Haze removal is useful in computational photography and computer vision applications. Although many haze removal algorithms have been proposed, their computational efficiency requires improvement. A ...real-time haze removal method is presented in this paper. The method is based on the concept of a dark channel prior. To enhance the haze removal performance, an approximate method to estimate the atmospheric light and transmission is employed. For embedded system applications, a hardware architecture to perform real-time haze removal is proposed. The hardware can achieve 116 MHz on Stratix FPGA. The simulation results indicate that the hardware is highly efficient and performs well. It obtains good image recovery results and satisfies the real-time requirement even for large images.
Keratin 1 (KRT1) is overexpressed in squamous carcinomas and associated with aggressive pathologies in breast cancer. Herein we report the design and preparation of the first Trp-based red ...fluorogenic amino acid, which is synthetically accessible in a few steps and displays excellent photophysical properties, and its application in a minimally-disruptive labelling strategy to prepare a new fluorogenic cyclopeptide for imaging of KRT1+ cells in whole intact tumour tissues.
Trp(redBODIPY) is the first red-emitting Trp-based amino acid for the preparation of fluorogenic peptides with retention of target binding affinity.
Although cilia loss and cell transformation are frequently observed in the early stage of tumorigenesis, the roles of cilia in cell transformation are unknown. In this study, disrupted ciliogenesis ...was observed in cancer cells and pancreatic cancer tissues, which facilitated oncogene-induced transformation of normal pancreatic cells (HPDE6C7) and NIH3T3 cells through activating the mevalonate (MVA) pathway. Disruption of ciliogenesis up-regulated MVA enzymes through β catenin-T cell factor (TCF) signaling, which synchronized with sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 2 (SREBP2), and the regulation of MVA by β-catenin-TCF signaling was recapitulated in a mouse model of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and human PDAC samples. Moreover, disruption of ciliogenesis by depleting
dramatically promoted tumorigenesis in the PDAC mouse model, driven by
, which was inhibited by statin, an inhibitor of the MVA pathway. Collectively, this study emphasizes the crucial roles of cilia in governing the early steps of the transformation by activating the MVA pathway, suggesting that statin has therapeutic potential for pancreatic cancer treatment.
Novel bolapolyphiles, built of a p-terphenyl or bistolane core with polar glycerol end-groups and two laterally attached n-alkyl or semiperfluoroalkyl chains, form the first “single plumber’s ...nightmare network”, the simplest soft-matter cubic phase (Pm3̅m). Its cage-like grid comprises bundles of aromatic rods lying along the cubic unit cell edges, connected by six-way hydrogen-bonded junctions. Side-chains fill the remaining volume of this unique noninterpenetrating liquid-crystalline organic framework.
A population of Natural Killer (NK) cells expressing the activating receptor NKG2C and the maturation marker CD57 expands in response to human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection. CD3-CD56dimCD57+NKG2C+ ...NK cells are similar to CD8+ memory T cells with rapid and robust effector function upon re-stimulation, persistence, and epigenetic remodeling of the IFNG locus. Chronic antigen stimulation drives CD8+ memory T cell proliferation while also inducing genome-wide epigenetic reprograming and dysfunction. We hypothesized that chronic stimulation could similarly induce epigenetic reprograming and dysfunction in NK cells. Here we show that chronic stimulation of adaptive NK cells through NKG2C using plate-bound agonistic antibodies in combination with IL-15 drove robust proliferation and activation of CD3-CD56dimCD57+NKG2C+ NK cells while simultaneously inducing high expression of the checkpoint inhibitory receptors LAG-3 and PD-1. Marked induction of checkpoint inhibitory receptors was also observed on the surface of adaptive NK cells co-cultured with HCMV-infected endothelial cells. Chronically stimulated adaptive NK cells were dysfunctional when challenged with tumor targets. These cells exhibited a pattern of epigenetic reprograming, with genome-wide alterations in DNA methylation. Our study has important implications for cancer immunotherapy and suggest that exhausted NK cells could be targeted with inhibitory checkpoint receptor blockade.
Filamentous tau aggregates are hallmark lesions in numerous neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Cell culture and animal studies showed that tau fibrils can undergo ...cell-to-cell transmission and seed aggregation of soluble tau, but this phenomenon was only robustly demonstrated in models overexpressing tau. In this study, we found that intracerebral inoculation of tau fibrils purified from AD brains (AD-tau), but not synthetic tau fibrils, resulted in the formation of abundant tau inclusions in anatomically connected brain regions in nontransgenic mice. Recombinant human tau seeded by AD-tau revealed unique conformational features that are distinct from synthetic tau fibrils, which could underlie the differential potency in seeding physiological levels of tau to aggregate. Therefore, our study establishes a mouse model of sporadic tauopathies and points to important differences between tau fibrils that are generated artificially and authentic ones that develop in AD brains.
People extend the MSSM with the local gauge group U(1)X to obtain the U(1)XSSM. In the framework of the U(1)XSSM, we study the flavor transition process b→sγ with the mass insertion approximation ...(MIA). By the MIA method and some reasonable parameter assumptions, we can intuitively find the parameters that have obvious effect on the analytic results of the flavor transition process b→sγ. By means of the influences of different sensitive parameters, we can obtain reasonable results to better fit the experimental data.
We study the detection of multipartite entanglement based on the generalized local uncertainty relations. A sufficient criterion for the entanglement of four-partite quantum systems is presented in ...terms of the local uncertainty relations. Detailed examples are given to illustrate the advantages of our criterion. The approach is generalized to general multipartite entanglement cases.
In this paper, we propose an all-solid-state, electrically tunable, and reflective terahertz phased array (TPA) based on a novel graphene metasurface. By designing and optimizing the key structural ...parameters of graphene antenna, the metasurface can achieve close to the continuous phase curves corresponding to different deflection angles and the accurate modulation of phase over 350° by the metasurface in THz spectrum. Based on the above two elements, the designed TPA can achieve a specific deflection angle or continuous scanning in the ultra-wide range of −79.11°∼79.11° almost without side lobe interference. A key feature of our design can maintain the beam steering function in the range of incident angle less than 20°. This method holds a promising potential for versatile utilization in integrated devices such as adjustable wavefront control.
