Taking as its point of departure two video projects created by Polish theatre artists at the time of the COVID-19 crisis and presented on YouTube, my article intends to revisit the concept of digital ...liveness, presented by Philip Auslander in 2012. Both projects explicitly take up an important issue of liveness as supposedly characteristic of theatre performances as such. Referring also to such recent performance-installations as Rimini Protokoll’s Situation Rooms and Nachlass/Pièces sans personnes, as well as Mapa Teatro’s Of Lunatics, or Those Lacking Sanity, the article claims that the COVID-19 crisis has not so much jeopardized the ontology of theatre as a communal form of art but rather put in question the notion of co-presence of performers and their audience “here and now” as the core of this art.

Temperatures are rising in most temperate and polar environments, and a well-documented effect of this change is a poleward range shift by a wide variety of terrestrial and aquatic species. In the ...northern Gulf of Mexico (GOM), an increasing number of tropical species have recently become established among the extant warm-temperate fauna. These include a diversity of tropical fishes, manatees, green turtles, warm-water corals, and black mangroves. The impact of these species may be profound, primarily because temperate species are restricted from shifting northward by the North American land mass. Thus, as tropical species expand northward in the GOM, they must interact with the extant species and potentially compete for essential resources or become prey for each other. Here we focus on tropical immigrants capable of transforming the vast and highly productive seagrass systems of the northern GOM, emphasizing herbivorous parrotfishes and comparing their impact with endemic seagrass-resident fishes. Increased numbers of these herbivores (plus green turtles and manatees) would likely shift detritus-based food webs in seagrass meadows to webs dominated by direct consumption of seagrasses. We provide estimates of some expected consumption rates and effects of these tropically associated seagrass herbivores and predict that the consequences of the increased tropicalization of northern GOM seagrass meadows will be: substantially reduced standing crops and structural complexity of seagrass meadows; increased energy flux through grazing food webs; and a greatly reduced nursery role that will result in much smaller adult populations of those finfish and shellfish species that rely on seagrasses as nurseries.

The last in the series of seven Letters to the Churches of Asia Minor (Revelation 2-3) is the letter to the Church in Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22). It is peculiar in many ways. It marks the end of the first part of the Book of Revelation and serves as the bridge between its first and second part. It is important to notice that this is the only letter completely void of Christ’s praise for good deeds. Rightly or wrongly, it is widely considered to be the harshest of all the seven Letters to the Churches in Asia Minor. To fathom the contents of the Letter to the Church in Laodicea, this paper combines synchronic and diachronic approaches – i.e. several exegetical methods. It seeks to answer some of the fundamental questions arising out of the Letter, such as these given below. What are the (mis)deeds of the Laodicean Christians that only invite Christ’s rebukes (going so far as to say that he will spit them out of his mouth)? What kind of degradation has the Church in Laodicea sunk to that warrant only reproach? Is there any hope for earnestness and repentance in the Laodicean Christian community because Christ admonishes them the most out of all the Churches of Asia Minor? What are the similarities between the Church in Laodicea and the modern Church – i.e. today’s Christians?
To investigate the effects and possible mechanism of prevention and treatment of digestive tract reactions to postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer (PC) using terra flava usta.
A ...total of 75 PC patients with postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy who were admitted to our hospital from July 2016 to August 2019 were selected and randomly divided into a control group (CG) (n=37) and an observation group (OG) (n=38). Thirty min before chemotherapy, the CG received 8 mg of ondansetron via an intravenous drip, while the OG received 8 mg of ondansetron via an intravenous drip and terra flava usta. The grades of acute nausea and vomiting and delayed nausea and vomiting were compared between the two groups. The levels of gastrin (GAS), motilin (MTL), vasoactive peptide (VIP), hemoglobin (Hb), prealbumin (PA), and albumin (ALB), the proportion of CD4
, CD8
and NK cells in T cell subsets, and the levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and substance P (SP) were compared between the two groups.
The grades of delayed nausea and vomiting in the OG were superior to those in the CG (
< 0.05). The OG had higher levels of GAS and MTL and lower level of VIP than the CG after chemotherapy (
< 0.05). After chemotherapy, the levels of Hb, PA and ALB in the OG were higher than those in the CG (
< 0.05). After chemotherapy, the proportion of CD4
and NK cells in the OG were higher than those in the CG, while the proportion of CD8
in the OG was lower than that in the CG (
< 0.05). The serum 5-HT level in the acute phase and the delayed phase was higher than that before chemotherapy (
< 0.05), and the serum 5-HT level in the delayed phase was lower than that in the acute phase (
< 0.05). There was no significant difference in serum 5-HT level between the two groups in the acute phase and the delayed phase (
> 0.05). Compared with that before chemotherapy, SP levels in the OG decreased in the acute phase and the delayed phase, while SP levels in the CG did not change significantly, and SP levels in the OG were lower than those in the CG (
< 0.05).
Terra flava usta can effectively prevent and treat digestive tract reactions (e.g., delayed nausea and vomiting) induced by postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for PC and protect gastrointestinal function, nutritional status and immune functions of PC patients. The mechanism of prevention and treatment of delayed digestive tract reactions after chemotherapy with terra flava usta may be related to the regulation of SP content. Therefore, terra flava usta is worthy of promotion and implementation.
Competitive tennis play requires a combination of the major physiological variables; however, the specifics of these variables have yet to be determined appropriately. General strength and ...flexibility training have been suggested as being beneficial for performance and injury prevention, yet specific guidelines are lacking. This paper provides a review of specific studies that relate to competitive tennis, and highlights the need for tennis-specific training as opposed to generalised physical training. It identifies specific studies that support the premise that tennis has physiological requirements which need to be understood when designing training and research programmes.
In the present study a comparison of the otolith morphology of two species of parrotfish, family Scaridae, collected from the Red Sea coast of Egypt, is conducted to identify the most appropriate ...taxonomic characters that separate these species. Ontogenetic changes in the otoliths of the two scarid fishes become evident. In the otoliths of Chlorurus sordidus, the following characters are comparable in small-sized adult fishes: otolith width, otolith depth, mesial surface shape, lateral surface shape, shape of sulcus acusticus, column, rostrum and size of rostrum. The otoliths of young adults (GI) C. sordidus differ from the adult ones in 14 out of the 22 characteristics studied. In the otoliths of Hipposcarus harid, the following characters are comparable in small and large fish: otolith width, otolith depth, mesial and lateral surface shapes, shape of sulcus acusticus, rostrum and size of rostrum.
Gymnosperms are among the most endangered groups of plant species; they include ginkgo, pines (Conifers I), cupressophytes (Conifers II), cycads, and gnetophytes. The relationships among the five ...extant gymnosperm groups remain equivocal. We analyzed 167 available gymnosperm plastomes and investigated their diversity and phylogeny. We found that plastome size, structure, and gene order were highly variable in the five gymnosperm groups, of which Parasitaxus usta (Vieill.) de Laub. and Macrozamia mountperriensis F.M.Bailey had the smallest and largest plastomes, respectively. The inverted repeats (IRs) of the five groups were shown to have evolved through distinctive evolutionary scenarios. The IRs have been lost in all conifers but retained in cycads and gnetophytes. A positive association between simple sequence repeat (SSR) abundance and plastome size was observed, and the SSRs with the most variation were found in Pinaceae. Furthermore, the number of repeats was negatively correlated with IR length; thus, the highest number of repeats was detected in Conifers I and II, in which the IRs had been lost. We constructed a phylogeny based on 29 shared genes from 167 plastomes. With the plastome tree and 13 calibrations, we estimated the tree height between present‐day angiosperms and gymnosperms to be ∼380 million years ago (mya). The placement of Gnetales in the tree agreed with the Gnetales–other gymnosperms hypothesis. The divergence between Ginkgo and cycads was estimated as ∼284 mya; the crown age of the cycads was 251 mya. Our time‐calibrated plastid‐based phylogenomic tree provides a framework for comparative studies of gymnosperm evolution.

Parasitaxus usta (Podocarpaceae) is the only parasitic gymnosperm and endemic to New Caledonia. In this survey, 11 flavonoids and 6 phenolic compounds were isolated from the aerial parts. As for ...flavonoids, six flavones, apigenin 7-O-glucoside (1), luteolin (2), luteolin 7-O-glucoside (3), chrysoeriol (4), chrysoeriol 7-O-glucoside (5) and tricetin 3′-O-glucoside (6), one C-glycosylflavone, orientin (7), one flavonol, quercetin 3-O-glucoside (8), one anthocyanin, cyanidin 3-O-glucoside (9), and two biflavones, isoginkgetin (10) and agathisflavone (11) were identified by UV, liquid chromatograph–mass spectra (LC-MS), acid hydrolysis, NMR and/or HPLC comparisons with authentic samples. On the other hand, six phenolic compounds were identified as 5-O-E-p-coumaroyl quinic acid (12), 5-O-Z-p-coumaroyl quinic acid (13), 5-O-E-p-coumaroyl quinic acid methyl ester (14), 5-O-Z-p-coumaroyl quinic acid methyl ester (15), E-caffeic acid methyl ester 3-O-β-glucopyranoside (16), and Z-caffeic acid methyl ester 3-O-β-glucopyranoside (17) by UV, LC-MS and NMR. Chemical components of P usta were reported in this survey for the first time. Their chemical characters were chemotaxonomically compared with those of other Podocarpaceae species.
