Utopian futurism is not often discussed as a motivating factor behind social science research, and in this article Colombian linguist Felix Manuel Burgos and US anthropologist Les W. Field take up ...that motivation in re‐assessing one period in the history of Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC). Founded in 1964 and impelled by events that exploded in 1948, FARC's history offers a window into a movement marked by a deeply dystopian trauma at its very start. In this article, with their utopian imaginations to one side, Burgos and Field dialogically consider the period of the Zona de Despeje (the demilitarized zone FARC dominated from 1998 to 2002), animated by the memory narratives of Félix Manuel Burgos who lived in that zone as a primary school‐teacher during those years. Through their dialogue, they consider the idea of “anti‐utopia” as potentially descriptive of the ZDD, specifically, as well as the FARC's overall historical character.

En este artículo el lingüista colombiano Félix Burgos y el antropólogo estadounidense Les W. Field retoman el futurismo utópico al reevaluar un período de la historia de Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC). Fundadas en 1964 e impulsadas por los acontecimientos que estallaron en 1948, la historia de las FARC ofrece una ventana a un movimiento marcado por un trauma profundamente distópico desde sus inicios. En este artículo, dejando a un lado su imaginación utópica, Burgos y Field consideran dialógicamente el período de la Zona de Despeje (la zona desmilitarizada dominada por las FARC entre 1998 y 2002), animados por las narrativas de la memoria de Félix Burgos que vivió en esa zona como maestro de escuela primaria durante esos años. A través de su diálogo, consideran que la idea de “antiutopía” es potencialmente descriptiva de la ZDD, así como del carácter histórico general de las FARC.

Wydana w 1963 roku powieść Marlen Haushofer Ściana przyniosła autorce duży rozgłos i zyskała uznanie czytelników i krytyków nie tylko w krajach niemieckojęzycznych. Bohaterka, na skutek ...niezrozumiałego i niepojętego zrządzenia losu, zostaje odcięta od świata zewnętrznego przez niewidzialną przeszkodę – ścianę. Za ścianą życie ludzi i zwierząt zamiera w sensie dosłownym. Jedyną ocalałą z katastrofy jest bohaterka. Od tej pory kobieta musi żyć w całkowitym odosobnieniu, zdana wyłącznie na siebie. Jedynymi jej towarzyszami jest kilka zwierząt, które nadają sens jej egzystencji. Poczucie odpowiedzialności za żywe stworzenia, troska o nie, a także całkowita izolacja oraz poczucie beznadziei determinują codzienność bohaterki. Samotność jednostki w obliczu katastrofy i strach przed nieznanym to tematyka powieści, która dzisiaj wydaje się być szczególnie aktualna.
Abstract
In the twenty-first century Latin America has become the most urbanized region on the planet and, at the same time, the one that has the highest level of inequality. This article discusses ...how this tension is expressed in cinema, an eminently urban art, through two case studies: the Mexican Nuevo orden (dir. by Michel Franco, 2020) and the Brazilian film Era uma vez Brasília (dir. by Adirley Queirós, 2017). Both works are independent films that deal with issues of urban violence and authoritarianism through a distinct style that combines the techniques of realist representation with fictional elements borrowed from dystopian and science fiction genres. While the two show a preoccupation with the economic and racialized inequality that characterizes urban space in the capital cities of Mexico and Brazil, they ultimately evoke two modes of utopian discourse. Whereas the first film can be considered anti-utopian, criticizing the impulse to seek social change, the second one, though pessimistic, retains a utopian call for political action.
Les personnages de Michel Houellebecq et Jean-Philippe Toussaint finissent, dans leur grande majorité, par s’extraire d’un monde social et géographique dont ils peinent à supporter les règles et les ...limites. Dans ce contexte désenchanté, le retrait vers des îles se présente comme une solution légitime. Si elles apparaissent dans un premier temps comme des alternatives aux affres de la métropole, Lanzarote et l’île d’Elbe représentent moins des utopies décrivant des sociétés idéales que des non-lieux relégués à une acceptation étymologique du terme : le lieu de nulle part ou qui n’est en aucun lieu. Les deux auteurs ne cessent ainsi de jouer avec les codes de l’utopie insulaire, en les déchargeant de l’histoire et des références littéraires qui lui sont habituellement associées. L’article se propose d’analyser les effets et les manifestations des anti-utopies insulaires de Houellebecq et Toussaint, dans un monde dont on a mesuré les limites et la finitude des ressources.

The investigation analyses the linguistic means the author ...uses to create a satirical image of Post-Soviet Russia, taking into account the Russian anti-utopian tradition and linguo-stylistic patterns of Post-Modernist new-wave prose. The article investigates the artistic apprehension of the current existence of the language. The author identifies the socially dangerous diseases of language and culture, noting the destruction of national identity: replacement of book culture by a visual one, expansion of “alien” elements into culture, depressive condition of moral culture, marginalization of the mentally specific layers of lexis and phraseology, language bureaucratization, and pragmatic language politics, texts algorithmization, orthographic paralysis, graphic eclecticism, crisis of the creative language personality, degradation of the language of poetry.
