In-situ TiC/Ti titanium matrix composites were successfully fabricated through a novel approach, utilizing the reaction of graphene and Ti mixture powders in spark plasma sintering. Microstructure, ...hardness and compressive properties of such composites were investigated. The layered graphene nanosheets as the carbon source were dispersed in the powders, and subsequently formed uniform TiC particles in Ti matrix during the rapid sintering. The resulting TiC particles exhibited the micro- and nano-sized equiaxial structures. Such composites possessed the significantly enhanced hardness and room-temperature compressive strength comparing with the as-cast and as-sintered pure Ti. The ultimate and yield compressive strengths of as-prepared 7.0vol% TiC incorporated composite respectively reached up to 2.64GPa and 1.93GPa, beyond some advanced Ti materials reported to date. In-situ micro- and nano-sized TiC particles were believed to be beneficial to harden and strengthen Ti matrix. The relevant strengthening mechanisms of such composites were discussed.
Aim: Dyslipidemia is the most common lipid metabolism disorder in humans, and its etiology remains elusive. Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is a type of dyslipidemia that contributes to atherosclerosis ...and coronary heart disease. Previous studies have demonstrated that mutations in lipoprotein lipase (LPL), apolipoprotein CII (APOC2), apolipoprotein AV (APOA5), glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchored high-density lipoprotein-binding protein 1 (GPIHBP1), lipase maturation factor 1(LMF1), and glycerol-3 phosphate dehydrogenase 1 (GPD1) are responsible for HTG by using genomic microarrays and next-generation sequencing. The aim of this study was to identify genetic lesions in patients with HTG.Method: Our study included a family of seven members from Jiangsu province across three generations. The proband was diagnosed with severe HTG, with a plasma triglyceride level of 38.70 mmol/L. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Sanger sequencing were performed to explore the possible causative gene mutations for this patient. Furthermore, we measured the post-heparin LPL and hepatic lipase (HL) activities using an antiserum inhibition method.Results: A compound heterozygous mutation in the LMF1 gene (c.257C＞T/p.P86L and c.1184C＞T/p.T395I) was identified and co-segregated with the affected patient in this family. Both mutations were predicted to be deleterious by three bioinformatics programs (Polymorphism Phenotyping-2, Sorting Intolerant From Tolerant, and MutationTaster). The levels of the plasma post-heparin LPL and HL activities in the proband (57 and 177 mU/mL) were reduced to 24% and 75%, respectively, compared with those assayed in the control subject with normal plasma triglycerides.Conclusion: A compound heterozygous mutation of LMF1 was identified in the presenting patient with severe HTG. These findings expand on the spectrum of LMF1 mutations and contribute to the genetic diagnosis and counseling of families with HTG.
Biodegradable plastics are urgently needed in the biomedical field to avoid the secondary surgery for implants after completing the repair of nonload bearing bone defects. Herein, novel chitin based ...plastics were successfully fabricated by changing the shape and aggregation state structure of chitin hydrogels through drying under a negative pressure, which led to a plastic deformation. The chitin hydrogels were prepared by using an environmentally friendly aqueous NaOH/urea solvent, and then radially oriented under the negative pressure to form chitin bioplastics (CP) on the basis of the removability of the chitin molecular bundles in the hydrogels. Moreover, hydroxyapatite (HAP) was in situ synthesized to obtain the chitin/HAP composite plastics (CHP). Their structure and properties were characterized by SEM, FTIR, 13C NMR, X-ray diffraction and mechanical testing. The results indicated that the bioplastic preparation was a “green” physical process, and the incorporation of HAP reinforced significantly the tensile strength of CHP. The viability, biocompatibility, hemocompatibility and in vivo histocompatibility of the bioplastics were evaluated systematically. The introduction of HAP could improve the cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of the osteoblast cells. Moreover, CHP exhibited good histocompatibility, hemocompatibility and in vivo biodegradability, showing potential application in the bone tissue engineering field.
Oxime, whose dynamic nature was reported to be switchable between ON/OFF by tuning the acidity, is employed in a novel type of dynamic covalent approach that is amenable to use in water for ...self‐assembly of purely organic molecules with complex topology. In strongly acidic conditions, the dynamic nature of oxime is turned ON, allowing occurrence of error‐checking and therefore a catenane and a macrocycle self‐assembled in high yields. In neutral conditions, oxime ceases to be dynamic, which helps to trap the self‐assembled products even when the driving forces of their formation are removed. We envision that this switchable behaviour might help, at least partially, to resolve a commonly encountered drawback of dynamic covalent chemistry, namely that the intrinsic stability of the self‐assembled products containing dynamic bonds, such as imine or hydrazone, are often jeopardized by their reversible nature.
An off and on relationship: In strongly acidic aqueous solutions, the oxime bond is dynamic and allows both a catenane and a macrocycle to self‐assemble in relatively high yields. The dynamic nature of oxime linkage could be turned OFF almost fully in neutral conditions, making the self‐assembled catenane kinetically inert in both solid state and solution at elevated temperatures or during chromatography and counteranion exchange.
Competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) is a transcript that can be mutually regulated at the post-transcriptional level by competing shared miRNAs. The ceRNA network connects the function of ...protein-encoded mRNA with the function of non-coding RNA, such as microRNA (miRNA), long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and circular RNA (circRNA). However, compared with the ceRNA, the identification and combined analysis of lncRNAs, mRNAs, miRNAs, and circRNAs in the cashmere fineness have not been completed. Using RNA-seq technology, we first identified the miRNAs presented in Liaoning Cashmere Goat (LCG) skin, and then analyzed the mRNAs, lncRNAs, circRNAs expressed in LCG and Inner Mongolia cashmere goat (MCG) skin. As a result, 464 known and 45 new miRNAs were identified in LCG skin. In LCG and MCG skin, 1222 differentially expressed mRNAs were identified, 170 differentially expressed lncRNAs and 32 differentially expressed circRNAs were obtained. Then, qRT-PCR was used to confirm further the representative lncRNAs, mRNAs, circRNAs and miRNAs. In addition, miRanda predicted the relationships of ceRNA regulatory network among lncRNAs, circRNAs, miRNAs and mRNAs, the potential regulatory effects were investigated by Go and KEGG analysis. Through the screening and analysis of the results, the ceRNA network regulating cashmere fineness was constructed. LncRNA MSTRG14109.1 and circRNA452 were competed with miRNA-2330 to regulated the expression of TCHH, KRT35 and JUNB, which may provide a potential basis for further research on the process of regulating the cashmere fineness.

˙˙) are created and metallic silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) are formed by the reaction of partial Ag⁺ in Ag₃PO₄ semiconductor with the thermally excited electrons from Ag₃PO₄ and then deposited on the surface of Ag₃PO₄ microspheres during the calcination process. Among the calcined Ag₃PO₄ samples, the Ag₃PO₄-200 sample exhibits the best photocatalytic activity and greatly enhanced photocatalytic stability for photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) solution under visible light irradiation. Oxygen vacancies play a significantly positive role in the enhancement of photocatalytic activity, while metallic Ag has a very important effect on improving the photocatalytic stability. Overall, the present work provides some powerful evidences and a deep understanding on the origin of activity and stability enhancement for the Ag₃PO₄ photocatalyst after calcination.
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most common internal modification in mRNAs of all higher eukaryotes. Here we perform two high-throughput sequencing methods, m6A-modified RNA immunoprecipitation ...sequence (MeRIP-seq) and RNA sequence (RNA-seq) to identify key genes with m6A modification in cashmere fiber growth. A total of 9,085 m6A sites were differentially RNA m6A methylated as reported from by MeRIP-seq, including 7,170 upregulated and 1,915 downregulated. In addition, by comparing m6A-modified genes between the fine-type Liaoning cashmere goat (FT-LCG) and coarse-type Liaoning Cashmere Goat (CT-LCG) skin samples, we obtain 1,170 differentially expressed genes. In order to identify the differently methylated genes related to cashmere fiber growth, 19 genes were selected to validate by performing qRT-PCR in FT-LCG and CT-LCG. In addition, GO enrichment analysis shows that differently methylated genes are mainly involved in keratin filament and intermediate filament. These findings provide a theoretical basis for future research on the function of m6A modification during the growth of cashmere fiber.
One of the critical elements in evaluating the quality of cashmere is its fineness, but we still know little about how it is regulated at the metabolic level. In this paper, we use UHPLC–MS/MS ...detection and analysis technology to compare the difference in metabolites between coarse cashmere (CT_LCG) and fine cashmere (FT_LCG) skin of Liaoning cashmere goats. According to the data, under positive mode four metabolites were significantly up-regulated and seven were significantly down-regulated. In negative mode, seven metabolites were significantly up-regulated and fourteen metabolites were significantly down-regulated. The two groups’ most significant metabolites, Gly–Phe and taurochenodeoxycholate, may be crucial in controlling cashmere’s growth, development, and fineness. In addition, we enriched six KEGG pathways, of which cholesterol metabolism, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and bile secretion were enriched in positive and negative modes. These findings offer a new research idea for further study into the critical elements influencing cashmere’s fineness.
Approximately 50% of irrigation water is saved during drip-irrigation of rice, which has tremendous potential for water-saving agriculture, particularly in areas where water resources are scarce. ...However, the grain yield and quality of drip-irrigated rice are adversely affected.
In this study, we investigated the effects of different irrigation strategies on the grain yield and quality of drip-irrigated rice using field experiments. Four irrigation treatments were studied: whole growing season flooding (FI), whole growing season normal drip irrigation (DI, soil relative moisture (RSM) was maintained in the range of 90-100%), pre-anthesis drip irrigation and post-anthesis water stress (SAF, the RSM was maintained in the range of 80-90% after anthesis), pre-anthesis drip irrigation, and post-anthesis flooding (FAF).
The results showed that grain yield, harvest index, seed setting rate and 1000 grain weight in DI and SAF were significantly lower than in FI and FAF. These parameters were not significantly different between FI and FAF but were significantly greater in DI than in SAF. Compared with FI and FAF, the source capacity, source activity time, and sink activity of DI and SAF decreased, and the sink-source difference increased. The sink-source difference had a significant negative correlation with rice yield and 1000 grain weight. The activities of ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase, starch branching enzyme, and amylopectin content in grains in the middle panicles of FAF were significantly higher than those of DI and SAF. SAF resulted in increased amylose/amylopectin ratio and total protein content in grains but decreased proportion of glutenin in total protein. Irrigation after anthesis of drip-irrigated rice narrowed the difference between sink sources in rice plants, increased the grain yield and harvest index by 29.2% and 11%, respectively, compared to DI, increased water productivity by 19% compared to FI, and improved the grain quality of drip-irrigated rice.
This study highlights that post-anthesis sufficient irrigation of drip-irrigated rice plays a positive role in maintaining the source-sink balance. This study serves as a foundation for the development of more effective rice farming methods that conserve water, while increasing the grain yield and quality of drip-irrigated rice.
The cultivation of drip-irrigated rice has resulted in lower yields. However, the decrease in rice yield under drip irrigation and its relationship with the existing water and N regime have not been ...fully explained. Research and development of optimized water and N-management techniques are crucial for increasing rice yield under drip irrigation. In this study, two irrigation treatments were set: conventional drip irrigation (DIO) and drip irrigation with water stress (DIS). Each irrigation treatment contained four N rates: urea N 240 kg ha−1 (LN), urea N 300 kg ha−1 (MN), urea N 360 kg ha−1 (HN), and ammonium sulfate N 300 kg ha−1 (AN). The soil’s ammonium and nitrate contents were measured on the 2nd and 28th days after N application at panicle initiation stage. At anthesis, the aboveground and root biomass of rice were measured. In heading and maturity stage the N content of aboveground was measured and the yield, yield components, and NPFP were assessed at maturity stage. The results showed the following: (1) On the second day after N application, the contents of soil NO3−-N and NH4+-N in the 0–10 cm soil layer were highest for both the DIO and DIS. On the 28th day after N application, the soil NO3−-N content was highest at the 20–40 cm depth, while the soil NH4+-N content was still highest at the 0–10 cm depth. (2) The aboveground and root biomass in DIO treatment were significantly higher than in DIS. Furthermore, the root biomass at the 0–10 cm depth was significantly greater than at the 10–50 cm depth for both the DIO and DIS treatments. In the DIO treatment, the root biomass at the 10–50 cm depth was significantly higher with the HN and AN treatments compared to MN. However, in the DIS treatment, the root biomass at the 10–50 cm depth did not show significant differences between the MN, HN, and AN. (3) N accumulation in rice was significantly higher for the DIO treatment compared to the DIS treatment. Under the same irrigation treatment, the N accumulation in rice was highest in the AN and lowest in the LN. The PrNTA and PrNTC in DIS were significantly higher than in DIO, while the PoNAA and PoNAC were significantly lower in DIS. (4) The number of panicles, spikelets per panicle, seed-setting rate, 1000-grain weight, and grain yield were significantly lower in DIS. Under the DIS, these parameters were not significantly different among the MN, HN, and AN. In the DIO, the seed-setting rate, 1000-grain weight, and yield were not significantly different between the HN and AN, but were significantly higher than in the MN and LN. (5) NPFP was significantly higher in the DIO compared to the DIS. Among the different N rates, NPFP was highest with the AN treatment and lowest with the LN. In summary, under drip irrigation, there was a mismatch between soil mineral N and the distribution of rice roots, leading to reduced N accumulation and utilization in rice, ultimately impacting yield formation. Increasing N application and soil ammonium nutrition can improve rice yield under drip irrigation. However, optimizing N fertilizer management may not increase rice yield further when irrigation is further limited.
