Proton therapy can treat tumors located in radiation-sensitive tissues. This article demonstrates the possibility of enhancing the proton therapy with targeted gold nanoparticles that selectively ...recognize tumor cells. Au-PEG nanoparticles at concentrations above 25 mg/L and 4 Gy proton dose caused complete death of EMT6/P cells in vitro. Binary proton therapy using targeted Au-PEG-FA nanoparticles caused an 80% tumor growth inhibition effect in vivo. The use of targeted gold nanoparticles is promising for enhancing the proton irradiation effect on tumor cells and requires further research to increase the therapeutic index of the approach.

This article presents the results of a comprehensive survey of the burden of tick-borne infectious diseases (TBIDs) in the Altai region of Russia. Official data for TBID incidence were analyzed and ...201 samples from patients with suspected TBID were studied. Furthermore, questing ticks and ticks recovered from humans were examined to estimate prevalence of TBID-causative agents. The Altai region was determined to have a heightened risk for TBIDs in Russia. The most epidemiologically significant tick-borne illness in this area is spotted fever group rickettsiosis, while nationally in Russia, the leading TBID is Lyme borreliosis. The prevalence of mixed infection was 12.4% among the studied cases. Additionally, the prevalence of poorly studied pathogens - Kemerovo virus (KEMV) and Rickettsia tarasevichiae - in ticks from the Altai region was determined.
Abstract
The study describes optimization stages of Russian medium “DTM-Expert” for express detection of dermatophytic fungi. In order to improve the growth promotion and indicative properties of the ...medium, several variations of nutritive compounds were studied. The medium containing mannitol and glucose as carbon sources showed the best indicative and growth promotion properties. The pH optimum for dermatophytes growth on the DTM-Expert was in the range 4.7-5.5. The indicative properties of the medium were optimal at an initial pH value of 4.8. No significant differences were found when using bromothymol blue as an indicator compared to phenol red. The diagnostic efficiency of the optimized version of the DTM-Expert was 100% while the percentage of false positive results was 5.6%. The efficiency of the control medium was 87% accompanied by 9.2% of false positive reactions. The average reddening time was 10 days on the DTM-Expert and 11 days on the control medium.

cells was studied. The effect of the plasma composition and the time of its exposure on the level of acidity of the aqueous medium and the nature of cell death was found. The obtained results are discussed taking into account the effect of active radicals formed under the action of a plasma jet as well as the delayed reaction of cells to plasma exposure.

The experimental results on the distribution of pulsed nanosecond discharge radiation over the М1000НН ferrite surface are presented. The discharge was excited by high-voltage 300-kV 15-ns pulses. ...The spatial distribution of short (5-ns) X-ray (>750 eV) radiation propagating along the ferrite surface is studied. The radiation divergence is ~4° in the direction perpendicular to the ferrite plane.
High-index dielectric materials are in great demand for nanophotonic devices and applications, from ultrathin optical elements to metal-free sub-diffraction light confinement and waveguiding. Here we ...show that chalcogenide topological insulators are particularly apt candidates for dielectric nanophotonics architectures in the infrared spectral range, by reporting metamaterial resonances in chalcogenide crystals sustained well inside the mid-infrared, choosing Bi

as case study within this family of materials. Strong resonant modulation of the incident electromagnetic field is achieved thanks to the exceptionally high refractive index ranging between 7 and 8 throughout the 2-10 μm region. Analysis of the complex mode structure in the metamaterial allude to the excitation of circular surface currents which could open pathways for enhanced light-matter interaction and low-loss plasmonic configurations by coupling to the spin-polarized topological surface carriers, thereby providing new opportunities to combine dielectric, plasmonic and magnetic metamaterials in a single platform.
The method for searching for ligands exerting an adjuvant effect is described. The method involves isolation of polysomes using an immobilized peptide mimetic of N-acetylglucosaminyl-N-acetylmuramyl ...dipeptide (GMDP) — RN-peptide. After the affinity chromatography and washing, RN-peptide complexes with the target sequences were dissociated with guanidine hydrochloride. The obtained mRNA was used for cDNA synthesis and subsequent cloning in an expression vector. Further studies showed the effectiveness of this method. Clones interacting with the peptide were selected using biotinylated RN-peptide. It was found that all clones encode a sequence identical to the protein YB-1. Recombinant antibodies against protein YB-1 were selected from a phage display human scFv library. Using these antibodies, we determined the binding constant of RN-peptide to protein YB-1. Competitive analysis showed that RN-peptide and GMDP compete for the same portion of YB-1 at molar ratio 1: 12.
