Introduction: Composite resins are widely used in clinical dental practice to restore the structure lost by caries and dental defects, achieving aesthetic and functional results. Failures in the ...photoactivation process can cause problems in the mechanical resistance to wear in regions of direct occlusal contact on the restorative material. This occurs due to the reduction in the degree of conversion of monomers into polymers, compromising the clinical performance of the composite resin. Polymerization shrinkage leads to microleakage of the restoration, leading to staining and the development of bacterial biofilms. Objective: It was to carry out a systematic review of the main scientific evidence of biofilm formation on composite resin veneers, identifying potential predictors, as well as proposals to mitigate this problem. Methods: The systematic review rules of the PRISMA Platform were followed. The search was carried out from December 2022 to March 2023 in the Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases, using articles from 2015 to 2022. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed accordingly, according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: A total of 125 articles were found, 25 articles were evaluated and 20 were included and developed in this systematic review study. Considering the Cochrane tool for risk of bias, the overall assessment resulted in 10 studies with a high risk of bias and 70 studies that did not meet GRADE. It was concluded that the surface properties of resin-based composite materials, as well as surface treatments, can strongly affect bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. In addition, scientific evidence highlights that cariogenic biofilm formation can alter the surface properties of materials, thus stimulating bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. Photoactivation allows the curing and crosslinking of polymer chains, essential for the clinical longevity of the composite resin. Insufficient photoactivation culminates in marginal microleakage in restorations and biofilm accumulation on surfaces exposed to the oral environment.
Background
Post Covid‐19 syndrome is recognized as the maintenance of disease symptoms for weeks to months after the disease has healed. It is suspected that the involvement of the ACE enzyme and ...IL‐6 may trigger an increased risk of dementia.
Method
This is a cohort study that is evaluating over 12 months the functional status and cognition of elderly people after hospital discharge. One group is composed of elderly people admitted to the hospital for Covid‐19 and the other group is composed of elderly people hospitalized for other clinical reasons. The groups are evaluated with The Mattis (DRS), AD8, IQCODE, ADCS‐ADL, PCL‐C, GDS‐15, FIM, COPM, CFS, FSS, mMRC and SARC‐calf. We will describe the preliminary results of the first 15 patients included in the COVID‐19 group on functional status, cognition, mood and quality of life.
Results
Fifteen patients with COVID‐19 were evaluated three months after hospital discharge. One was excluded due to previous mental disorder and another due to a request to be excluded from the study. We found a mean age of 67.7 ± 7.15 years, schooling 8.7 ± 4.7 years, 61.5% female, Charlson Comorbidity Index 1.9 ± 1.4, 69.2% with smoking history had incomplete vaccine protection for COVID‐19. Considering cognition, 15.4% of the sample had no impairment, 53.9% had mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (30.8% amnestic MCI and 23.1% non‐amnesic MCI) and 30.8% had dementia. 23.1% declared their health status and quality of life as fair or poor. Median CFS was 5 (3‐5), mean GDS‐15 was 4.7 ± 2.9, FSS 32.9 ± 18.9, PCL‐c 32.6 ± 12.5, SARC‐calf 3.2 ± 4.2. All had mMRC dyspnea classified between 2 and 4.
Conclusion
There was a high prevalence of mild cognitive impairment and dementia among patients after three months of discharge, with a predominance of mild frailty due to CFS and the presence of fatigue. It is noteworthy that a quarter of the sample reported low quality of life.
Assessing fish consumption is complex and involves several factors; however, the use of questionnaires in surveys and the use of the Internet as tool to collect data have been considered promising ...approaches. Therefore, the objective of this research was to design a data collection technique using a questionnaire to assess fish consumption by making it available on a specific home page on the Internet. A bibliographical survey or review was carried out to identify the features of the instrument, and therefore pre-tests were conducted with previous instruments, followed by the Focus Group technique. Specialists then performed an analysis and conducted an online pre-test. Multivariate data analysis was applied using the SmartPLS software. The results indicate that 1.966 participants belonging to the University of São Paulo (USP) community participated in the test, and after the exclusion of some variables, a statistically significant results were obtained. The final constructs comprised consumption, quality, and general characteristics. The instrument consisted of behavioral statements in a 5-point Likert scale and multiple-choice questions. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was 0.66 for general characteristics, 0.98 for quality, and 0.91 for consumption, which indicate good reliability of the instrument. In conclusion, the results proved that the Internet assessment is efficient. The instrument of analysis allowed us to better understand the process of buying and consuming fish in the country, and it can be used as base for further research.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between the products' market price and attributes related to fish purchase and consumption within a university community in Brazil. A structured ...questionnaire consisting of a five-point Likert scale was used. It was previously tested and made available to the university community via the Internet. The sample comprised 1966 voluntaries including university students and faculty and staff members. A descriptive analysis of data was performed using Spearman's correlation analysis. The results showed that the majority of the respondents (56%) consume fish at home; some consume fish at restaurants (39%), and 5% at family or friends' houses, reinforcing the idea that variables such as culture and reference groups are fundamental determinants of purchase and consumption behavior. It was identified a significant (p < 0.001) and very strong correlation between the attributes price and nutritional value (r = 0.92); price and availability at the usual places of purchase (r = 0.92); price and packaging (r = 0.92); price and brand name (r = 0.91); and price and of the Federal Inspection stamp (r = 0.91) and a low positive correlation (p < 0.001) between the price variable and the initiative for fish traceability (r = 0.16). This study demonstrated that the price of fish is associated with the quality of the product and the attributes related to it such as packaging, nutritional value, and availability of the product in the market.
