The integrated Structure-Actor-Water framework (iSAW) was used to develop a set of indicators to select an irrigation system according to its sustainability impact on agriculture. The analysis ...hierarchical process (AHP) was used to explore the views of 60 agricultural water stakeholders, such as specialists, extension experts, agricultural NGO staff, and farmers across Ardabil Province in Iran. Participants were selected using the snowball method and interviewed using a 42-item questionnaire to measure the relative importance of nine indicators for choosing the best irrigation system. The results reveal that (i) all groups of stakeholders preferred pressurized irrigation systems (PISs) (69%) with respect to agricultural sustainability; (ii) indicators of employment and income had a relative weight of.26, productivity.20, improved quality of life.16, and agricultural expansion.14, when it comes to making decisions regarding irrigation systems; and (iii) with the exception of specialists, the other participants - farmers, NGO staff, and extension experts - made similar decisions when choosing the best irrigation systems. The results show the usefulness of iSAW as a decision-making framework and the proposed methodological approach to decision-making concerning water issues in highlighting the socio-economic aspects that must be closely coordinated in order to meet sustainability objectives for the irrigated agriculture sector.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease, with unknown etiology. Vitamins, as important micronutrients playing different roles in body, seem to be important in MS ...pathogenesis. In vitro, in vivo and human studies, supports the protective role of some vitamins in MS occurrence or progression. Current study reviews recent insights and reports about the importance of vitamins in MS incidence or progression. In accordance, the importance of all water and fat-soluble vitamins in MS pathogenesis based on observational studies in human population and their role in the function of immune system as well as possible therapeutic opportunities are discussed in depth throughout this review.

This study applies the mental model and cognitive mapping method to involve stakeholders in delineating the mutual relations between sources of water, energy, and food (WEF) production in the Varamin ...Plain (VP). Through involving farmers and managerial experts, the approach facilitates the deployment of community communication patterns to recognize and comprehend problems and move from single-loop learning to double-loop learning. The dynamic model was driven from the final mental model of the participants to reflect changes in the systems over time. The system dynamic (SD) model incorporates three scenarios for enhancing irrigation efficiency, managing groundwater extraction, and satisfying environmental needs. The results uncovered that the surface and underground water resources of the VP will gradually decrease within the next two decades in the range of 158 and 2700 million cubic meters (MCM) per year. Also, the plain suffers from water insecurity and a 162 MCM shortage. Consequently, focusing on understanding the nexus and nexus governance can enhance resource management and achieve sustainable development goals. Essentially, promoting collaborative governance, such as creating cooperative organizations and implementing double-loop learning, and instituting a water market, regulatory governance, and monitoring laws can improve the state of Varamin Plain’s resources. These results carry important policy implications for using mental models to consider dynamics for discussions on participatory management of the WEF system nexus and environmental management.
Alexithymia is a cognitive-affective impairment, suggested to be associated with emotion regulation. Herein, we investigated white matter (WM) tracts with Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DMRI) ...connectometry approach using quantitative anisotropy (QA) tractography to discover possible associations between the emotion identification and regulation patterns and WM tracts.
DMRI data were acquired from 218 healthy subjects aging 39.15 ± 20.19 who filled the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) and emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ) from the LEMON dataset. Connectometry analysis was applied on WM tracts in DMRI images.
DMRI connectometry analysis revealed a significant correlation between TAS identification score and increased microstructural connectivity in WM pathways, including the body of corpus callosum (CC), bilateral fornix, and left arcuate fasciculus (AF) in males (FDR = 0.028), and corticospinal and cingulum tracts in females (FDR = 0.026). Furthermore, we found a significant positive correlation between overall TAS score and fornix properties in men (FDR = 0.026) and corticospinal tracts in women (FDR = 0.028). Middle cerebellar peduncle negatively correlated with describing emotion (FDR = 0.025) and the splenium of the CC and corticospinal tracts negatively correlated with this subscale (FDR = 0.049) in male group. However, the splenium of the CC, corticospinal tracts, and left AF positively associated with this subscale (FDR = 0.029). The splenium of the CC was negatively related to externally-oriented thinking among men (FDR = 0.038). Our results showed marginally associations between ERQ and similar WM tracts.
Certain WM microstructures significantly correlate with emotion identification and regulation. These tracts are associated with specific somatosensory areas, language processing areas, and limbic area.

Systemic inflammation during infectious disorders usually accompanies chronic complications including cognitive dysfunction. Neuroinflammation and cognitive deficit are also observed in some ...debilitating neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Genistein is a soy isoflavone with multiple beneficial effects including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and protective properties. In this research study, the effect of genistein in prevention of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cognitive dysfunction was investigated. LPS was given i.p. (500 μg/kg/day) and genistein was orally given (10, 50, or 100 mg/kg) for one week. Findings showed that genistein could dose-dependently attenuate spatial recognition, discrimination, and memory deficits. Additionally, genistein treatment of LPS-challenged group lowered hippocampal level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and increased activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase and glutathione (GSH) level. Furthermore, genistein ameliorated hippocampal acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in LPS-challenged rats. Furthermore, genistein administration to LPS-injected group lowered hippocampal level of interleukin 6 (IL-6), nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) p65, toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and increased hippocampal level of antioxidant element nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2). In conclusion, genistein alleviated LPS-induced cognitive dysfunctions and neural inflammation attenuation of oxidative stress and AChE activity and appropriate modulation of Nrf2/NF-κB/IL-6/TNFα/COX2/iNOS/TLR4/GFAP.

Polyvinyl pyrrolidone or povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is a water-soluble complex formed by the combination of iodine and a water-soluble polymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone. This complex exerts bactericidal, ...fungicidal, and virucidal action by gradually releasing free iodine at the site of application to react with pathogens. In ophthalmology, PVP-I is used as a disinfectant and antiseptic agent for preoperative preparation of the skin and mucous membranes and for treating contaminated wounds. PVP-I has been shown to reduce effectively the risk of endophthalmitis in various ocular procedures, including cataract surgery and intravitreal injections; however, it has also been used in the treatment of conjunctivitis, keratitis, and endophthalmitis, with promising results especially in low-resource situations. PVP-I has been associated with complications such as postoperative eye pain, persistent corneal epithelial defects, ocular inflammation, and an attendant risk of keratitis. In cases of poor PVP-I tolerance, applying PVP-I at lower concentrations or using alternative antiseptics such as chlorhexidine should be considered. We provide an update on the efficacy of PVP-I in the prophylaxis and treatment of conjunctivitis, keratitis, and endophthalmitis and a comprehensive analysis of the current literature regarding the use of PVP-I in the management of these ocular conditions. Also, PVP-I-related adverse effects and toxicities and its alternatives are discussed. The goal is to present a thorough evaluation of the available evidence and to offer practical recommendations for clinicians regarding the therapeutic usage of PVP-I in ophthalmology.
Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) is highlighted by high incidence of mortality and morbidity. Scutellarin is a flavone extracted from certain medicinal plants with anti-inflammatory and ...anti-oxidative properties. This research study was done to investigate the beneficial effect of scutellarin on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) murine model of AKI.
Five groups of mice were used including control (without LPS injection), LPS group (LPS injection, 10 mg/kg), and LPS + Scutellarin25, 50, and/or 100 groups (receiving scutellarin orally at different doses of 25, 50, or 100 mg/kg before LPS injection).
Scutellarin pretreatment effectively lowered kidney function markers (BUN, creatinine, and cystatin C), improved superoxide dismutase (SOD) besides enhancement of level, and/or gene expression for nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and also reduced oxidative stress factors including reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA). In addition, scutellarin reduced tissue level and/or gene expression of inflammatory markers comprising toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and properly raised anti-inflammatory factor IL-10. Moreover, scutellarin enhanced mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and attenuated histopathological changes in renal tissue subsequent to LPS challenge. Beneficial effects of scutellarin was associated with improvement of gene expression regarding peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and its coactivator PGC-1α as specific markers of mitochondrial biogenesis.
These results indicate that scutellarin could protect against LPS-provoked AKI through restraining inflammation and oxidative stress and maintenance of mitochondrial health and biogenesis which is partly mediated through its regulation of Nrf2/PPAR-γ/PGC-1α/NF-kB/TLR4.
Context: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is considered a major public health concern in today's world. Sepsis-induced AKI is large as a result of exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) that is the major ...outer membrane component of Gram-negative bacteria. Sesamin is the main lignan of sesame seeds with multiple protective effects.
Objective: In this research, we tried to demonstrate the protective effect of sesamin pretreatment in LPS-induced mouse model of AKI.
Methods: LPS was injected at a single dose of 10 mg/kg (i.p.) and sesamin was given p.o. at doses of 25, 50, or 100 mg/kg, one hour prior to LPS.
Results: Treatment of LPS-challenged mice with sesamin reduced serum level of creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and returned back renal oxidative stress-related parameters including glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and activity of catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Moreover, sesamin alleviated inappropriate changes of renal nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB), toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2), tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), interleukin-6, DNA fragmentation (an apoptotic index), and nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2). In addition, sesamin diminished magnitude of kidney tissue damage due to LPS.
Conclusion: In summary, sesamin could dose-dependently abrogate LPS-induced AKI via attenuation of renal oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis.
In the present study, beneficial effect of S‐allyl cysteine (SAC) was evaluated in the lipopolysaccharide/d‐galactosamine (LPS/d‐Gal) model of acute liver injury (ALI). To mimic ALI, LPS and d‐Gal ...(50 μg/kg and 400 mg/kg, respectively) were intraperitoneally administered and animals received SAC per os (25 or 100 mg/kg/d) for 3 days till 1 hour before LPS/d‐Gal injection. Pretreatment of LPS/d‐Gal group with SAC‐lowered activities of alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase and partially reversed inappropriate alterations of hepatic oxidative stress‐ and inflammation‐related biomarkers including liver reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde, and hepatic activity of the defensive enzyme superoxide dismutase, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), toll‐like receptor‐4 (TLR4), cyclooxygenase 2, NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), caspase 1, nuclear factor κB (NF‐κB), interleukin 1β (IL‐1β), IL‐6, tumor necrosis factor‐α, and myeloperoxidase activity. Additionally, SAC was capable to ameliorate apoptotic biomarkers including caspase 3 and DNA fragmentation. In summary, SAC can protect liver against LPS/d‐Gal by attenuation of neutrophil infiltration, oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and pyroptosis which is partly linked to its suppression of TLR4/NF‐κB/NLRP3 signaling.

Objectives
To investigate predictors of surgical outcomes for mild Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy (DCM) by reviewing all related studies conducted at this point.
...Methods
An electronic search was carried out in PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science until June 23, 2021. Full-text articles reporting surgical outcome predictors of mild DCM cases were eligible. We included studies with mild DCM which was defined as a modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score of 15 to 17 or a Japanese Orthopaedic Association score of 13 to 16. Independent reviewers screened all the records, and discrepancies between the reviewers were solved in a session with the senior author. For risk of bias assessment, RoB 2 tool was used for randomized clinical trials and ROBINS-I for non-randomized studies.
Results
After screening 6 087 manuscripts, only 8 studies met the inclusion criteria. Lower pre-operative mJOA scores and quality-of-life measurement scores were reported by multiple studies to predict better surgical outcomes compared to other groups. High-intensity pre-operative T2 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was also reported to predict poor outcomes. Neck pain before intervention resulted in improved patient-reported outcomes. Two studies also reported motor symptoms prior to surgery as outcome predictors.
Conclusion
Lower quality of life before surgery, neck pain, lower pre-operative mJOA scores, motor symptoms before surgery, female gender, gastrointestinal comorbidities, surgical procedure and surgeon’s experience with specific techniques, and high signal intensity of cord in T2 MRI were the surgical outcome predictors reported in the literature. Lower Quality of Life (QoL) score and neck prior to surgery were reported as predictors of the more improved outcome, but high cord signal intensity in T2 MRI was reported as an unfavorable outcome predictor.
