A new teaching methodology was tested at a private college, which delivers business studyprograms on the undergraduate and graduate level. The combination of video-lectures with live classactivities ...(discussions, case study solving) was used in the course which provides studentscompetences for managing growing small and medium-sized business. Full- and part-time studentsparticipated in the two separated classes with identical study program and the same methodologicalapproach was applied to assess the teaching approach. The main objective of the study was toexamine the possible differences between the two groups of studies. In total 126 students participatedin the study and the data collection was done with a survey. Several statistically significantdifferences were revealed. The most important finding is that part-time students were much lessenthusiastic for the delivered teaching approach. It looks like they appreciated more the liveinteraction with other students and with the teacher and probably saw the opportunity of activeparticipation as the main added value of the studies. The implication of the study is that coursedesign, which includes video, should carefully take into account the two types of students addressed.
Entrepreneurship has been a gender-defined phenomenon for several decades. It has been presented as a typically male domain which for its demanding performance requires typical male characteristics. ...In this paper, we follow the suggestions of researchers of female entrepreneurs and focus on the research of three groups of female entrepreneurs. We propose that female entrepreneurs in different life stages have distinguished forms of human and social capital, and we apply the factors of those capitals to be measured. We observe the influence of parents, maternity as a metaphor for family involvement and family responsibilities, friends, and the broader environment on social capital. We discussed female entrepreneurship using two functions - as emotional support and incentives and as an instrumental social capital that provides access to information, resources and business partners. We added previous entrepreneurial experience, the level of education attained, business knowledge acquired at school and specific training, industry experience, previous managerial experience to the human capital function. With our model, we introduced the theory of life expectancy of women into entrepreneurship theory, which brings us closer to understanding the external influences on entrepreneurial aspirations and motivations of women of different ages.
Čeprav Evropska komisija v strateških dokumentih daje vse večji poudarek mehkim veščinam, ki naj bi bile ključne za doseganje ciljev bolonjskega procesa, se zdi, da te veščine še niso našle prave ...poti v visokošolske izobraževalne programe. Razlog je deloma v tradicionalistični usmeritvi visokošolskega prostora, ki daje prednost znanstvenim podlagam študijskih programov pred njihovo aplikativno vrednostjo. Študija se ukvarja z vprašanjem ključnih mehkih veščin, ki bi jih bilo smiselno povezati s študijskimi programi bodisi kot sestavni del študijskih programov (del modulov ali samostojni modul) bodisi kot zunajštudijskeoblike. Na podlagi raziskave, ki je bila opravljena med kadrovskimi strokovnjaki v šestih državah, je bil prepoznan relativni pomen posameznih mehkih veščin, ki so bile razvrščene v tri ključne skupine: osebne, socialne in metodološko/kontekstualne. V zaključnem delu študije so podani predvideni študijski cilji pri vključevanju mehkih veščin v visokošolske študijske programe.
Students with family business background have three options once it comes to career path decision. This makes the career choice more complex compared to a classical dilemma between seeking an ...employment and starting a new venture. Based on GUESSS 2013/14 survey conducted in 34 countries with 109 000 participants the influence of personal factors influencing student's career choice in transition countries and countries with developed market economy in Europe was analyzed. By drawing on theory of planned behavior, risk attitudes and family business performance the difference between the two observed groups was investigated. It was found that common denominator of almost fifty years of planned economy in transition countries does influence their career choice intentions especially in terms of personal behavior control, subjective norms and risk attitudes. Findings, based on comparative approach, suggest that environmental context is an important influencing factor which should be considered in further studies of the field.
The significance of individual and family traits has been the main focus of recent studies on family business succession; nevertheless, regional effects have frequently been overlooked. Using ...individual level cross-country data, this study examines the effects of regional circumstances on the career choice intentions of family business heirs regarding employment, starting their own entrepreneurial venture, or family firm succession. By employing data from the 2018 GUESSS survey and applying binominal logistic regression, we have discovered that two groups of several nations (European and non-European Mediterranean countries) have several differences. We also show that individual features in the family firm, and start-up time, are significant factors, even beyond conditions such as university environment, entrepreneurship in the curricula, entrepreneurial attitudes, locus of control, power distance and subjective norms. Policies regarding company succession and related firm survival should be particularly based on various macroeconomic and youth labour market factors in order to reduce succession failures.
