It examines the effect of industrial robots on firms’ export value by using Chinese Customs data, Chinese Industrial Firm data and robot data from the International Robot Federation (IRF). The main findings are as follows: Firstly, the impact of artificial intelligence and industrial robots on Chinese firms’ export value is generally negative, which means the negative labour substitution effect dominates the positive productivity effect. Secondly, the impact of artificial intelligence varies significantly by industry, and the export value of firms from high-tech industries benefits from the use of industrial robots. Thirdly, the impact of artificial intelligence on firms’ export value also varies by time; before 2003, the use of industrial robots showed mainly an inhibiting effect on firms’ exports, which turned into a driving effect thereafter, and after 2006, industrial robots began to significantly promote firms’ export. Finally, the higher the quality of export products, the more likely the use of industrial robots will be to promote firms’ export value, and the higher the capital–labour ratio is, the more likely firms’ export value will be to benefit from the use of artificial intelligence and industrial robots. On the basis of these findings, this study proposes promoting the productivity effect to dominate the labour substitution effect through technological progress and the improvement of export product quality.
Driver decisions and behaviors regarding the surrounding traffic are critical to traffic safety. It is important for an intelligent vehicle to understand driver behavior and assist in driving tasks ...according to their status. In this paper, the consumer range camera Kinect is used to monitor drivers and identify driving tasks in a real vehicle. Specifically, seven common tasks performed by multiple drivers during driving are identified in this paper. The tasks include normal driving, left-, right-, and rear-mirror checking, mobile phone answering, texting using a mobile phone with one or both hands, and the setup of in-vehicle video devices. The first four tasks are considered safe driving tasks, while the other three tasks are regarded as dangerous and distracting tasks. The driver behavior signals collected from the Kinect consist of a color and depth image of the driver inside the vehicle cabin. In addition, 3-D head rotation angles and the upper body (hand and arm at both sides) joint positions are recorded. Then, the importance of these features for behavior recognition is evaluated using random forests and maximal information coefficient methods. Next, a feedforward neural network (FFNN) is used to identify the seven tasks. Finally, the model performance for task recognition is evaluated with different features (body only, head only, and combined). The final detection result for the seven driving tasks among five participants achieved an average of greater than 80% accuracy, and the FFNN tasks detector is proved to be an efficient model that can be implemented for real-time driver distraction and dangerous behavior recognition.
In this paper, with classic Legendre polynomials, a method of particular solutions (MPS, for short) is proposed to solve a kind of second-order differential equations with a variable coefficient on a ...unit interval. The particular solutions, satisfying the natural Dirichlet boundary conditions, are constructed with orthogonal Legendre polynomials for the variable coefficient case. Meanwhile, we investigate the a-priori error estimates of the MPS approximations. Two a-priori error estimations in H1- and L∞-norms are shown to depict the convergence order of numerical approximations, respectively. Some numerical examples and convergence rates are provided to validate the merits of our proposed meshless method.
An electrically controlled rotor (ECR), also known as a swashplateless rotor, is an active rotor system that reduces the vibration load of the rotor through active control while achieving primary ...control by using a trailing edge flap system instead of a swashplate. In this study, the control effect of a 2Ω higher-order harmonic input on the vibration load of an ECR is investigated. First, an analytical aeroelastic model of the ECR is established based on Hamilton’s principle and an unsteady aerodynamic model with a flapped airfoil. On this basis, the use of higher-order harmonic flap control to reduce the vibration load of the ECR is investigated. The effect of the 2Ω higher-order harmonic flap control on the 2Ω vibration load of the example ECR is analyzed by sweeping the amplitude and phase of the higher-order harmonic flap control. The effect of higher-order harmonic flap control on the primary control of the ECR is also analyzed. The results show that the 2Ω higher-order flap deflection has the most significant control effect on the 2Ω vertical vibration load of the hub, that there is coupling between the higher-order flap deflection and the primary control of the ECR, and that the higher-order flap deflection disrupts the original equilibrium of the ECR.
The extraction of sandy roads from remote sensing images is important for field ecological patrols and path planning. Extraction studies on sandy roads face limitations because of various factors ...(e.g., sandy roads may have poor continuity, may be obscured by external objects, and/or have multi-scale and banding characteristics), in addition to the absence of publicly available datasets. Accordingly, in this study, we propose using the remote sensing imagery of a sandy road (RSISR) dataset and design a sandy road extraction model (Parallel Attention Mechanism-Unet, or PAM-Unet) based on Gaofen-2 (GF-2) satellite images. Firstly, the model uses a residual stacking module, which can solve the problem of poor road feature consistency and improve the extraction of fine features. Secondly, we propose a parallel attention module (PAM), which can reduce the occlusion effect of foreign objects on roads during the extraction process and improve feature map reduction. Finally, with this model, the SASPP (Strip Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling) structure, which enhances the model’s ability to perceive contextual information and capture banding features, is introduced at the end of the encoder. For this study, we conducted experiments on road extraction using the RSISR dataset and the DeepGlobe dataset. The final results show the following: (a) On the RSISR dataset, PAM-Unet achieves an IoU value of 0.762, and its F1 and IoU values are improved by 2.7% and 4.1%, respectively, compared to U-Net. In addition, compared to the models Unet++ and DeepLabv3+, PAM-Unet improves IoU metrics by 3.6% and 5.3%, respectively. (b) On the DeepGlobe dataset, the IoU value of PAM-Unet is 0.658; compared with the original U-Net, the F1 and IoU values are improved by 2.5% and 3.1%, respectively. The experimental results show that PAM-Unet has a positive impact by way of improving the continuity of sandy road extraction and reducing the occlusion of irrelevant features, and it is an accurate, reliable, and effective road extraction method.
China has experienced frequent food safety incidents that have undermined consumer trust in the food supply chain. To overcome this problem, China requalified the legislative framework and adopted a ...comprehensive food certification system over the years. Here, we investigated the influences of food traceability and Chinese certifications (QS/SC—food quality safety market access/production system, hazard-free, green, and organic) on Chinese consumer trust of food safety for different types of products: fish, meat, milk, eggs, and rice. Data were collected through face-to-face surveys conducted in rural and urban Chinese areas. With a sample of 757 questionnaires, we ran a logit model. The results show consumers’ uncertainty and skepticism of certifications guaranteeing food safety attributes, especially for animal-based products. We found that price is used as a cue of safety by Chinese consumers. Individuals with higher education seem less influenced by certifications and other cues included in the analysis. The findings demonstrate that Chinese policy makers should implement new strategies to enhance consumer food safety trust, and design policies by considering different categories (e.g., vegetables, meat, fish, etc.) of food.
