The main physics goal of the NA62 experiment at CERN is to precisely measure the branching ratio of the Kaon rare decay K+→π+νν‾. This decay is strongly suppressed in the Standard Model. On the other ...hand its branching ratio is calculated with high accuracy. NA62 is designed to measure the K+→π+νν‾ decay rate with an uncertainty better than 10%. The measurement can serve as a probe to some new physics phenomena, which can alter the decay rate. The NA62 experiment has been successfully launched in October 2014. The theory framework as well as the NA62 detector and the preliminary results are reviewed in this article.
We here report a pharmacological characterization of two new somatostatin (SS) receptor subtype-2 (sst2) selective antagonists by evaluating their GH-releasing activity when administered, by ...different routes, in anesthetized adult rats and in freely moving 10-d-old rats. Moreover, we describe the effect of these SS antagonists on the GH response to GHRH after short-term high-dose dexamethasone (DEX) treatment in young male rats. BIM-23454 and BIM-23627, given iv, were able to counteract the SS-induced inhibition of GH secretion occurring after urethane anesthesia in a dose-dependent manner. In DEX-treated animals, the GH response to GHRH was partially blunted (5-min peak values, 270 +/- 50 ng/ml in saline-treated vs. 160 +/- 10 ng/ml in DEX-treated, P < 0.05); however, the simultaneous administration of BIM-23627 (0.2 mg/kg, iv) restored higher amplitude GH pulse, leading to a significantly higher overall mean GH response (area under the curve, 4200 +/- 120 ng/ml/30 min vs. 2800 +/- 100 ng/ml/30 min after GHRH alone; P < 0.05). The SS antagonists showed a reduced GH-releasing effect when administered sc or ip, likely attributable to decreased bioavailability, as compared with the iv route. SS antagonist administration also increased plasma glucagon, insulin, and glucose levels. Based on prior reports that sst2 tonically suppresses glucagon secretion, the antagonist most likely increased glucagon secretion from the pancreatic alpha-cells, with resultant increases in plasma glucose and then insulin.
The NA48/2 experiment at CERN has collected large samples of charged kaons decaying into a pion and two muons for the search of heavy nuetrinos. In addition, its successor NA62 has set new limits on ...the rate of charged kaon decay into a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) and a lepton, with l = e; μ, using the data collected in 2007 and 2015. New limits on heavy neutrinos from kaon decays into pions, muons and positrons are presented in this report.
The NA62 experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is currently taking data to measure the ultra-rare decay K + → π + ν ν ¯ . The high-intensity setup, trigger flexibility, detector ...performance and high-efficiency vetoes make NA62 also suitable for direct searches of long-lived, beyond-the-Standard-Model particles, such as Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNLs), Axion-Like Particles (ALPs) and Dark Photons (DPs); moreover, many rare and forbidden decays are studied at NA62. The status of all these searches is reviewed, together with prospects for future data taking at NA62 after the CERN Long Shutdown 2 (LS2).
The NA62 experiment at CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is currently taking data to measure the ultra-rare decay K + → π + ν ν ¯ . This decay, whose Branching Ratio (BR) is predicted with high ...precision within the Standard Model (SM), is one of the best candidates to reveal the indirect effects of New Physics (NP) at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment is designed to measure BR ( K + → π + ν ν ¯ ) with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018; statistics collected in 2016 allows NA62 to reach the SM sensitivity for this decay, reaching the single event sensitivity (SES) and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. The preliminary result on BR ( K + → π + ν ν ¯ ) from the analysis of the 2016 data set is described.
Large samples of charged kaon decays have been collected by the NA48/2 (2003-2004), the NA62-R
K
(2007) and the NA62 (2015) experiments at CERN SPS. This proceedings summarizes upper limits on heavy ...neutrino production measured by these experiments. The results from the 2015 data analysis at the NA62 experiment are preliminary.
This paper presents results from the Photovoltaic Array Space Power Plus Diagnostics (PASP Plus) experiment flown on board the Advanced Photovoltaic and Electronics Experiments (APEX) satellite. Ten ...solar arrays encompassing a wide range of solar cell material and manufacturing techniques were operated at bias levels ranging from -75 V to -500 V. Comparisons in are rate between solar arrays are made as well as correlations of arc rate versus bias voltage, electron density, array temperature, and ram/wake angle.
Looking for phenomena beyond the Standard Model (SM) in rare decays is a complementary approach to direct searches for New Physics (NP) at colliders. One of the theoretically cleanest processes is ...the ultra rare decay K+ → π+νν̄. The goal of the NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is to measure the branching ratio (BR) of this decay with 10% precision. The experiment has been launched in 2014. In 2015, the detector was commissioned at a low intensity beam. The experimental setup is described and performances achieved in 2015 are discussed in view of the final measurement.
