Java Native Interface (JNI) allows Java applications to access native libraries, but it is challenging to develop correct JNI programs. By leveraging native code, the JNI enables Java developers to ...implement efficient applications and reuse code written in other programming languages such as C and C++. The core Java libraries use the JNI to provide system features like graphical user interfaces, and mainstream Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) support the JNI. However, implementing correct JNI programs is not trivial due to the complex interoperation semantics between different programming languages. While JVMs do not validate JNI interoperations by default because of the performance overhead, they provide two methods. First, JVMs report the interoperation failures defined in the JNI specification at runtime. Second, they support a debug option, which validates JNI interoperations, degrading the runtime performance. To the best of our knowledge, literature has not thoroughly studied the quality of JVMs' methods, even though erroneous JNI interoperations may result in incorrect behaviors. In this paper, we empirically study the behaviors of JVMs on erroneous JNI interoperations. For a systematic study, we propose JUSTGen , a semi-automatic tool that generates JNI test programs incurring erroneous interoperations from the JNI specification. JUSTGen receives the JNI specification written in our domain-specific language (DSL) and automatically discovers cases that may lead to runtime errors on interoperations using an SMT solver. It then generates test programs that trigger the behaviors on the erroneous cases. Using the generated tests, we empirically evaluate JVM's failure handling mechanisms and the debug option capabilities on erroneous JNI interoperations. Our experiment results show that there exist erroneous cases in which JVMs do not handle failures or handle them differently from the specification. We also found that the JNI debug option does not validate thousands of erroneous cases, which can cause critical runtime errors such as memory corruption and violation of the Java type system. We reported 18 erroneous cases of which JVMs do not handle failures correctly to their respective vendors. Among them, 16 cases have been resolved.
Despite its dominating role for developing large-scale enterprise applications, Java Enterprise Edition (EE) has always been seen critically by many developers, in particular from the web and open ...source communities. In recent years, the discussion about its decline and replacement e.g. by scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript has therefore gained momentum. On the other hand, Java EE has evolved towards being more flexible, lightweight and simpler to use and offers unique features still not available out-of-the-box on other platforms, such as support for distributed transactions. Therefore, in this paper an approach is presented, how a Java EE-based application supporting elderly people could be designed to make use of a modern NoSQL database (namely MongoDB), while preserving its unique features. The presented approach demonstrates not only the feasibility of such an architecture, but also supports the claim that Java EE still is a highly relevant and powerful platform for building modern applications.
Web development technology has undergone tremendous evolution, the creation of JavaScript has greatly enriched the interactive capabilities of the client. However, attackers use the dynamics feature ...of JavaScript language to embed malicious code into web pages for the purpose of drive-by-download, redirection, etc. The traditional method based on static feature detection is difficult to detect the malicious code after obfuscation, and the method based on dynamic analysis has low efficiency. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a static detection model based on semantic analysis. The model firstly generates an abstract syntax tree from JavaScript source codes, then automatically converts them to syntactic unit sequences. FastText algorithm is introduced to training word vectors. The syntactic unit sequences are represented as word vectors which will be input into Bi-LSTM network with attention mechanism. The detection model with Bi-LSTM network with attention mechanism is the key to detect malicious JavaScript. We experimented with the dataset using a five-fold cross-validation method. Experiments showed that the model can effectively detect obfuscated malicious JavaScript code and improve the detection speed, with a precision of 0.977 and recall of 0.974.
Our understanding of seismic risk in Java has been focused primarily on the subduction zone, where the seismic records during the last century have shown the occurrence of a number of tsunami ...earthquakes. However, the potential of the existence of active crustal structures within the island of Java itself is less well known. Historical archives show the occurrence of several devastating earthquake ruptures north of the volcanic arc in west Java during the 18th and the 19th centuries, suggesting the existence of active faults that need to be identified in order to guide seismic hazard assessment. Here we use geodetic constraints from the Global Positioning System (GPS) to quantify the present day crustal deformation in Java. The GPS velocities reveal a homogeneous counterclockwise rotation of the Java Block independent of Sunda Block, consistent with a NE–SW convergence between the Australian Plate and southeast Asia. Continuous GPS observations show a time-dependent change in the linear rate of surface motion in west Java, which we interpret as an ongoing long-term post-seismic deformation following the 2006 Mw 7.7 Java earthquake. We use an elastic block model in combination with a viscoelastic model to correct for this post-seismic transient and derive the long-term inter-seismic velocity, which we interpret as a combination of tectonic block motions and crustal faults strain related deformation. There is a north–south gradient in the resulting velocity field with a decrease in the magnitude towards the North across the Kendeng Thrust in the east and the Baribis Thrust in the west. We suggest that the Baribis Thrust is active and accommodating a slow relative motion between Java and the Sunda Block at about 5±0.2 mm/yr. We propose a kinematic model of convergence of the Australian Plate and the Sunda Block, involving a slip partitioning between the Java Trench and a left-lateral structure extending E–W along Java with most of the convergence being accommodated by the Java megathrust, and a much smaller parallel motion accommodated along the Baribis (∼5±0.2 mm/yr) and Kendeng (∼2.3±0.7 mm/yr) Thrusts. Our study highlights a correlation between the geodetically inferred active faults and historical seismic catalogs, emphasizing the importance of considering crustal fault activity within Java in future seismic assessments.

This study explores the relationship between the number of local parliamentarians, local government budget expenditures, Java/non-Java jurisdiction, liabilities, and Local Own-source revenue and ...financial statement disclosure. It relies on multiple theoretical frameworks and uses a sample of 180 local government financial reports in Indonesia for 2021 that have been audited by the Indonesian National Audit Board. Using the SPSS Version 25 program, multiple regression analysis was used in this study to assess hypotheses. The results found that Java/non-Java jurisdiction (β = 0.259; p < 0.05) and Local Own-source revenue (β = 0.321; p < 0.05) affect the disclosure of financial statements. In addition, the number of local parliamentarians (β = 0.071; p > 0.05), local government budget expenditure (β = 0.038; p > 0.05), and liability (β = 0.005; p > 0.05) does not affect the disclosure of financial statements. The contribution to local government is to analyze potential aspects related to the government’s increased pressure to make financial statement disclosure. The use of information technology to meet social demands more effectively and efficiently is one option for regional governments to disclose their financial statements.

Source code summarization is the task of creating readable summaries that describe the functionality of software. Source code summarization is a critical component of documentation generation, for ...example as Javadocs formed from short paragraphs attached to each method in a Java program. At present, a majority of source code summarization is manual, in that the paragraphs are written by human experts. However, new automated technologies are becoming feasible. These automated techniques have been shown to be effective in select situations, though a key weakness is that they do not explain the source code's context. That is, they can describe the behavior of a Java method, but not why the method exists or what role it plays in the software. In this paper, we propose a source code summarization technique that writes English descriptions of Java methods by analyzing how those methods are invoked. We then performed two user studies to evaluate our approach. First, we compared our generated summaries to summaries written manually by experts. Then, we compared our summaries to summaries written by a state-of-the-art automatic summarization tool. We found that while our approach does not reach the quality of human-written summaries, we do improve over the state-of-the-art summarization tool in several dimensions by a statistically-significant margin.
