Reading the Qur’an in the Twenty-First Century considers the development of Qur’anic interpretation and highlights modern debates around new approaches to interpretation. It explores how Muslims from ...various theological, legal, socio-political and philosophical backgrounds think about the meaning and relevance of the Qur’an, and how their ideas apply in the contemporary world. The book: reflects on one of the most dominant approaches to interpretation in the pre-modern period, textualism, and the reaction to that in Muslim feminist readings of the Qur’an today covers issues such as identifying the hierarchical nature of Qur’anic values, the criteria for the use of hadith in interpretation, fluidity of meaning and ways of ensuring a degree of stability in interpretation examines key Qur'anic passages and compares pre-modern and modern interpretations to show the evolving nature of interpretation. Fringe political actors' Qur'an desecrations in Scandinavia have over the past few years resulted in international media attention, diplomatic crises, calls for boycotts and pressures from Muslim ...states and organisations to criminalize such acts. This article explores the historical genealogies of Qur'an desecration - a transnational phenomenon - that emerged in the wake of the post-9/11 'Global War on Terror'. In Norway, public Qur'an burnings have been integral to the strategies of the far-right organization Stop the Islamisation of Norway (SIAN) since 2019. Inspired by Titley's notion of far-right "free speech capture", we demonstrate that Qur'an burning functions as a powerful symbolic means to incite hatred against Islam and Muslims in the name of "free speech". We contend that Qur'an burning in the Norwegian context lies at the intersection between transnational and national flows and modalities of Islamophobia.
The research aims to analyze the principles of implementing education according to the Al-Qur’an. The Al-Qur’an is a source of guidance for Muslims in carrying out their lives, including conducting ...education. The principles of implementing education are contained in the Al-Qur’an which can be used as a guide for stakeholders and teachers in carrying out their duties. Developing principles for implementing education based on Islamic education philosophy in the Al-Qur’an will produce comprehensive guidance for believers. The research method used in this brief study was a content analysis of the Al-Qur’an to determine the philosophy of educational principles based on the Al-Qur’an. Systematic linguistic analysis in the original Al-Qur’an text and the translation of the Al-Qur’an in English to reveal the principles of educational implementation was carried out. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that there are several principles for implementing education contained in the Al-Qur’an. The first component of the educational principle is reasoning which is promoted in the Al-Qur’an, namely inferential, independent reasoning and facilitated reasoning. The second principle of implementing education is that implementing education is oriented towards developing moral character through various learning process activities or what is called orthopractic theology. The contribution of this research is the discovery of a strong principled basis for implementing education and becoming the basis for hermeneutical research to investigate the philosophy of implementing education based on the Al-Qur’an that can be applied in real life situations. This research has implications for the practice of implementing education in Indonesia. Teachers must pay attention to the learning methods used that can likely optimize students' reasoning abilities and must accommodate methods of remembering, listening and reading literacy activities.

The article overviewed the Qur’anic textual authority in practices and the concept of living in Qur’anic behaviours for Monotheism and Sufism, a council of study in Aceh province. As it is known for ...a board of study existence, Majelis Pengkajian Tauhid Tasawuf Indonesia (MPTTI) is growing more controversial regarding religious harmony in Islamic group society and its particular Sufism teaching. Nevertheless, despite these controversial phenomena, the council retains its teaching principles. The board exclusively refers to its teaching on Qur’an scriptures and verses as countermeasures of marginality and oppression. The committee believed in the authority of Sufism teaching, which was baselined on the Qur’an. The article projected how the council employs the scripture to formulate Sufism with a phenomenology approach to the engagement of living hadith in practice. Later, the board exploits the scripture as the source to establish critique for disavowing acceptance behaviours in society. The council intends to restore the communal into the proper stream of Islamic tradition. Parallel to these intriguing findings, the commission proclaims the Al Qur’an as an appropriate establishment of primary character reference. Eventually, the fascinating texts employed by the council also drive to strengthen the validity of council identity on national and even international coverage, which overlaps other boards in the region.
Through extensive textual analysis, this open access book reveals how various passages of the Qur’an define death and resurrection spiritually or metaphorically. While the Day of Resurrection is a ...major theme of the Qur’an, resurrection has largely been interpreted as physical, which is defined as bones leaving their graves. However, this book shows that the Qur’an sometimes alludes to death and resurrection in a metaphoric manner – for example, rebuilding a desolate town, typically identified as Jerusalem, and bringing the Israelite exiles back; thus, suggesting awareness and engagement with Jewish liturgy. Many times, the Qur’an even speaks of non-believers as spiritually dead, those who live in this world, but are otherwise zombies. The author presents an innovative theory of interpretation, contextualizing the Qur’an within Late Antiquity and traces the Qur’anic passages back to their Biblical, extra-biblical and rabbinic subtexts and traditions.
