Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol in various plants, has gained significant attention for its potential health‐promoting properties. It has been demonstrated, after reviewing various clinical and ...in vitro studies, that resveratrol possesses potent antioxidant potential. Resveratrol demonstrates cellular component protection by directly neutralizing free radicals (FRs) and enhancing the expression of natural antioxidant enzymes, thereby mitigating oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. Clinical trials have shown promising results, indicating that resveratrol supplementation can enhance antioxidant defenses and reduce oxidative damage markers in various populations. In addition to its antioxidant effects, resveratrol exhibits potent anti‐inflammatory properties. It can modulate key inflammatory pathways, such as nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB) and mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPKs), thereby suppressing the production of pro‐inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, resveratrol's multimodal effects extend beyond its antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties. It has been discovered to exert regulatory effects on various cellular processes, including apoptosis, cell cycle progression, angiogenesis, and immunological responses. The primary aim of this review paper is to provide a thorough overview of the current knowledge on resveratrol, including its chemical composition, bioaccessibility, clinical effectiveness, and utilization in nanotechnology to enhance its bioavailability. From future perspectives, revising the administration methods for certain contexts and understanding the underlying systems responsible for resveratrol's effects will require further inquiry. For the highest potential health results, advanced trial‐based research is necessary for combinational nano‐delivery of resveratrol.
This review article presents a comprehensive summary of the present understanding of resveratrol, encompassing its chemical composition, bioaccessibility, and clinical efficacy. Additionally, this review discusses the employment of nanotechnology to enhance the bioavailability of resveratrol, to counter different disease conditions.
Modulatory effects of serotonin (5‐Hydroxytryptamine 5‐HT) have been seen in hepatic, neurological/psychiatric, and gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. Probiotics are live microorganisms that confer ...health benefits to their host. Recent research has suggested that probiotics can promote serotonin signaling, a crucial pathway in the regulation of mood, cognition, and other physiological processes. Reviewing the literature, we find that peripheral serotonin increases nutrient uptake and storage, regulates the composition of the gut microbiota, and is involved in mediating neuronal disorders. This review explores the mechanisms underlying the probiotic‐mediated increase in serotonin signaling, highlighting the role of gut microbiota in the regulation of serotonin production and the modulation of neurotransmitter receptors. Additionally, this review discusses the potential clinical implications of probiotics as a therapeutic strategy for disorders associated with altered serotonin signaling, such as GI and neurological disorders. Overall, this review demonstrates the potential of probiotics as a promising avenue for the treatment of serotonin‐related disorders and signaling of serotonin.

Waterborne diseases and carcinogenic effects associated with heavy metal poisoning have drawn considerable attentionto removing heavy metals from contaminated water and killing disease-causing ...bacteria. In this regard, γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by ion reduction method, while CuO NPsand γ-Fe2O3–CuO nanocomposites (NCs) by hydrothermal method. XRD, FTIR, FESEM, EDX and UV–visible spectroscopy were used for system characterization. The dumbbell shape of CuO NPs and spherical shape of γ-Fe2O3 NPs and γ-Fe2O3@CuO NCs were indicated via SEM analysis. The elemental composition and successful synthesis of γ-Fe2O3@CuONCs were confirmed by EDX results. The order for elemental composition: O > Cu > Fe showed the higher content ratio of Cu and O while Fe has the lowest content. The antibacterial activities against E. Coli and B. subtili were evaluated by Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Zone of Inhibition. γ-Fe2O3@CuO NCs showed excellent antibacterial performance as compared to γ-Fe2O3 NPs,CuO NPs, commercial Cu NPs and Cu salt. The drastic improvement in properties of γ-Fe2O3@CuO NCs resulted in better surface contact and extensive cell membranes rupture to eliminate bacterial pathogens present in wastewater Batch adsorption experiments were performed for selective removal of toxic Pb2+ ionsexisting in polluted water. The greatest adsorption capacity was determined to be 346 mg/g, and the highest removal percentage of 95 % was achieved at pH 4 in 60 min. Isotherm models and kinetic studies indicated that Pb2+ ions followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The results obtained from batch adsorption experiment revealed γ-Fe2O3@CuO NCs as effective nanosorbent for quick elimination of toxic metal ions from industrial wastewater.

The efficacy and safety of bivalirudin when used concurrently with glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors (GPI) is uncertain. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy ...and safety of bivalirudin versus heparin in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and to explore the impact of differential use (greater and balanced) of GPI.
Online databases were queried from inception to March 2023 to identify eight randomized controlled trials (n = 22,483) for inclusion. The primary outcomes included all-cause mortality, major bleeding, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), and net adverse clinical events (NACE). Secondary efficacy endpoints included cardiac death, reinfarction, stent thrombosis (ST), and stroke. Data were pooled using a random-effects model to derive risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
When compared to heparin, bivalirudin was associated with a significant reduction in all-cause mortality (RR 0.83; 95% CI 0.72-0.97; P = 0.02), major bleeding (RR 0.73; 95% CI 0.57-0.93; P = 0.01), cardiac death (RR 0.79; 95% CI 0.66-0.94; P = 0.01), and NACE (RR 0.80; 95% CI 0.72-0.89; P < 0.0001). However, while the bivalirudin arm showed an increased likelihood of ST in the greater GPI subgroup (RR 1.70; 95% CI 1.13-2.56; P = 0.01), it was associated with a decreased likelihood of ST in the balanced GPI subgroup (RR 0.40; 95% CI 0.24-0.65; P = 0.0003).
Overall, our findings suggest that bivalirudin may be a more efficacious intervention than heparin for reducing certain adverse events in patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI.

A systematic search of two databases (PubMed and Cochrane CENTRAL) was conducted from inception to January 2023 and a total of 21 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) were identified and included in the analysis. Data were pooled using Hedges's g and a Mantel-Haenszel random-effects model to derive standard mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (Cis). The primary outcome studied was the effect of these treatments on lipid parameters and safety events.
The results revealed that combination therapy was more effective in reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels (SMD= - 0.41; CI - 0.63 to - 0.19; P = 0.0002). There was no significant change in the levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), Apo A1, or Apo B. The safety of these treatments was assessed by the following markers alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and creatine phosphokinase (CK), and a significant difference was only observed in CK (SMD: - 0.81; CI - 1.52 to - 0.10; P = 0.02).
This meta-analysis demonstrated that the use of low/moderate-intensity statin combination therapy significantly reduced LDL-C levels compared with high-intensity statin monotherapy, making it preferable for patients with related risks. However, further trials are encouraged to evaluate potential adverse effects associated with combined therapy.
A comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) was conducted for the matchsticks industry in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan to quantify environmental footprint, water footprint, cumulative ...energy use, and to identify improvement opportunities in the matchsticks manufacturing process. One carton of matchsticks was used as reference unit for this study. Foreground data was collected from the matchsticks industry through questionnaire surveys, personal meetings, and field measurements. The collected data was transformed into potential environmental impacts through the Centre for Environment Studies (CML) 2000 v.2.05 method present by default in the SimaPro v.9.1 software. Water footprint was calculated using methodology developed by Hoekstra et al., 2012 (water scarcity index) V1.02 and cumulative energy demand by SimaPro v.9.1 software. The results showed that transport of primary material (wood logs), sawn wood for matchsticks, red phosphorous, acrylic varnish, and kerosene fuel oil contributed to the overall environmental impacts. Transport of primary materials and sawn timber for matchsticks contributed significantly to abiotic depletion, global warming, eutrophication potential, ozone depletion, corrosion, human toxicity, and aquatic ecotoxicity effects. The total water footprint for manufacturing one carton of matchsticks was 0.265332 m3, whereas the total cumulative energy demand was 715.860 Mega Joules (MJ), mainly sourced from non-renewable fossil fuels (708.979 MJ). Scenario analysis was also conducted for 20% and 30% reduction in the primary material distance covered by trucks and revealed that reducing direct material transport distances could diminish environmental impacts and energy consumption. Therefore, environmental footprint could be minimized through diverting matchsticks industries freight from indigenous routes to high mobility highways and by promoting industrial forestry close to industrial zones in Pakistan. Many industries did not have emissions control systems, exceeding the permissible limit for emissions established by the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) of Pakistan. Thus, installation of emissions control system could also diminish emissions from match industry in Pakistan.
Aims Pro re Nata (PRN) psychotropic medication prescription and administration play a crucial role in addressing patients’ immediate needs and medical care plans in acute mental health services. ...However, regarding the appropriate indication, use, and documentation of PRN medication prescription, review, and administration practices should be as per NICE guidelines to ensure patient safety and care quality. This audit will encompass an evaluation of PRN medication prescription in acute inpatient psychiatry as per NICE guidelines and a reaudit after recommendations implementation. Methods We made 8 sets of questionnaires based on The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommendation for PRN prescription as per local trust policy. We collected data from 28 patients in the acute inpatient mental health unit for the first cycle. Data was collected from patients' records which included medicine charts, progress notes, and MDT reviews. We analyzed data from the first cycle and implemented changes in Clinical practice. This includes including these guidelines in junior doctor induction, weekly discussion with team pharmacist, adding prompts in medication chart, and weekly review of PRN medication in ward MDT. After 2 months we collected data of 25 patients for reaudit. Results We analyzed first-cycle data, which required improvement as per AUDIT standard compliance. We implemented recommendations before reaudit. We found there were significant improvements in some areas of concern, although this was not 100 percent audit standard. This area includes a review of PRN medication prescriptions in the last 7 days (25 percent in the first cycle, 56 percent in reaudit), grouping them if both oral and intramuscular formulations were prescribed to avoid overdose (7.2 percent, 28 percent), documentation of minimum (10.7 percent, 24 percent) and maximum dose (100 percent, 100 percent) of PRN within 24 hours, documentation of indication (100 percent, 96 percent). Conclusion The findings of this audit and recommendations after the first cycle of audit contribute to enhancing quality of PRN medication prescription practice in acute inpatient mental health services for health care professionals. Addressing potential areas of prescription, administration, and review and providing valuable recommendations and insight for improvement of patient safety and best clinical practice.
SUMMARYFowl adenoviruses (FAdVs), belonging to the family Adenoviridae, pose an increasing threat to the poultry industry worldwide. An emerging trend of FAdV-associated diseases such as inclusion ...body hepatitis (IBH) and hepatitis hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) has caused significant economic losses to the poultry industry in the last two decades globally. This review mainly focuses on the molecular analysis of the FAdV major capsid proteins and their role in the development of vaccine candidates and anti-FAdV agents. Moreover, this review encompasses a general overview of the contemporary local and global scenarios of IBH, HPS and Gizzard erosion, and also covers control strategies. Significant progress has been made on the vaccine development front to prevent IBH and HPS. However, efforts should also be focused on devising control strategies for other diseases, especially gizzard erosion which is currently spreading in several countries. This review enhances our understanding of FAdV-associated diseases and strategies to control FAdV associated outbreaks.

To explore, through a multi-centric, randomized, controlled and prospective study, the possible role played by a form berberine that is more easily absorbed (Berberine Phytosome
, BP) in 130 Pakistani women with a diagnosis of PCOS and fertility problems due to menstrual and ovary abnormalities.
Ninety days of supplementation with BP, administered at 550 mg x2/
, determined (i) resumption of regular menstruation in about 70% of women (
16% in the control group;
< 0.0001), (ii) normalization of the ovaries anatomy in more than 60% of women (
13% in the control group;
< 0.0001), (iii) acne improvement in 50% of women (
16% in the control group;
= 0.0409) and (iv) hirsutism reduction in 14% of women (
0% in the control group;
= 0.0152). The metabolic and the hormonal profiles of the women in the two groups did not significantly differentiate at the end of the study. BP was well-tolerated and no specific side-effects were registered. Respectively after one, two and 8 years of trying, three women supplemented with BP became and are currently pregnant.
Our study showed the positive effects of BP supplementation in women with PCOS and confirmed the high safety profile of this nutraceutical.
