The dynamic features of emotion-intensity, speed of response, rise time, persistence, recovery-are important to emotion development, but there remains limited understanding of early developmental ...changes in these dynamics and how they are organized. In this exploratory study, 58 White infants were observed at ages 6, 9, and 12 months in four social episodes designed to elicit positive emotion (two games with mother) and negative emotion (stranger approach and separation from mother). Continuous time-sampled ratings and summary assessments of facial and vocal responding yielded measures of onset intensity, peak intensity, onset latency, time to peak intensity, rise time, persistence, and recovery for each episode and expressive modality. Central findings indicated significant developmental increases in the intensity and speed of response for positive and negative episodes, but across age and expressive modality the organization of positive and negative responses differed consistently. Specifically, responses to negative emotion episodes reflected characteristics of a preemptory response to perceived threat (e.g., intensity positively correlated with persistence), while intense positive emotion involved quicker onset and longer rise time, consistent with establishing and maintaining social engagement. Implications of these findings and directions for further study are outlined.
It is generally considered socially undesirable to suppress the expression of positive emotion. However, previous research has not considered the role that social context plays in governing ...appropriate emotion regulation. We investigated a context in which it may be more appropriate to suppress than express positive emotion, hypothesizing that positive emotion expressions would be considered inappropriate when the valence of the expressed emotion (i.e., positive) did not match the valence of the context (i.e., negative). Six experiments (N = 1,621) supported this hypothesis: when there was a positive emotion-context mismatch, participants rated targets who suppressed positive emotion as more appropriate, and evaluated them more positively than targets who expressed positive emotion. This effect occurred even when participants were explicitly made aware that suppressing targets were experiencing mismatched emotion for the context (e.g., feeling positive in a negative context), suggesting that appropriate emotional expression is key to these effects. These studies are among the first to provide empirical evidence that social costs to suppression are not inevitable, but instead are dependent on context. Expressive suppression can be a socially useful emotion regulation strategy in situations that call for it.

Die Programmevaluation erfolgte summativ mit einer Prä- und Posterhebung sowie einem 3‑Monats-Follow-up in den Bereichen (1) emotional-soziale Schulerfahrungen und (2) Wissen sowie (3) prosoziales Verhalten. Die Datenauswertung erfolgte mittels Strukturgleichungsmodellen mit dem Ansatz der Latent-difference-score-Analyse.ErgebnisseDie Ergebnisse zeigen signifikante Trainingseffekte in der emotional-sozialen Schulerfahrung, eine Erweiterung des emotional-sozialen Wissens und eine positive Veränderung des prosozialen Verhaltens. Die Umsetzung der Inhalte im Schulalltag hat sich als essentiell erwiesen.
This study was based on the International Research Project called "Games and Emotions", developed by Lavega et al (2008). The study aims to identify, describe and interpret the emotional expression ...tendencies of individuals who participated in the "Capoeira Workout". The method used was quasi-experimental, and the Games and Emotions Scale (GES) was the instrument used to assess the emotions felt by the participants. The variables were emotions and gender, and a specific protocol was developed. The sample consisted of 10 men and 10 women, and the data related to the 2nd session of the Capoeira gymnastic workout was used, which is based on the inverse execution of the groups of movements applied in the 1st session. We conclude that men expressed higher values for all types of emotion, with positive emotions being the most significant, and joy, happiness and humor being the most relevant. The data expressed by the individuals, emphasises that actions of the psychomotor domain can influence the expression of the emotions of men and women. Activities with the characteristics of workout gimnic are relevant for the education of the emotions, for the improvement of the physical, social and also an alternative subject for the school environment, providing greater involvement and motivation for students in Physical Education classes.
Political action (volunteering, protesting) is central to functioning democracies, and action is often motivated by negative emotion. However, theories of emotion regulation suggest that people often ...strive to decrease such negative emotions. Thus, effective emotion regulation (e.g., reappraisal)-while helping people feel better-could have the unintended consequence of hindering political action. We tested this hypothesis in Clinton voters after the 2016 U.S. election (Ntotal = 1552). Studies 1a (conducted November 2016) and 1b (conducted November 2016, with a follow-up in January 2017) assessed individuals' recent use of reappraisal in managing emotions evoked by the election. Studies 2a and 2b (conducted March 2017) exposed individuals to Trump-focused news footage and assessed individuals' reappraisal during the clip and subsequent emotional responses. Studies 3a and 3b (conducted June 2017) experimentally manipulated reappraisal and measured subsequent emotional responses to Trump-focused news footage. Each study assessed recent or intended political action. In Studies 1a and 1b, we found that reappraisal predicted lower political action; in Studies 2a and 2b we observed an indirect effect such that reappraisal predicted lower negative emotion which in turn accounted for lower intentions to engage in political action; and Studies 3a and 3b provided experimental evidence for this indirect effect. These results suggest that effective emotion regulation like reappraisal may be beneficial in the short-run by helping restore emotional well-being after upsetting political events but may also be costly in the long-run by reducing the potential for productive political action.
Emotion in strategic management has attracted increasing scholarly interest during the past twenty-five years. Researchers have demonstrated the nature and significance of emotion in strategic ...management from a broad range of perspectives across different levels of analysis. Given the expanding research on the topic, the time is ripe to synthesize this diverse and multifaceted body of knowledge. In a thematic synthesis of the literature, we address the following questions: how does emotion influence strategic management, and how can the field be further developed? We review emotion constructs used in the extant literature and identify three themes related to how emotions influence strategic management: the nonconscious influence of emotions, emotion regulation, and collective emotions. Based on these themes and our analysis, we propose three areas of future research to inspire the field to develop further: (1) scope conditions of emotion research in strategic management; (2) capturing emotion in strategic management; and (3) the ethics, power and politics of emotions in strategic management.

Emotions are equivalent to “the spirit that moves us”. These can lead us to a better mobilization, no matter how logical and rational we are, even if we are on the wrong paths. Although it is ...frequently discussed about emotional intelligence, it has not yet reached its full strength. We still continue to focus on education, self-improvement, intelligence, experience and we still think that the intellect is separate from emotions, even superior to them. Things would be different if we understand that intellect and emotions are not mutually exclusive, but have a similar importance and impact in our lives. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the reasons why emotional intelligence is decisive in professional success, but also in personal life.
