail suspension test (TST) were the readouts of depressive-like phenotypes induced by CMS. Relative adrenal weight was employed as an index of the hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis activation. Interleukin (IL)−6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha levels were measured in the hippocampus. Myricitrin (10 mg/kg, intraperitoneally, for 14 days) reversed depressive-like behaviors induced by CMS (increased immobility in the FST, the TST and anhedonia), as well as decreased adrenal hypertrophy and hippocampal levels of IL-6 in stressed mice. Similar results were observed by imipramine (20 mg/kg, intraperitoneally, for 14 days), a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (positive control). A significant correlation was observed between immobility time in the TST, and hippocampal IL-6 levels. Hippocampal TNF-α levels were not affected by CMS or drug treatment. In conclusion, myricitrin exhibited an antidepressant-like profile in CMS, and this effect may be associated with its anti-inflammatory activity.
•Myricitrin had antidepressant-like effects in the chronic mild stress (CMS) model.•Myricitrin blocked hippocampal level increase of interleukine-6 induced by CMS.•Myricitrin reduced CMS-induced Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis activation.•Immobility time in the tail suspension test and IL-6 showed a positive correlation.•Thus, myricitrin shows antidepressant-like effects in the CMS model.

ITC technique is exploited to search dipolar defects, induced in LiF by Ti, whose valence state is not well known. ITC spectra (78-350 K) exhibit at least one peak at 235 K: 1) its amplitude ...increases with nominal Ti-concentration and annealing temperature; 2) its shape does not depend on thermal treatment nor on Ti-concentration nor on the dopant type (TİO 2 or Li 2 TiF 6 );3) it is not a single peak; 4) it is very weak in air grown crystals. Critical analysis of ITC data compared with optical and EPR spectra suggest that Ti 3+ compensated by two cation vacancies is responsible for 235 K peak.
Silk fibroin (SF) is a biocompatible and slowly biodegradable material with excellent mechanical properties and huge potential for use as biofunctional interface in electronic devices that aim to ...stimulate and control neural network activity and peripheral nerve repair. It is shown that SF films act as material interfaces that support the adherence and neurite outgrowth of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons and preserve neuronal functions. Silk films preserve the capability of neuronal cells to fire and DRG neurons on silk films retain the intracellular free Ca2+ concentration (Ca2+i) response to capsaicin, a typical noxious stimulus for this neuronal culture model. It is also demonstrated that nerve growth factor (NGF)‐functionalized silk films promote neurite outgrowth and modulate functional properties of DRG neurons. The results show that silk preserves DRG neuronal physiology and is a promising biomaterial platform for the future development of devices with goals including functional recovery of injured neurons, neurite functional outgrowth in vitro, or functional electrostimulation in vivo.
Silk fibroin (SF) is a natural biomaterial with huge potential for use as a biofunctional interface in electronic devices that aim to stimulate and control neural network activity and peripheral nerve repair. SF films support the adherence and growth of peripheral sensory neurons, preserve neuronal functionalities, and can be funtionalized with trophic factors to promote neurite outgrowth.
SEURAT-1 is a joint research initiative between the European Commission and Cosmetics Europe aiming to develop in vitro- and in silico

based methods to replace the in vivo repeated dose systemic ...toxicity test used for the assessment of human safety. As one of the building blocks of SEURAT-1, the DETECTIVE project focused on a key element on which in vitro toxicity testing relies: the development of robust and reliable, sensitive and specific in vitro biomarkers and surrogate endpoints that can be used for safety assessments of chronically acting toxicants, relevant for humans. The work conducted by the DETECTIVE consortium partners has established a screening pipeline of functional and “-omics” technologies, including high-content and high-throughput screening platforms, to develop and investigate human biomarkers for repeated dose toxicity in cellular in vitro models. Identification and statistical selection of highly predictive biomarkers in a pathway- and evidence-based approach constitute a major step in an integrated approach towards the replacement of animal testing in human safety assessment. To discuss the final outcomes and achievements of the consortium, a meeting was organized in Brussels. This meeting brought together data-producing and supporting consortium partners. The presentations focused on the current state of ongoing and concluding projects and the strategies employed to identify new relevant biomarkers of toxicity. The outcomes and deliverables, including the dissemination of results in data-rich “-omics” databases, were discussed as were the future perspectives of the work completed under the DETECTIVE project. Although some projects were still in progress and required continued data analysis, this report summarizes the presentations, discussions and the outcomes of the project.
The Condalia buxifolia root bark infusion is used in traditional medicine in Brazil as antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and against dysentery. This study was designed to investigate whether the ...methanolic extract of the root bark of Condalia buxifolia (MECb) exhibits antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects in mice. Furthermore, also was investigated the involvement of glutamatergic and opioidergic system in the antinociceptive effect induced by MECb.
The antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of intra-gastric gavage (i.g.) administered MECb (10–300mg/kg) were evaluated in mice subjected to chemical (formalin, acetic-acid, glutamate) or thermal (hot plate) models of pain. The involvement of opioid system in the antinociceptive effect of the MECb was investigated in formalin test. Furthermore, a nonspecific effect of MECb was evaluated by measuring locomotor activity and exploratory behavior in open field test. Finally, was performed a phytochemical analysis of MECb.
The phytochemical analysis of MECb was performed through HPLC analysis showing that the alkaloid Condaline-A is the main constituent. The intragastric administration of MECb (100–300mg/kg) significantly inhibited the nociception caused by acetic acid (48±2%), inflammatory phase (49±3%) and paw edema (32±6) caused by formalin, and MECb (100mg/kg, i.g.) also inhibited nociception caused by glutamate (41±7%). In addition, MECb (100–300mg/kg, i.g.) increased the paw withdrawal latency in hot-plate test, without affecting the locomotor activity and exploratory behavior in open field test. Finally, the antinociceptive effects of MECb (100mg/kg, i.g.) were significantly reversed by naloxone (1mg/kg, i.p.) in the formalin test.
These data show, for the first time, that MECb has significant antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects, which appear to be related to the inhibition of the glutamatergic system and the activation of opioid mechanism, besides present central effects. These results support the use of Condalia buxifolia in traditional medicine and demonstrate that this plant has therapeutic potential for the development of phytomedicines with antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties.
