Narodna ili pučka medicina tradicionalna je medicinska praksa u općoj populaciji, posebno ruralnoj. U narodnoj medicini koristili su se biljni lijekovi, kao i ljudske i životinjske supstancije te ...minerali. U liječenju očnih bolesti najčešće su se upotrebljavali lijekovi biljnog podrijetla – kamilica, vidac i rosopas, zatim lijekovi ljudskog i životinjskog podrijetla – majčino mlijeko, slina, med, životinjska žuč, a od minerala bakreni sulfat. Malo je literature koja govori o narodnom liječenju očnih bolesti. Cilj je ovog rada prikazati kako su se u narodnoj medicini liječile očne bolesti u Dalmaciji u 19. stoljeću. Nastojalo se objasniti i razloge takva empirijskog liječenja koje se prenosilo s koljena na koljeno. Krajem 19., a osobito početkom 20. stoljeća u Dalmaciji, ali i u cijeloj Hrvatskoj, najprije u velikim gradovima, razvila se moderna i znanstvena oftalmologija. Tako je postupno narodna medicina u liječenju očnih bolesti sve više padala u zaborav.
Folk medicine is a traditional medical practice in the general population, especially in rural areas.Traditional medicine methods used herbal remedies as well as human and animal substances and minerals.The most commonly used drugs in the treatment of eye diseases were drugs of plant origin like chamomile, eyebright and greater celandine, then drugs of human and animal origin like breast milk, saliva, honey, animal bile, and copper sulfate from mineral origin.There is little information in the literature discussing the folk treatment of ocular diseases.The aim of this paper is to show how ocular diseases were treated in folk medicine in Dalmatia during the 19th century.Efforts were also made to explain the reasons for such empirical treatment that was passed from generation to generation.At the end of the 19th, and especially at the beginning of the 20th century, modern and scientific ophthalmology developed in Dalmatia, but also throughout Croatia, first in large cities.So gradually, folk medicine in the treatment of eye diseases became more and more forgotten.
Ovaj je članak nastao povodom 85. rođendana dr. sc. Stanka Škunce (rođen 1937.) i donosi osnovne informacije glede njegova životnog i profesionalnog puta. Škuncina aktivnost u dosadašnjem radu bila ...je usmjerena, osim u redovničko-pastoralnoj dimenziji kao člana Reda male braće sv. Franje, ujedno na autorskom polju kao klasičnog filologa, povjesničara i publicista. Sastavni dio članka je kratak osvrt na Škuncine monografske publikacije, a potom se donosi popis njegovih izabranih objavljenih radova u razdoblju od 1971. do 2021. godine.
The article was written on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the birth of Dr. sc. Stanko Škunca (*1937), and provides general information about his life and professional career. As a member of the Order of Friars Minor of St. Francis, Škunca’s activities were mainly directed towards the monastic and pastoral dimension. However, as an author, Škunca also worked as a classical philologist, historian and publicist. Part of the article is devoted to the evaluation of Škunca’s monographic editions, and at the end the reader can find a selected bibliography of Škunca’s published works in the period from 1971 to 2021.
Mletački slikar Baldassare DʼAnna (Venecija, 1572. – 1646.) zastupljen je brojnim slikama u Istri i Dalmaciji. Relativno dobro istražena, njegova su djela protumačena kao eklektični radovi na kojima ...se prepoznaju izravni i dosljedni utjecaji suvremenika i prethodnika na liniji Tizian – Jacopo Palma, mlađi. Taj je očigledni utjecaj rezultirao konvencionalnim oltarnim palama i slikama sakralne tematike koje slijede renesansne kompozicijske obrasce simetričnosti i jasnoga rasporeda s čvrsto modeliranim likovima na kojima ponavlja tjelesne odlike i fizionomije. Tom korpusu slikarovih djela u Hrvatskoj (i Bosni i Hercegovini) autor dodaje dosad neuočena djela na otoku Braču, Šolti, Lošinju i Krku na kojima se ne prepoznaju novosti u likovnom smislu, ali se još više uočava uloga, značenje i popularnost koju je DʼAnnino zakašnjelo renesansno slikarstvo imalo kod dalmatinskih naručitelja. Ukazuje se i na – nedovoljno istraženu – ulogu njegovih suradnika u radionici jer su vidljive oscilacije u likovnoj vrijednosti njegovih slika.
The aim of this article is to deal with the disputable role Dalmatia played in the Croatian-Italian-Serbian borderlands, referring to the foremost Croatian and Yugoslav writer Miroslav Krleža. ...Although he is mostly associated with the Croatian North, i.e., historical Croatia-Slavonia, called sometimes the Panonian cultural complex, his engagement in the discourse of Dalmatia after World War Two cannot be underestimated. In the period 1950-1951 Krleža prepared two exhibitions of medieval art (one staged in Paris as L’art médiéval Yougoslave and the other in Zagreb as Zlato i srebro Zadra) and wrote two introductions to their catalogues. In them, he builds a concept of a separate “South Slavic civilisation” that “negates” the bipolarism of Roman-Byzantine competing cultural models (Slavia Romana vs. Slavia Orthodoxa, according to Picchio). Referring to the spatial approach to literature, I attempt to situate the post-war Yugoslav discourse, radically confrontational and militaristic, within historical antagonistic discourses (Croatian-Italian-Serbian).
The mining of metal ores was an important industry in the ancient world because it provided valuable resources: precious metals for coins and non-precious metals for tools and weapons. The Roman ...province of Dalmatia possessed significant deposits of gold, silver and iron. This article combines evidence from archaeology, coins, inscriptions and literature to assess the nature of the management, organisation and significance of this industry in Dalmatia during the Roman period with an eye especially to the involvement of the Roman state. It also considers the greater economic impact of the mines in terms of employment and provision of supplies.
The study will focus on the terminology associated with textile production and weaving in Dalmatia between the 2 century BC and the 9 century AD. Terminology originating from different cultures, such ...as that of the Roman, proto-Slavic or Slavic territories exercised influence on the Dalmatian culture of that period. Rare artifacts will be used to show a timeline for how these elements have been assimilated in Dalmatia. With the arrival of South Slavs who migrated from the Carpathian Mountains in the 5 and 6 century, the tradition of weaving in Dalmatia takes on the most important characteristics. However it will also face a different fate in the following centuries due to its geographic position where elements of Western and Eastern cultures met and coexisted. Some elements continued to exist while others transformed and adjusted according to new influences during the middle Ages. The study will describe the heritage of different cultures in the textile culture of Dalmatia, with focus on terminology used for the threads, the old textile techniques and the textile tools for weaving. Thanks to the treasured traditional culture of handiwork in Dalmatia, this is a part of heritage that remains preserved even today.
This paper analyses the manuscript map of central and parts of northern Dalmatia by an unknown author in the first decade of the 16th century. It is the oldest preserved detailed depiction of a ...Croatian region and is currently housed in the State Archives of Venice (Archivio di Stato di Venezia). The analysis of its geographic and toponymic data and the correlation of this data with archival sources show that its qualitative and quantitative content represents a significant advance in the visualisation of spatial reality. It is therefore a valuable cartographic record essential to historical-geographic research of Croatia and the Adriatic as the arena of centuries of military-political confrontation between the Venetian Republic, the Hungaro-Croatian Kingdom (under the Habsburg Dynasty from 1527) and the Ottoman Empire.
