AIM: To investigate the diagnostic value of glypican-3 (GPC3) and its relationship with hepatocellular carci- noma (HCC) recurrence after liver transplantation.
METHODS: HCC tissue samples (n = 31) ...obtained from patients who had undergone liver transplantation were analyzed. GPC3 mRNA and protein expression were analyzed by TaqMan real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry. Correlation between the GPC3 expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed. The potential prognostic value of GPC3 was investigated by comparing recurrence-free survival between HCC patients with and without GPC3 expression.
RESULTS: Using a cutoff value of 3.5× 10^-2, 20 of 31 cancerous tissues had expression values of 〉 3.5× 10^2, whereas 3 of 31 adjacent non-neoplastic paren-chyma and 0 of 20 control liver tissues had expression values of 〉 3.5 × 10^-2 (P 〈 0.001). GPC3 protein was immunoexpressed in 68% of cancerous tissues, but not in adjacent non-neoplastic parenchyma and control liver tissues. Vascular invasion was significantly related to GPC3 expression (P 〈 0.05). Recurrence-free sur- vival was significantly longer for patients without GPC3 mRNA overexpression (〉 3.5 × 10^2) and those without vascular invasion (P 〈 0.05 for both).
CONCLUSION: GPC3 expression may serve as a valuable diagnostic marker for HCC. GPC3 mRNA overexpression may be an adverse indicator for HCC patients after liver transplantation.
The hot metal full pretreatment and less-slag steelmaking process constituted a platform to produce clean steel with low cost and rapid pace and also realized a professional production line. The wP ...can be less than 0.030% at the end of De-P converter and 0.006% at the end of De-C converter. The wN in steel can be less than 15×10-6 at the stirring station. This production line can make clean steel steadily used for auto sheet or pipeline, for example X65 MS. The De-C slag was left in the converter for the next heat and recycled to De-P converter to reduce lime consumption, which has a great benefit for the cost saving.
This study investigated the effects of fermentation product containing phytase (FPP) that was fermented using waste vinegar residue (WVR) as substrate from Aspergillusficuum NTG-23 on productive ...performance, egg quality, and phosphorus apparent metabolism of laying hens. First, 375 22-wk-old Jinghong hens were allocated into 5 treatments (5 replicates of 15 hens each) in an 8-wk experiment for evaluating the parameters of productive performance, egg quality, serum, and tibia. Experimental diets contained 4% FPP and 96% corn-soybean diet. The levels of dicalciurn phosphate (DCP) were 1.34, 1.01, 0.67, 0.34 and 0%. Next, thirty 31-wk-old Jinghong hens were fed 5 types of diets for evaluating phosphorous apparent metabolism rate. Egg productive rate, egg weight, feed conversion ratio, Haugh unit, egg albumen height, serum calcium, tibia ash, tibia ash calcium and tibia breaking strength were not different significantly among 5 treatments. The significant difference of average daily feed intake was not appeared when the DCP content of corn-soybean-FPP diet was reduced to 0.67%; the eggshell hardness, eggshell thickness and serum phosphorus were not reduced significantly until the DCP content of corn-soybean-FPP diet was reduced to 0.34%. The yolk color was improved when the laying hens fed deficient DCP corn-soybean-FPP diet. A 22.14% reduction in excreta phosphorus was observed when the laying hens fed low phosphorus (0.67% DCP) corn-soybean-FPP diet. A 30% elevation of phosphorus apparent metabolism rate was obtained when the DCP content of corn-soybean-FPP diet was decreased from 1.34 to 1.01%. The reducing cost of layer diet was totalized about 120 CNY 1000 kg1 diet when the content of DCP was 0.67% in corn-soybean-FPP diet. These results indicated that FPP could be applied in laying hen as a potential, cost-effective and rational application of WVR.
To the Editor: Ma2 antibody-mediated encephalitis is a rare type of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS) present with various clinical symptoms. Lung or testicular germ-cell malignancies are ...the most commonly associated tunlors,lH Here, we reported a patient with a Ma2 antibody-mediated encephalitis related to ileal lymphoma.
Cell culture plays an important role in virology. It provides a platform for the detection and isolation of viruses as well as for the biochemistry and molecular biology based studies of viruses. In ...the present work, a new system that could permits multiple (different) cell lines to be simultaneously cultured in one dish was developed In the system, each cell line was cultured in an isolated zone in the same dish or well and the system is therefore called an isolated co-culture system. The usefulness of this novel approach for virus isolation was demonstrated using a model system based on adenovirus
Thiazoles including five 2-arylbenzothiazoles and two 2-arylnaphthothiazoles were synthesized using a simple synthetic strategy in this work.2-Arylbenzothiazoles and 2-arylnaphthothiazoles can be ...prepared by the reaction of methylaromatics with aniline or naphthylamine in the presence of elemental sulfur, respectively. All the seven thiazoles were characterized by the melting point measurement,FTIR,~1H NMR,~(13)C NMR and GC-MS analysis.
Cardiac arrest during upper abdominal surgery such as liver transplantation is a rare but very severe complication. Traditional external cardiac compression has been the mainstay of basic life ...support in general circumstances. Subdiaphragmatic cardiac compression (SDCC), with no incision in the diaphragm, may be a more effective measure. This maneuver can provide more effective and timely cardiac compression via the already open abdomen in surgery and not add extra trauma. This method can provide a quicker and more effective means of circulation support for intraoperative cardiac arrest patients without adding new injuries. Five cases are reported and all the patients had return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). This is the first report of the SDCC method.
AIM: To investigate clinical outcomes of chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and liver cirrhosis(LC) patients under whole-course management with lamivudine(LAM). METHODS: This was a retrospective-prospective ...cohort study based on two nonrandom cohorts of Chinese patients(LAM group and history control group). Two hundred thirty-eight patients with LAM treatment for at least 12 mo under whole-course management were included in the LAM group. The management measures included regular follow-up and timely adjustment of the therapeutic regimen according to drug-resistance and relapse. Two hundred thirtyeight patients with CHB or LC without any antiviral treatment and with follow-up over 12 mo were included in the history control group. The LAM and control group patients were 1:1 matched by propensity score method to ensure both patients were similar in general datum, sex, age,E antigen, and diagnosis. The incidence rates of endpoint events LC,hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),and death were compared between the LAM and control groups.RESULTS: Hepatitis B virus-DNA < 1000 copies per m L rate and rate of alanine transaminase < 1.3 of theupper normal limit in LAM and control groups were 89.1% vs 18.5%(P < 0.05) and 89.8% vs 31.1%(P < 0.05),respectively. Viral breakthrough occurred in 77 patients(32.4%); the one-,three-,and fiveyear cumulative rates were 6.8%,33.1%,and 41.3%,respectively. In total,44.5%(106/238) of patients had once stopped LAM,and 63(59.4%) of them developed virologic relapse; the relapse rate of patients with and without reaching Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver endpoint criteria were 52.4% and 69.8%,respectively. Six CHB patients in the LAM group developed LC compared to 47 patients in the control group; the three-,and five-year cumulative rates of CHB at baseline of LAM were lower than those of the control group: 0.7% vs 12.0% and 1.8% vs 23.8%(P < 0.01),respectively. The incidence of HCC in CHB at baseline of LAM was lower than that of the control group; the three-,and five-year cumulative rates were 0% vs 3.2% and 1.1% vs 3.2%(P = 0.05),respectively. The incidence of HCC in LC at baseline of LAM was lower than that of the control group: 9.8%(5/51) vs 25.0%(12/48),and the three-,and five-year cumulative rates were 4.5% vs 20.7% and 8.1% vs 37.5%(P < 0.01),respectively. The mortality rate in the LAM group was lower than the control group. CONCLUSION: Standardized long-term LAM treatment in combination with comprehensive management can reduce the incidence rates of LC and HCC as well as hepatitis B virus-related deaths.
