The implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) during a pandemic was implemented to control the spread of COVID-19. The effectiveness of this government regulation needs to be balanced with massive press coverage to provide education and mitigation to the public regarding the restrictions on the rule. This study aims to find out how the role of the press in distributing policy information on PPKM on Twitter. The research method used in this research was Social Network Analysis (SNA) with the Twitter Streaming Developer plug-in to perform text mining related to PPKM rules. The results showed that the role of the press in the PPKM social network on Twitter was as a disseminator of information. This was shown from the centrality values obtained, namely degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and eigenvector centrality. The press actor with the highest popularity value on the PPKM social network was @ detikom followed by @cnnindonesia, @asumsico, @nuicemedia, and @kumparan. The relationship pattern was an asymmetric wheel that was very effective for information dissemination. This study found that the press, in disseminating information, is advised to be more concerned about finding the point of view and titles given on social media because the number of followers does not affect the dissemination of information on Twitter.
Abstract
Business schools, and universities providing business education, from across the globe have increasingly engaged in responsible management education (RME), that is in embedding social, ...environmental and ethical topics in their teaching and research. However, we still do not fully understand the institutional pressures that have led to the adoption of RME, in particular concerning under‐researched regions like Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Hence, we undertook what is to our knowledge the most comprehensive study into the adoption of RME in CEE to date (including 13 countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and Ukraine). We find that, with regard to RME, isomorphic pressures seem to shape teaching and research in different ways, which suggests that the idea of a holistic approach to RME, promoted by, for example, the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), needs to be revisited; rather, different trajectories of organizational engagement may emerge for each principle. As a contribution to institutional theory, we discuss how a highly fragmented organizational field—like RME with its multiple dimensions—impacts on notions of actor centrality, where actors achieve centrality with regard to some dimensions of the field but fail to do so for others. In particular, we found that the European Union holds centrality in the area of RME teaching, but not in RME research. Our findings thus suggest that the concept of field centrality needs further clarification.
► Investigate patterns of changing communications structure associated with organizational crisis using communications dataset. ► Observe that reciprocity within the organisational communication ...network increases during crisis period. ► Organizational communication network becomes less transitive as organizations experience crisis. ► Number of cliques increases in a communication network as organizations are going through crisis. ► Communication network becomes increasingly centralised as organizations go through crisis.
Communication network is a personal or professional set of relationships between individuals or organizations. In other words, it is a pattern of contacts which are created due to the flow of information among the participating actors. The flow of information establishes various types of relationships among the participating entities. These relationships eventually form an overall pattern that could form a gestalt of the total structure within organizational context. In this paper, we analyze the changing communications structure in order to investigate the patterns associated with the final stages of organizational crisis. Organizational crisis has been defined as organizational mortality, organizational death, organizational exit, bankruptcy, decline, retrenchment and failure to characterize various forms of organizational crisis. We draw on theoretical perspectives on organizational crisis proposed by social network analysts and other sociologists to test 5 key propositions on the changes in the network communication structure associated with organizational crisis: (1) a few actors, who are prominent or more active, will become central during the organizational crisis period; (2) reciprocity within the organizational communication network will increase during crisis period; (3) organizational communication network becomes less transitive as organizations experience crisis; (4) number of cliques increases in a communication network as organizations are going through crisis; and (5) communication network becomes increasingly centralized as organizations go through crisis.
In a well-known paper Social Networks 1 (1979) 215 Linton Freeman clarified the importance of the centrality concept in network analysis. There are a variety of centrality measures available, and ...they are mainly used as descriptive statistics in various network studies. For instance, actor centrality measured by vertex degree captures those aspects of centrality that have an impact on contacts given or received by the actor. The approach taken here is to consider actor centrality as a latent property that manifests itself in generating a particular network structure, and in order to measure centrality we are bound to rely on observable features of this network. By borrowing ideas from recent link-tracing survey methodology, we illustrate how probabilistic network models with centrality parameters can be used to improve on estimators and predictors of various actor attributes related to centrality.
