The article presents an approach to data anonymization with the use of generally available tools. The focus is put on the practical aspects of using open-source tools in conjunction with programming ...libraries provided by suppliers of industrial control systems. This universal approach shows the possibilities of using various operating systems as a platform for process data anonymization. An additional advantage of the described approach is the ease of integration with various types of advanced data analysis tools based both on the out-of-the-box approach (e.g., business intelligence tools) as well as customized solutions. The discussed case describes the anonymization of data for the needs of sensitive analysis by a wider group of recipients during the construction of a predictive model used to support decisions.

In this paper, a new configuration of operational amplifier -based square-wave oscillator is proposed. The circuit performs an impedance-to-period (Z–T) conversion that, instead of a voltage ...integration typically performed by other solutions presented in the literature, is based on a voltage differentiation. This solution is suitable as first analogue uncalibrated front-end for capacitive and resistive (e.g. relative humidity and gas) sensors, working also, in the case of capacitive devices, for wide variation ranges (up to six capacitive variation decades). Moreover, through the setting of passive components, its sensitivity can be easily regulated. Experimental measurements, conducted on a prototype printed circuit board, with sample passive components and using the commercial capacitive humidity sensor Honeywell HCH-1000, have shown good linearity and accuracy in the estimation of capacitances, having a baseline or reaching a value ranging in a wide interval picofarads–microfarads, as well as, with a lower accuracy, in the evaluation of more reduced variations of resistances, ranging from kiloohms to megaohms, also when compared with other solutions presented in the literature.

Martha Ann Honeywell (1786-1856) was a visual artist and performer who traveled across North America and Europe to exhibit her embroidery, waxwork, miniature writing, and paper cutting as well as her ...atypically-figured body, which lacked arms and hands and had just one foot with three toes. Drawing on over two hundred newspaper advertisements that she published, over one hundred samples of her visual artwork, nearly thirty visitor responses, and one surviving letter, this essay examines Honeywell's story and the strategies that she used to appeal to consumers and cultivate her business. It argues that she capitalized on new cultural and commercial opportunities in the early republic as well as long-held conceptions of disability in productive ways. Honeywell was a relentless traveler, seeking new markets internationally and in the American West. She also catered to her patrons' desires for miniatures and silhouettes, which held popular appeal, and utilized advancements in print culture to generate publicity. At the same time, Honeywell's techniques for attracting clientele were informed by ideas about disability, and congenital physical anomalies in particular, with deep roots in western culture. To accommodate her spectators' curiosities about her body, she juxtaposed her artistic capacities and physical incapacities in ways that elicited shock and amazement. In addition, to ease visitors' fears about disability and anxieties about viewing her impairments, she presented familiar and socially acceptable traits that aligned with their expectations of the body, gender, and class. In the end, Honeywell's mastery of these dual strategies of the spectacular and the conventional -- along with the possibilities that the early national marketplace presented -- produced what may seem like an unexpected outcome. Rather than condemning, fearing, or deriding her uniqueness, customers proclaimed her to be uniquely American, an exemplary woman and citizen.

IBM's System/360 family of mainframe computers has been rightly considered as one of the most ambitious product developments of all time. However, what of the responses to it? This paper looks at two ...companies which directly targeted IBM's customer base. One, Honeywell, chose to target customers of IBM's older technology offering backwardly compatible, updated systems, exploiting IBM's move to a new technology. RCA, ostensibly one of the technically capable electronics companies of the era, tackled IBM head-on by producing a series of systems compatible with IBM's latest generation equipment - a strategy of forward compatibility. The cases on Honeywell and RCA focus not only on their product strategy but also on the timing of their investments. Specifically it highlights that, while the concentrically diversified nature of RCA provided it with the ability to develop computers, RCA's investment decisions were based on internal resource allocation logic, not a market-driven logic.
The paper argues that—in contrast to the decision of the European Commission in 2001 and the ruling of the Court of First Instance in 2005—the merger between General Electric and Honeywell ...International would not have led to anti-competitive horizontal effects. Applying the European Community Merger Regulation valid at the time of decision and empirical evidence available in 2001, the relevant markets are defined taking into account demand-side substitutability and supply-side substitutability. The worldwide bidding markets for large regional jet aircraft engines, corporate jet aircraft engines and small marine gas turbines are characterised by potentially volatile market shares, high importance of after-sales revenue and profitable outside options. According to the two-level approach of the European Commission, the analysis considers firstly the competitive situation of the engine manufacturer in relation to its direct customer, the aircraft or marine vessel manufacturer, and secondly the competitive effects in the respective market of end-use applications. The paper shows that GE was not in the position to exert market power prior to the merger and would not have been ex post.
This paper analyses the reasons for the severe EU-US disagreement over the proposed merger of two US firms, General Electric and Honeywell, which would have been the largest industrial merger in ...history. The case, one of the relatively rare instances where the European Commission prohibited a merger, is interesting because the EU and US authorities took opposing decisions even though the merger affected world markets. The paper argues that the Commission's investigation of this complex case was undermined by its relative autonomy, combined with procedures,
processes and a lack of resources that left it vulnerable to inadequate analysis. The deal broke down not because of failures in communication between US and EU officials, but rather because of the limited and flawed assessment by Brussels which the EU system allowed.
A biography of Charles W. Bachman, Turing Award winner and a primary inventor of the database management system through his early 1960s work on the Integrated Data Store (IDS). He worked for Dow ...Chemical, Generarl Electric, Honeywell and Cullinae Database Systems as well as founding Bachman Information Systems. Bachman played an important role in user groups and standards bodies-including IBM Share, the CODASYL Data Base Task Group (DBTG), the Systems Planning and Resources Committee (SPARC) steering committee within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) subcommittee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
