Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore China’s online wine market segmentation on the basis of the wine-related lifestyle (WRL). Moreover, this study can provide further understanding and ...reference about China’s wine market segmentation research, which is limited at present. This work can be helpful for those who want to do further research in the Chinese wine market. It is good for wine importers wanting to import wine to China to understand the Chinese wine consumers.
Design/methodology/approach
Survey data were obtained from a sample of 3,369 participants through cooperation between the College of Enology and the Yesmywine.com website. Questionnaire items included gender, age, area distribution, unit price, bottles consumed, drinking frequency, drinking time, wine-related knowledge, etc. Combined with the influence factors of the WRL, a structural equation model was developed. The data analysis, particularly employing principal component analysis, enabled the identification of five market segments.
Findings
Five distinct segments were identified within the wine market and designated as follows: wine official consumption type enthusiastic fancier; enjoyment consumption; fashionable consumption; and new, young wine drinkers.
Research limitations/implications
The research data were derived from Yesmywine, one of the largest online wine sale platforms. However, the impact of yesmywine is much smaller compared with Tmall and Taobao and Jingdong. In this paper, we can see that WRL is increasingly becoming a part of Chinese people’s daily lives, especially for the enthusiastic and fancier wine consumers, which is the official type of wine consumer. Next, an analysis of time series under the data of the near future years should be conducted to find the online wine segmentation market variation trend. Moreover, it is important to conduct cross-culture comparison between the Chinese and Australians. Brand positioning can be improved by better understanding China’s online wine market segmentation.
Practical implications
WRL segmentation is valuable for the wine importers and producers in west France, Italian, Germany and so on, as they want to develop China’s wine market and understand the mindset of Chinese wine consumers. The wine importers in China should focus more on consumers that enjoy wine along with newer and younger wine drinkers.
Originality/value
This paper analyzes a large sample (3,369) and therefore is useful for understanding online wine market segmentation and wine consumption behavior in China owing to China’s limited wine market segmentation literature. This paper is the first to use WRL tool to segment China’s online wine market. Moreover, the research data have reference value for those who want to learn more about China’s online wine market, as yesmywine is one of the largest online wine-sale platforms. It also gives some managerial implications for wineries and wine marketers that will be helpful to wine companies in understanding the emerging Chinese wine market and in enacting wine marketing strategies more effectively.
Due to the characteristics of peroxide explosives, which are difficult to detect via conventional detection methods and have high explosive power, a fluorescent photoelectric detection system based ...on fluorescence detection technology was designed in this study to achieve the high-sensitivity detection of trace peroxide explosives in practical applications. Through actual measurement experiments and numerical simulation methods, the derivative dynamic time warping (DDTW) algorithm and the Spearman correlation coefficient were used to calculate the DDTW–Spearman distance to achieve time series correlation measurements. The detection sensitivity of triacetone triperoxide (TATP) and H2O2 was studied, and the detection of organic substances of acetone, acetylene, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and petroleum ether was carried out. The stability and specific detection ability of the fluorescent photoelectric detection system were determined. The research results showed that the fluorescence photoelectric detection system can effectively identify the detection data of TATP, H2O2, acetone, acetonitrile, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and petroleum ether. The detection limit of 0.01 mg/mL of TATP and 0.0046 mg/mL of H2O2 was less than 10 ppb. The time series similarity measurement method improves the analytical capabilities of fluorescence photoelectric detection technology.
Dendritic fibrous nano-silica (DFNS), also well-known as KCC-1, possesses three-dimensional center-radial nanochannels and hierarchical nanopores. Compared with conventional mesoporous materials like ...SBA-15, these special structural characteristics endow DFNS with more accessible internal space, higher specific surface area, larger pore volume,
etc.
Even though great progress has been achieved, the as-prepared KCC-1 nanospheres exhibit extremely non-uniform diameters and their sizes differ enormously in almost all available traditional synthesis approaches. Herein, a facile and low-cost one-pot rotating hydrothermal approach is adopted to improve the size uniformity of dendritic fibrous nano-silica. Stirring rates of 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 (the maximum) revolutions per minute (rpm) can influence KCC-1 uniformity to certain extents. Among them, 60 rpm can be considered to be an ideal stirring rate for relatively uniform KCC-1 because of the best sufficient contact of reaction phases. A plausible synthesis mechanism can be explained in terms of continuously variable stress conditions of the reaction mother liquor (
i.e.
, the bicontinuous microemulsion) during the fabrication process. To be specific, except for gravity (
G
), this technique brings about the centrifugal force (
F
) stemming from the stirring rate, and the buoyancy (
f
) originated from vigorous reversal of organic phase in the reaction solution. These forces synergistically mix organic phase and water phase, which generates new bicontinuous microemulsion droplets (BMDs) to supplement the consumed ones. All in all, this approach as well as the synthesis equipment is simple, inexpensive, and reproducible for large-scale KCC-1 preparation with improved size uniformity.
This article provides a facile, low-cost, and reproducible one-pot rotating hydrothermal approach to synthesize dendritic fibrous nano-silica with outstanding uniformity.
The NLRP3 (nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat pyrin domain containing 3) inflammasome-mediated inflammatory responses are critically involved in the progression of atherosclerosis ...(AS), which is the essential cause for cardiovascular diseases. Melatonin has anti-inflammatory properties. However, little is known about the potential effects of melatonin in the pathological process of AS. Herein, we demonstrate that melatonin suppressed prolonged NLRP3 inflammasome activation in atherosclerotic lesions by reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging via mitophagy in macrophages. The atherosclerotic mouse model was induced with a high-fat diet using ApoE−/− mice. Melatonin treatment markedly attenuated AS plaque size and vulnerability. Furthermore, melatonin decreased NLRP3 inflammasome activation and the consequent IL-1β secretion within atherosclerotic lesions. Despite the unchanged protein expression, the silent information regulator 3 (Sirt3) activity was elevated in the atherosclerotic lesions in melatonin-treated mice. In ox-LDL-treated macrophages, melatonin attenuated the NLRP3 inflammasome activation and the inflammatory factors secretion, while this protective effect was abolished by either Sirt3 silence or autophagy inhibitor 3-MA. Mitochondrial ROS (mitoROS), which was a recognized inducer for NLRP3 inflammasome, was attenuated by melatonin through the induction of mitophagy. Both Sirt3-siRNA and autophagy inhibitor 3-MA partially abolished the beneficial effects of melatonin on mitoROS clearance and NLRP3 inflammasome activation, indicating the crucial role of Sirt3-mediated mitophagy. Furthermore, we demonstrated that melatonin protected against AS via the Sirt3/FOXO3a/Parkin signaling pathway. In conclusion, the current study demonstrated that melatonin prevented atherosclerotic progression, at least in part, via inducing mitophagy and attenuating NLRP3 inflammasome activation, which was mediated by the Sirt3/FOXO3a/Parkin signaling pathway. Collectively, our study provides insight into melatonin as a new target for therapeutic intervention for AS.
Impaired cardiac microvascular function contributes to cardiovascular complications in diabetes. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) exhibits potential cardioprotective properties in addition to its ...glucose-lowering effect. This study was designed to evaluate the impact of GLP-1 on cardiac microvascular injury in diabetes and the underlying mechanism involved. Experimental diabetes was induced using streptozotocin in rats. Cohorts of diabetic rats received a 12-week treatment of vildagliptin (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor) or exenatide (GLP-1 analog). Experimental diabetes attenuated cardiac function, glucose uptake, and microvascular barrier function, which were significantly improved by vildagliptin or exenatide treatment. Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) were isolated and cultured in normal or high glucose medium with or without GLP-1. GLP-1 decreased high-glucose-induced reactive oxygen species production and apoptotic index, as well as the levels of NADPH oxidase such as p47(phox) and gp91(phox). Furthermore, cAMP/PKA (cAMP-dependent protein kinase activity) was increased and Rho-expression was decreased in high-glucose-induced CMECs after GLP-1 treatment. In conclusion, GLP-1 could protect the cardiac microvessels against oxidative stress, apoptosis, and the resultant microvascular barrier dysfunction in diabetes, which may contribute to the improvement of cardiac function and cardiac glucose metabolism in diabetes. The protective effects of GLP-1 are dependent on downstream inhibition of Rho through a cAMP/PKA-mediated pathway.
Extreme cold exposure has been widely considered as a cardiac stress and may result in cardiac function decompensation. This study was to examine the risk factors that contribute to changes in ...cardiovascular indicators of cardiac function following extreme cold exposure and to provide valuable insights into the preservation of cardiac function and the cardiac adaptation that occur in real‐world cold environment. Seventy subjects were exposed to cold outside (Mohe, mean temperature −17 to −34°C) for one day, and were monitored by a 24‐h ambulatory blood pressure device and underwent echocardiography examination before and after extreme cold exposure. After exposure to extreme cold, 41 subjects exhibited an increase in ejection fraction (EF), while 29 subjects experienced a decrease. Subjects with elevated EF had lower baseline coefficients of variation (CV) in blood pressure compared to those in the EF decrease group. Additionally, the average real variability (ARV) of blood pressure was also significantly lower in the EF increase group. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that both baseline CV and ARV of blood pressure were independent risk factors for EF decrease, and both indicators proved effective for prognostic evaluation. Correlation analysis revealed a correlation between baseline blood pressure CV and ARV, as well as EF variation after exposure to extreme cold environment. Our research clearly indicated that baseline cardiovascular indicators were closely associated with the changes in EF after extreme cold exposure. Furthermore, baseline blood pressure variability could effectively predict alterations in left cardiac functions when individuals were exposed to extreme cold environment.
Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is a novel swine enteropathogenic coronavirus with worldwide distribution. PDCoV belongs to the
(DCoV) genus, which mainly includes avian coronaviruses (CoVs). PDCoV ...has the potential to infect human and chicken cells in vitro, and also has limited infectivity in calves. However, the origin of PDCoV in pigs, the host range, and cross-species infection of PDCoV still remain unclear. To determine whether PDCoV really has the ability to infect chickens in vivo, the three lines of chicken embryos and specific pathogen free (SPF) chickens were inoculated with PDCoV HNZK-02 strain to investigate PDCoV infection in the current study. Our results indicated that PDCoV can infect chicken embryos and could be continuously passaged on them. Furthermore, we observed that PDCoV-inoculated chickens showed mild diarrhea symptoms and low fecal viral RNA shedding. PDCoV RNA could also be detected in multiple organs (lung, kidney, jejunum, cecum, and rectum) and intestinal contents of PDCoV-inoculated chickens until 17 day post-inoculation by real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR). A histology analysis indicated that PDCoV caused mild lesions in the lung, kidney, and intestinal tissues. These results prove the susceptibility of chickens to PDCoV infection, which might provide more insight about the cross-species transmission of PDCoV.
Abstract
It is pointed out that searching for sterile neutrinos in high energy regions at a future IceCube-like facility has advantages compared with reactor or short baseline accelerator neutrino ...experiments, in which the size of the detector and energy resolution make it difficult to gain good sensitivity for a large mass-squared difference. In this study we show that it is possible to improve constraints on sterile neutrino mixing θ14 for 1 eV$^2 \lesssim \Delta m_{41}^2\lesssim$ 100 eV2 by looking for a dip in the shower events at an IceCube-like neutrino telescope whose volume is at least 10 times as large as that of IceCube and whose duration is 10 years. We also give an analytic expression for the oscillation probabilities in two cases where the condition of one mass scale dominance is satisfied.
Background. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a major threat for diabetic patients. Silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) has a regulatory effect on mitochondrial dynamics, which is associated with ...DCM pathological changes. Our study aims to investigate whether resveratrol, a SRIT1 activator, could exert a protective effect against DCM. Methods and Results. Cardiac-specific SIRT1 knockout (SIRT1KO) mice were generated using Cre-loxP system. SIRT1KO mice displayed symptoms of DCM, including cardiac hypertrophy and dysfunction, insulin resistance, and abnormal glucose metabolism. DCM and SIRT1KO hearts showed impaired mitochondrial biogenesis and function, while SIRT1 activation by resveratrol reversed this in DCM mice. High glucose caused increased apoptosis, impaired mitochondrial biogenesis, and function in cardiomyocytes, which was alleviated by resveratrol. SIRT1 deletion by both SIRT1KO and shRNA abolished the beneficial effects of resveratrol. Furthermore, the function of SIRT1 is mediated via the deacetylation effect on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α), thus inducing increased expression of nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF-1), NRF-2, estrogen-related receptor-α (ERR-α), and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM). Conclusions. Cardiac deletion of SIRT1 caused phenotypes resembling DCM. Activation of SIRT1 by resveratrol ameliorated cardiac injuries in DCM through PGC-1α-mediated mitochondrial regulation. Collectively, SIRT1 may serve as a potential therapeutic target for DCM.
